Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘Raiders of the Lost Art’

Gossip Girl Fashion: 'Raiders of the Lost Art'
JustJared, Style.com
I haven't done a Gossip Girl Fashion post in ages. The show's fashion has been quite bland ever since it came back from its last break so I have just been watching. But since next week's episode is the penultimate of the season I thought I would at least choose the bits and bobs I liked because, let's face it, I am probably going to miss it over the summer.

I would like to thank the GG stylist team for finally injecting the show with some new designers. It was all about the Dries van Noten (FW11) blue tweed coat Blair wore this week. I loved how it looked paired with the patterned tights. I was not as big a fun of the citrus Brian Atwood pumps as part of this look – as much as it's about a POC this season. But I appreciate the fact that B recycled her shoes from earlier in the season.
I was also a fan of her other look – a classic camel coat covering up the (ironic) Hervé Léger dress and nude Sergio Rossi heels she has worn before in hot pink. The POC here was the Louis Vuitton  Monogram Fascination Lockit Bag in mustard.

Serena kept things quite simple this week. She spent most of the episode in a simple look – the good part came with her outdoor ensemble. She wore a black coat with a chic pair of Repetto lace-up shoes, a funky Theodora & Callum scarf (worn before by quite a few celebrities) and, my favourite, a Jimmy Choo Lara Woven shoulder bag holding a Marc by Marc Jacobs laptop cover.

Plot-wise things have picked up quite a bit lately – we have found out who Chuck's real mum and dad are (or have we?) and the Gossip Girl username and password has got around. But the biggest shock yet came at the end of this weeks episode, which I won't spoil to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. As the cast of Laguna Beach would say – So. Much. Drama.

Are you still watching?

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘The Princess Dowry’

Gossip Girl Fashion: 'The Princess Dowry'
HomeoftheNutty.com, JustJared
This week's episode of Gossip Girl, 'The Princess Dowry', was one of the best we have seen from all season 5 both in terms of plot and of fashion. I feel like only Georgina stirring things up can make the plot exciting. We should have enough interesting episodes once the show comes back in about a month's time.
Apparently all it took for everyone to dress their best was for CeCe pass way. Her funeral reception made everyone turn up in their finest attire. Serena wore one of the simplest looks yet – a long-sleeve black tee tucked into a super chic Derek Lam printed skirt, which she accompanied with a beige Fey coat and one of Mulberry's  new travel bags. Blair was also quite simple, by her standards anyway, in a Zac Posen skirt and a beautiful Jason Wu lace top.
Georgina also looked incredible this time in a sexy Carven cut-out dress that really suited her. She covered up in another Burberry, this time metallic, trench coat. She does love a bit of a British touch. Lily wore a Chantilly lace Dolce & Gabbana dress and I loved the effect of the statement necklace over the see-through neckline – perfect for the occasion. And even Ivy (or Charlie) looked pretty stunning in a Milly lace dress very much in line with what we've seen the Duchess of Cambridge wear lately.

Fendi bags- The ones we wear & the ones we’ll love
GGFendi
Fendi bags: the ones we wear & the ones we'll love
JustJared, Homeofthenutty
As I was preparing this week's Gossip Girl Fashion post it occurred to me that since the only two exciting bits of fashion in the whole episode were the Fendi bags that Serena and Blair wear it made sense to dedicate the post to Fendi instead.
It's funny because sometimes I feel like people sometimes don't give the house as much credit as they should. It's up there with Gucci and the rest of big heritage Italian designers and it's designed by Karl Largerfeld(!). Over the last few months we have been seeing a lot of Fendi on street style pictures, probably because the most stylish people in the industry realise that their bags are super classic but there is something about their lines that is also very modern. Such is the case of Elizabeth von Guttman, who was snapped in Paris with her green 'Silvana' bag or Bianca Bradolini's 'Chameleon' bag from a few months ago and even Giovanna Battaglia only yesterday.
The FW12 collection that was shown in Milan today is one of the best Fendi collections I remember. I am obsessed with the astrakhan trend already and I am loving the shopping bag style that they've introduced. As I am about the new felt peek-a-boo bags, which is a bit of a surprise from the brand since they're mostly known for their stunning use of furs and animal skins.

