into the FLARE

To be quite honest, I never thought I would see this happen any time soon. We all know it is just a matter of time until runway trends filter down to celebrity closets. Regardless of this, I could never imagine flare pants would do so this hastily. Some of the most iconic celebrities of the moment have not been able to resist wearing them. Have a look.

Hilary Duff's style has been changing a lot for the last couple of years. She has gone from girly to gipsy to chic independent woman. It's the latter that has provided what I would say is the top "flared look" so far. A black tank top tucked in plus a wide square-buckled belt. An intelligent choice for the very fit body.
Spotted yesterday, Lauren Conrad also in flared trousers. It follows Duff's vision, only this time the top is a bit baggy and white. I am glad Lauren is trying new things and reserving her enviously-massive short dress wardrobe for best-suited occasions. That very long hair adds a bit of a hippy touch to the overall look and a Chanel bag is always a good pick.
Another celeb wearing this trend a lot lately is Vicky Becks. Since her dVb line came out we have seen her several times in this light-blue denim flares. She, too, pulls them off remarkably due to that über-slim body of hers and to her obsession for tight tops. I find those white paint stains all over the denim very cool.

How could she possibly not appear in any post? Ashley Olsen is the Queen of fashion. Contrary to all the rest, Ashley started wearing flares months ago, before Lauren or Nicole even could consider getting a pair. Her trousers were wider from higher up the leg and she combined them with leather peep-toes and black leather biker jacker and an Hermès Birkin bag.
Of course, queen of hippy Nicole Richie could not escape this post either. Ever since Miss Rachel Zoe came her way, and even after leaving her, Nicole has not been the same. She is now a modern chic woman. Sleeve-less white top plus standard denim flares equals effortlessly stylish.
Last, someone I never though I would write about outside a list of disastrous clothing choices. Beyoncé Knowles looked quite good in those very wide kakis paired up with Chanel accessorizing. The whole ensemble is rather flattering on her, which also strikes me as a surprise. I suppose her mum (and stylist) can get it right every once in a while, right?

Tough as it was, I found some flare pants I could even say I like. It is not like they provoke utter disgust in me, but I strongly believe they only suit very few fortunate female bodies. I chose two denim ones from Top Shop, probably one of the best —if not the best— highstreet shops to get flares. The other one, a kaki option from Chloé. This, a chicer version, is quite like Beyoncé's and my personal favourite.

What will you do —join the craze or stick to skinny?

I still like the flare over the skinny skinny jeans. But then I like to think of Ashton K. in flares on That 70's show.

I don't want to give up my skinny jeans yet. I think this looks lovely on Ashley (because almost everything does) and I like them on Nicole as the flare isn't too overpowering and the rest of the jean is slim.

I'm not sure what I think of flared denim pants. I prefer skinny jeans. And I'm not sure what I think of Nicole post-Zoe

I remember when flares were in and thats all I used to wear. I really don't think they suit me and I was a bit too naive on the fashion front when they were popular last! So looks like I will be staying away from them this time round!

I'm still stuck in skinny. They look like they don't have feet! I don't get it...

I think the Olsen twins have the worst possible style ever. They look like the stopped to grow from to much alcohol while they where young - while their heads, blown up lips and shallow eyes continues to explode. For this kind of trousers you have to be either very slim (Kate Moss) or tall and slender (like Claudia Shiffer). Interesting blog by the way...

i started wearing flares in march. i have two pairs which are cut more like ashley olsen's and two pairs which are cut like lauren conrad's. I'M the one ^^ haha no.
i like the look on lauren conrad and nicole richie a lot, and you're right, ashley olsen really gets it right enviously often.
oh, beyoncé's mum is her stylist? i didn't know that! i have seen beyoncé in khaki too-tight high-waisted trousers, but this look you posted about looks really good!

i started wearing flares before the craze (sorry, i don't mean to sound arrogant), but i'm still wearing skinnies. i love both cuts.

I will stick to the skiny because i am not skinny.
The "patte d'elephant" jean this is the way we were calling the large 70's jeans have to be wear by a Jane Birkin style.

I just feel like I'm wearing a costume with those wide leg joints . . . still favoring my wicked tight JBrand skinnies!

I don't like the bell-bottom-like flares like Victoria's, but I think wide leg pants like Beyonce's look great.

I knew they'd be back soon! Flares were like the only thing around for a long ass time. It's weird, when skinnies first got really popular everyone was like you have to been super thin to wear them. Seems like now flares are having the same effect now that people have gotten comfortable with the skinny jeans look.

I join it. I have one white flare but i don't dare wearing it. i don't know why. maybe i think it's just kind of freak.

They look great, but I still think skinnies look better on me.

I love flares! Sexy, flattering, and fashion-forward. Much better than those awkward-looking straight leg and skinny jeans.

I realy like the Chloe trousers, With the expected arrival of high waisted womens trousers, shorts and mini skirts hitting our high street stores this summer, do you think this will be the end of the hipsters?
