Gossip Girl Fashion: Season 3

First of all, I would like to dismiss your fear —there are NO season finale spoilers in this post, not even of a fashion nature. Season 3 of Gossip Girl wrapped up last Monday night in the States and was one not to be missed! I watched it yesterday morning and I haven's shaken up the shock yet. Anyway, I thought it would be nice to look back at this season's fashion to see what's changed (for better or worse) from the previous seasons. Essentially, everyone is growing up and this looks quite obvious on the wardrobes. Unfortunately, this can sometimes translate into yawns on the screen, which didn't make season 3 not the greatest but we still got some amazing style moments.

It was the season of Blair and Chuck and Chuck and Blair (or 'Bluck' if you will). They got actually together for the first time and no one looked more in character and so fashionably out of era than them.

Also this season was a bit more about Serena in terms of clothes. She hardly ever wore anything that wasn't ridiculously body-con and she looked unbelievable in every single one of them, starting with the turquoise Blumarine and followed by the Carlos Miele with the detail on the shoulder, the lace Stella McCartney and the Marc Jacobs lamé dress. Her day looks were pretty naff, though. The only one that looked seemingly interesting to me was the one above with the Ralph Lauren cape.

Blair's wardrobe suffered this season. We still saw a bit of her love for odd mixtures of patterns and colours but being in a relationship with Chuck seemed to devote less thought to her clothes. There were some really good moments, however, like the two-colour RED Valentino dress, the black Victoria Beckham with the sequinned jacket or, my favourite, the all-black French look of beret, Manolo's and Chanel bag.

Now, a couple of girls threatened me with causing me physical pain if I published pictures of this character, which is why I chose to show her pictures with her face covered instead. She went completely mental this season and yet she didn't fail to deliver a few very good rock'n'roll outfits like the one in the Moschino sequinned dress with the 'Spiderman' detail at the neck.

The guys were totally boring this season. Even Chuck's sartorial wonders dimmed. Nate looks exactly the same episode after episode and Dan looks like a bulky lumberjack who always wears t-shirts with bizarre necklines. The good change about this season, though, was the hair. Chuck and, a bit into the season, Nate trimmed their hair at the sides and started doing it towards the back instead of the juvenile fringes they used to sport. Dan, however, not content with his lack of progress in this field decided to let his sideburns get out of control.

The rest of the characters didn't get up to much in terms of fashion either. Lilly looked very chic a couple of times like the one above but nothing even close to what she had us used to in the first season. Two good moments, though, were Dorota's wedding, which I liked not because of the dress but because you can see she is actually a person, and Nate's checked shirts. He did not wear anything else but they were good plaid shirts.