Gossip Girl Fashion- “Crazy Cupid Love”
GGs5e15
Gossip Girl Fashion: "Crazy Cupid Love"
HomeoftheNutty.com, Style.com
After weeks of waiting for a decent Blair Waldorf moment as we knew them we finally got not one but three this in this week's episode of Gossip Girl: "Crazy Cupid Love". The plot seems to be picking up and getting more interesting with a couple of unexpected turns so hopefully this is also a sign that the fashion will experience the same changes.
Blair's first look was a beautiful Zac Posen tweed and silk number (available at The Outnet). It was old-fashioned but cool and interesting. Perfect for her. Her second look I'd like to count as two. One for the dress on its own – a Reem Acra dress worthy of Valentino lovers – and the wrapped-up version of the look with a Red Valentino coat and matching scarf. Blair hasn't look this good in a while! If these weren't enough, she also delivered a nightwear hit with an orange Josie Natori wrap and chemise.
Serena's look was simple and chic, nothing too exciting. The look I was more interested about was also her night attire – a Club Monaco silk romper, which would have looked super chic were it not for the Isabel Marant vest. Who the hell wears a sequin vest to bed? This doesn't even make sense for Serena van der Woodsen!

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘The Back-Up Dan’
GGs5e14
Gossip Girl Fashion: 'The Back-Up Dan'
Courtesy of Burberry, Style.com, HomeoftheNutty.com
This week's episode of Gossip Girl picked up where last week's 100th episode left off, which usually means a slightly more exciting episode but no wardrobe changes. This time, however, we get a bit of a taste of both worlds.
It's odd because I only seem to get properly into the plot when things change 180 degrees every 30 seconds, which is worrying me, like I have a Gossip Girl-specific ADD. I just feel like now that there are no new characters and everyone's done everything with everybody is hard to surprise the audience.
Fashion-wise it was also a pretty good episode. The best moment was, of course, by Serena. Once she leaves Blair's wedding reception she covers her Vera Wang dress in the stunning lace Burberry trench from the 'Nude' collection. I was thrilled to see the trench hit the screen. I loved the look, with the organza train flowing out of the coat – one of the best looks from this season.
Blair has a (sort of) double hit this week. One for the Pre-Fall'11 Carolina Herrera dress she wears at the end of the episode – I can't emphasise enough how this is her style – and one for her I (heart) NY 'trackie' look at the airport. I didn't think Blair had it in her but it was a fun GG moment.

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘G.G.’ – The 100th Episode
GGs5e13
Gossip Girl Fashion: 'G.G.' – The 100th Episode
DavidsBridal.com, ShopChicks.com, TheBeautyBridal.com
This week's episode of Gossip Girl was a special one not only because the one and only Blair Waldorf is finally getting married but also because the show celebrated its 100th episode. It's kind of crazy to think we've been watching for 5 years now!
I can honestly say this episode is anything but disappointing, which is refreshing after the last couple of episodes. Fashion-wise it was interesting to say the least as bridal attire can go either way just by adding a bow or a lace sleeve. I loved Blair's Vera Wang dress even though I expected something slightly more... grand. I missed the original lace top and I would have gone for a more classic hair style, perhaps done up rather than wavy and down –that wasn't very Blair.
As it often happens, Serena looked better than her BFF. Also in Vera Wang Bridal, S looked really stunning in pale pink. I loved the detail of the bustier covered with chiffon and tied at the shoulder. The sort of beehive hair was also perfect, a tad Chanel, no?
Otherwise, everyone looked great at the wedding, even the 'cupcake trio' (see below) who looked a bit like upside down roses also in Vera Wang –she got a pretty sweet advertorial deal, right?
GGs5e13b
GGs5e13c
Even with plenty of drama and a wedding going on I would say the highlight of the episode was the beginning. There is nothing I love more than a classic GG moment of a character's dream. This time Serena dreams up the iconic Marilyn moment singing about her sparkly best friends. This soon turns into some sort of surreal yet brilliant face-off with Audrey Hepburn (Blair) who fights her to get Dan. The funniest bit is looking at the boy's faces –Nate and Chuck really crack up at some point and Dan looks totally into it.
Random as this moment was I can't think of two glamourous and iconic characters that go so well with the characters' personalities. Maybe they should do a special episode of everyone in costume? A sort of Gossip Girl version of 'Midnight in Paris'? I would LOVE that!

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘Father and the Bride’

Gossip Girl Fashion: 'Father and the Bride'
Screen Caps
I gave last week's Gossip Girl post a miss because, frankly, there wasn't anything interesting about it. I almost did the same this week but in the end I decided Serena's hit was enough to write up a little post.
I don't know what else Eric Daman is doing but it must be taking so much of his time that he really can't be bothered with the styling. Blair is one big mess after the other –endless ridiculous headpieces and "matchy-matchy" outfits that someone her age would never wear... There are also fewer wardrobe changes, which only slims down the chances of a good look.
For the most part of the episode I was also a bit annoyed with Serena's look. The Marc by Marc Jacobs jumper wasn't too bad but it looked super tacky with the otherwise lovely Haute Hippie mini skirt. I can
not remark enough how necessary it is to stuff bags (even if they're as ugly as this one) so that they don't feel lifeless. I only liked (a lot) the Rachel Roy boots that we can only see in one of the shots. Gratefully, Serena's second look was worth the wait. I loved the Sami & Lavi printed see-through blouse and its contrast with the Parker mini skirt. It was a super sophisticated look but it also felt young. The green accessories were spot on (as I have said many times in the past) and the hair an make up were exactly in the direction that S should be going.

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘Riding in Town Cars with Boys’

Gossip Girl Fashion: 'Riding in Town Cars with Boys'
CWtv.com, Style.com
This week my Gossip Girl Fashion post comes a little late, I know. But because this was the last episode before Christmas I thought a little delay wouldn't do any harm.
The best dressed this week, surprise surprise, was Serena. Her day look was one of her best this season. The Leyendecker blouse with the sequin embellishment looks fantastic with the Tibi leather shorts. It was a very Serena look but it felt more grown up and sophisticated than normal. I even liked the interesting detail of the patterned tights with the suede ankle boots. Her evening look, a fringed SS09 Marchesa pink and lilac number. I must admit I wasn't a huge fan of the original dress but it looked incredible on Blake, she has a way of making Marchesa almost feel like Givenchy.
Otherwise, I loved Blair's paisely-printed Balenciaga dress, it was a great pregnant look! I must admit that I almost liked Charlie's/Ivy's looks in this episode, which is to say a lot. Her BCBG day dress paired with the MM6 Margiela jacket was definitely a winner and her evening Badgley Mischka FW11 dress was even up to everyone else's standards. Lilly, in her Luisa Beccaria FW11 dress, looked a bit weird, like she was wearing curtains gathered at the waist.
And they're back to the waffles and champagne for breakfast, what else can I want!?

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘All the Pretty Sources’
GGs5e08a
We're not even halfway through season 5 of Gossip Girl but even without watching the rest I would dare say this is the best look! Serena wears one of the best pieces from Mary Katranzou's SS11 collection for Blair's shower. I can't tell you how excited I was to see this. It was something I didn't see coming (which is brilliant!) and also something that suits Blake's character so well. Not to mention how occassion-appropriate the dress was. I also have to say that I loved the accessorising –the über-long pearl necklace, the patchwork Louboutin heels (which wouldn't work in another scenario) and the super cute messy pony tail tied up in a pink bow. This is the best Serena has looked in all of this season! Hopefully we will get to see her in some of the incredible pieces Katrantzou created for FW11 and (my favourite) SS12, that would just make me so happy!
I am so ecstatic about this look I will not even mention how overdressed Serena's day outfit was. Ha!

I think I've figured out what's wrong with Blair's styling as of late. All the necklines of everything she wears are very off. All the garments also happen to be quite loose around the waist so perhaps they're trying to give her a 'pregnant look' to go along with the plot? I wish they looked at Beyoncé or Nicole Richie for examples of how to dress pregnant. Even Victoria Beckham!
I really disliked B's day look in this episode. It was way too fussy even though the pieces individually were quite nice –I loved the Alberta Ferretti dress and the Moschino jacket but not together! And I wish they stopped doing head pieces! The evening look was a lot nicer, fun and very Blair. It gave her an odd flat chest but at least it was sexy and different!

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘The Big Sleep No More’
GG05x07b
Last week I eventually decided against posting about Gossip Girl because I didn't have time to do it for Wednesday/Thursday and, to be honest, the fashion wasn't that notable anyway. This week's 'The Big Sleep No More' episode isn't particularly exciting fashion-wise but at least there's a couple of changes of clothes for every character. Even Serena!
Blair had a big big miss and quite a hit in this episode. The miss was her day look. I don't know if they're getting too much inspiration from the Duchess of Cambridge but it's not working. The headpiece is completely out of place and even though I love the Dolce & Gabbana dress the thick black tights really spoil the vibe. I did appreciate the details, though. I love the Roger Vivier 'Diligence' bag and the cuff and the Phillip Lim shoes are super chic. The hit was her evening look –an embellished cocktail number by Oscar de la Renta that needed no extra accessorising. Alas, this better look is only in the episode for a short time.
My only question is, why isn't anyone wearing a coat? This is supposed to be New York in November.

Once again Serena (and when I say Serena I really mean the show's stylist, but you get the idea) was the best dressed this week. Not because she's trying particularly hard but because everyone else is looking so rubbish. Especially Charlie/Ivy. I have no words for her day look. It's like she's trying to be Serena on a budget and with a flat annoying face. I am only hoping that the cute M Missoni cardigan she wore this week is the beginning of slightly better fashion choices. Her evening dress I could have not minded were it not for the tacky flower details at the bottom of the skirt. Could someone put in a request for a wonder bra for her?
Serena's day look was very her. I am starting to get a bit tired of these boho city looks, though. Start wearing winter wear, it's bloody November! Serena is a huge Mulberry fan, I gather, and this week she's trying out the 'Harriet' bag, which she paired with a stunning statement necklace and a pair of studded burgundy Brian Atwoods that I loved. Her Moschino evening moment was so sexy. Not many people could pull off that many details on a dress but she looks very elegant and young. I simply love it!

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘The Fasting and the Furious’
GGs5e05
This week's Gossip Girl episode was, again, on the boring side. Though they did give some hints at the end that suggest some bigger drama coming up.
I was really disappointed by Blair's looks this week. Her day outfit was the worst out of the two. The super high-waisted trousers were such a bad fit and gave her a flat bum. I was only not completely disgusted because of the cool Dolce & Gabbana top and the fuchsia Sergio Rossi shoes. I also didn't like the Valentino bag she added to the look. It was so old and dated...
The reason why I disliked the second ensemble is because, even though I actually love the SS10 Victoria Beckham dress she wore, it's such a bad fit. I understand that a lot of this pieces are samples but it's a popular TV show, can the clothes not be altered?

I am starting to develop this animosity towards Dan. I used to like him but ever since he's been referenced to as a young Scott Fitzgerald, Bret Easton Ellis ("The Gatsby of the social media age", WTF?) he's becoming a bit of a snobby wuss. I thought I was going to be sick when he said "It's been an incredible whirlwind. I just wish I could be sharing it with my friends and family".

The best dressed were, of course, the van der Woodsens. Serena keeps wearing turquoise and aquamarine, which suit her so well. I feel like the stylists are listening to me? I must say it was a bit like sparkle central in Serena town with the glittery top and the earrings but it did look very cute with the short skirt and the Fendi bag.
My absolute favourite this week was Lily. I am so happy she's finally back. Her green Diane von Furstemberg dress wouldn't have probably worked on anyone else but it looks so elegant on her. I even love flower earrings that look like a plastic version of Prada's SS12 jewellery (and that I swear Serena has worn before). And the touch of the Dolce & Gabbana leopard and lace Miss Sicily bag was simply brilliant.

I am very impressed so far with the choice of shoes and bags this season. Although I would like to put in a request to the styling department to please start stuffing bags so that it looks like something might be in them. It really takes away from the look when they're all flat and shapeless!

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘Memoirs of an invisible Dan’GGs05e4
This season of Gossip Girl is being a rollercoaster. I loved last week's episode but 'Memoirs of an invisible Dan' was so dull! I could cope with an uneventful episode if, like they used to, Serena and Blair would change four or five times during the day but it seems this season we're not getting more than a change of clothes.
Serena, who I'm happy to say is still the best dressed, looked amazing in a Yigal Azrouel dress that she wore with amazing snakeskin YSL wedges and a Jody Candrian cuff was the perfect example of a day-to-night look. Once she took off the chunky cardi she was ready for a cocktail. I also loved her 'relaxed' look with the sequinned Haute Hippy skirt and the cozy tank top.
Blair had a hit and a miss this week. The hit was the Louis Vuitton Resort 2012 print dress with the chiffon hemline that she wore with a stunning Prada bag. The miss was her evening look –a Peter Som SS10 dress with a beautiful textured top that was spoiled by the ragged silk skirt that looked really cheap. It was less conservative than normal but I wasn't keen on it.

There's little else to report on the rest of the characters. Liz Hurley keeps looking hot but exactly the same as every week, the boys are looking good but not trying hard enough, not even Chuck. And Lily had two hits but she's got so little screen time we barely have time to enjoy them.

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘The Jewel of Denial’
GGs05e03A
After a slightly boring episode the week before, Gossip Girl added a little of much needed drama into episode 3. Serena was, again, my best dressed this week. Her look went along the same line as last week's, which I loved, but this time it was a bit more city-appropriate. I loved the Oscar de la Renta cuff that matches the earrings from last week and Charlotte Olympia 'Dolly' pumps in a citrus green. Unfortunately, this was the only look we saw from her this week. Since when does Serena van der Woodsen pass on a fashion show and party invitation?
Jenny Packham's fashion show and party was another nice surprise. The deisgner has been a regular to Gossip Girl in the past. In fact, Blair and the Duchess of Cambridge have both worn the same dress! Perhaps that's why after her SS12 collection Style.com finally decided to add her to the list of designers displayed on the website.

I loved Liz Hurley in the white Marios Schwab dress this week. It was body-con enough for her but the design and the detail across the top made it kind of interesting for her, it just felt modern. (Sometimes I sound like Nina Garcia, no?)

Blair has gone back to her old boring dressing habits a little... Though I must say I am still loving her attitude. The way she carries herself this season is different, like she suddenly feels super cool.
My favourite look form her in this episode had to be the lovely Louis Vuitton number from the Resort 2011 collection. The flower print and the bow at the waist scream Blair Waldorf and the bustier top adds a touch of sexiness. She also wore well the Jenny Packham but the evening look didn't feel as special this time...
On another note, I am not convinced that the prince is the father. It's GOT TO be Chuck, otherwise the show is doomed! How amazing would a baby of theirs look in a little bowtie?!

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘Beauty and the Feast’
GGs05e02
I should know by now that the first episode of each Gossip Girl season is always really good fun but the episode that follows usually disappoints... 'Beauty and the Feast' is not a very eventful episode. We do get to see the last of the cast in LA, which I already said last week I enjoyed, but everything else is otherwise very blah.
What's not blah at all is the Serena's only outfit in this episode. If a van der Woodsen is not going to change three or four times she might as well make an impression with just the one outfit.
Coral and turquoise look so great on her so I'm glad she keeps wearing both. The jacket, which I first thought was this Vanessa Bruno one Rachel Bilson wore months ago, it actually Top Shop. I loved the fact that it was cropped so they paired it up with a high-waisted super short skirt and a striped tank top. And I loved the accessories even more –muted suede Prada sandals, an aquamarine Mulberry 'Taylor' bag, and (my favourite) a pair of Oscar de la Renta earrings with coral, green and turquoise stones. The only thing I wasn't too keen on were the two big flower rings, one also by Oscar, that were just a tad too much!

Blair's looks weren't as good as in the last episode but I stand by what I said about her grown-up style being a lot more chic than before. For the first part of the episode she wears one of Stella McCartney's famous citrus skirts from SS12. And I loved that she went over the top and kept the citrus vibe alive with a yellow ruffled silk top, an orange handbag and orange Brian Atwood pumps.
I realised I failed to comment on Blair's new hair colour this season. It's so chocolate! But it doesn't always look great. It depends so much on the colours she's wearing, which is a bit of a shame... But it looks amazing throughout this whole episode.
My favourite look this time was this very subtle golden brocade dress by Prada. It fit her like a glove and she kept it very simple but chic with aquamarine earrings and and a pearl colour tube clutch.
The third look was supposed to be some sort of laid-back pyjama ensemble but, of course, it's Blair so there's only so relaxed you can go. No trackie bottoms. Instead, Blair wears a sleeveless silk printed shirt that I really wish they made with a long sleeve for men. I would wear it with a blazer.
It looks like now that she's expecting and marrying a prince she's really stepping the fashion up. It was about time!

Gossip Girl Fashion- Season 5 kicks off with a Bang!
GGS5E01a
CWtv.com, Style.com
I was quite excited for Gossip Girl's return this week. I always get this feeling in September after being deprived of my main source of entertainment during the summer. And the first episode did not disappoint.

Before I go on I would just like to warn that
there are spoilers ahead
so don't blame me if I spoil it.

My favourite two things about this episode were Blair and the Serena-Chuck-Nate triangle in LA.

Blair seems to have become a lot sexier and cooler over the summer. She delights us with 4 or 5 changes of clothes during the episode and each is better than the next! I was thrilled to see the only Oscar de La Renta look I liked from the SS11 collection but my favourite for the jewel print mini dress by Moschino Cheap & Chic. That is exactly the vibe the stylist should be aiming at for Blair!

While Blair stayed in NYC Serena, Nate and Chuck went away to LA. I really loved the dynamics they've got going on in this episode –very chilled and grown up. And I am also very much into their styles, which have also relaxed. I also really enjoyed all their New Yorker references to LA, they make it sound like they're in a different country!

Mr Porter
The best dressed guy in the episode is obviously Chuck. You know how much I love his style. And I like it now even more. The tan biker jacket (Ralph Lauren, if I'm not mistaken) and neckerchief give him a kind of vintage air and feels current and rock'n'roll. It reminded me a lot of Leo Dicaprio's style from The Aviator, though his jacket was Belstaff.
What I do not understand is how he is not absolutely roasting in that jacket if it's the summer. But hey, he's not the only guy who sacrifices comfort to look good. A man must have his priorities in order!

I am intrigued to see if he keeps up this cool flair once he's back to New York or if he'll go back to his purple shirts and red ties. In the meantime, he really needs to get that bruise looked at. How can you get one of those and not realise until a day after?
