Best Dressed of the Weekend- The Evening Looks

Best Dressed of the Weekend: The Evening Looks
JustJared
After thinking about it all day yesterday I eventually decided to go for two posts today. It was too hard to cut down the best looks from this   to only three or four. And so I have divided them into day and evening wear. I wanted to start with the latter because three out of four looks are from this weekend's White House Correspondent's Dinner in Washington DC. Had you not known what was going on you might have thought it was the Golden Globes!
Reese Witherspoon, in a stunning Monique Lhuillier, looked more beautiful than ever. I love it when she goes classic because she adds this Southern flair of hers giving the look some old-fashioned glamour. The neckline of the dress was interesting enough for it not to be boring and the turquoise earrings were the perfect touch and they brought out her eyes!
Kate Hudson (actually, Rachel Zoe) went for an amazing purple sequinned Jenny Packham dress. It was totally full-lenth, with a three-quarter sleeve and a slightly open neckline – extremely chic! It was an elegant yet distinctive look for an evening like that. The big chignon was also a great call. I love a woman with her hair up.
Malin Akerman, of whose style I can't say much, also looked incredible in a dress yet to be ID-ed vintage Odicini Couture dress . It was a risky choice of dress because it's hard to find the right length when the hemline goes below the knees but doesn't reach the floor. The front slit, which I loved, helped a lot. As did the wedges she wore with the dress. I just wish a had a cross-legged shot – this dress is screaming for one.
Chloë Moretz wasn't at the White House but I lover her choice of dress. She wore FW12 Kenzo and a pair of my favourite Jimmy Choo sandals, which my sister has as well (funny, no?). I always really like Chloë because she's one of the few teenage celebrities who looks cool and experiments wearing different things but is always age-appropriate. This gets a top grade.

Best Dressed of the Weekend- Christina Ricci’s on a roll!

Half of this edition of Best Dressed of the Weekend comes from LFW-related events and the other half from the never-ending parties going on in LA.
Jamie King is one of the most beautiful women in TV at the moment. She looks absolutely stunning week after week on 'Hart of Dixie'. Her latest hit comes from the Marni x H&M event in LA. Her two piece look that looks like a drop-waist jumpsuit is perfect for her. The headband and the flats add just the right touch.
Christina Ricci is currently promoting her 'Bel Ami' film around the world and looking consistently chic. This time she wore Jenny Packham to the Berlin premiere. The sequinned gown is quite simple but she adds a Je-ne-sais-quoi to it and really makes it pop.
Victoria Beckham is enjoying a rain of well-deserved fashion critics at the moment. This look is from the Harvey Nichols launch of her namesake diffusion like on Friday night. I loved the subtle details of the two-part black dress and the white details on the collar and the cuffs. Super chic!
And Rihanna is getting it spot on lately. After her incredible moment at the Grammys she turned up in another super sexy Giorgio Armani satin number at the designer's presentation and party on Saturday night in London. J'adore.

Gossip Girl Fashion- ‘The Jewel of Denial’
GGs05e03A
After a slightly boring episode the week before, Gossip Girl added a little of much needed drama into episode 3. Serena was, again, my best dressed this week. Her look went along the same line as last week's, which I loved, but this time it was a bit more city-appropriate. I loved the Oscar de la Renta cuff that matches the earrings from last week and Charlotte Olympia 'Dolly' pumps in a citrus green. Unfortunately, this was the only look we saw from her this week. Since when does Serena van der Woodsen pass on a fashion show and party invitation?
Jenny Packham's fashion show and party was another nice surprise. The deisgner has been a regular to Gossip Girl in the past. In fact, Blair and the Duchess of Cambridge have both worn the same dress! Perhaps that's why after her SS12 collection Style.com finally decided to add her to the list of designers displayed on the website.

I loved Liz Hurley in the white Marios Schwab dress this week. It was body-con enough for her but the design and the detail across the top made it kind of interesting for her, it just felt modern. (Sometimes I sound like Nina Garcia, no?)

Blair has gone back to her old boring dressing habits a little... Though I must say I am still loving her attitude. The way she carries herself this season is different, like she suddenly feels super cool.
My favourite look form her in this episode had to be the lovely Louis Vuitton number from the Resort 2011 collection. The flower print and the bow at the waist scream Blair Waldorf and the bustier top adds a touch of sexiness. She also wore well the Jenny Packham but the evening look didn't feel as special this time...
On another note, I am not convinced that the prince is the father. It's GOT TO be Chuck, otherwise the show is doomed! How amazing would a baby of theirs look in a little bowtie?!

Jenny Packham SS12- The perfect Gossip Girl wardrobe

I have to admit that I am surprised at myself this season because of the collections from the New York catwalks that I am finding interesting.
I thought Marchesa, which I often criticise, was exceptionally good. The fact that they actually put a runway show together definitely has something to do with it, as clothes don't look the same when they move. Bur regardless, it was a great collection full of red carpet hits.

I was even more surprised to be going through Jenny Packham's SS12 line and saving some of the looks to my iPhoto. I only started paying attention to the brand since it wouldn't stop being worn by Blake and Leighton on Gossip Girl.
This new collection, like Marchesa, has quite a lot of really nice cocktail and evening numbers that are perfect for Serena and Blair and that I'm hoping to see on Gossip Girl season 5. I love the very settle lingerie detailing on some of the shorter dresses and the heavy embellishing of night gowns, which reminds me of decadent 20's dresses.

Kate Middleton dresses like a Waldorf
MiddletonPackham
[CWtv, JennyPackham, JustJared]
I had made a promise to myself not to blog about the Duchess of Cambridge too often after the wedding. It's been a little hard because she has been dressing extremely well lately. Her white look for the Derby Day at Epsom was extremely chic and it epitomised the perfect English look. The coat by Reiss, one of her preferred brands, covered a white cocktail Jenny Packham number.
Today for at the ARK Gala Dinner she chose another Jenny Packham with sequins and Swarovski crystal detailing. Such is chance that the dress was the same one Blair Waldorf wore on "The Princess and the Frog" episode of Gossip Girl. In moments like these I am silly enough to wonder whether Kate Middleton may be a GG fan and watching the show might have thought "I need to wear that dress!" Funnily, this was the gown Blair chose for her first public appearance with his prince.
I must say Middleton wears it a lot better than B. It is a simple cut but the chiffon details on the sleeves and the silver sequins and crystals create one of those moments I love when jewellery becomes pointless. And, well, after this I am also a lot more excited to see what the future queen of England wears at upcoming events.

Finally an episode that doesn't make me yawn from the beginning! This week's Gossip Girl wen't back to the old tricks. Blair gets on a limo every 10 minutes and miraculously crosses Manhattan in record times and Serena wears cocktail dresses around the house. She actually opens the episode in a purple Christian Dior, which is as day-inappropriate as it is kind on the eye. As long as the fashion stays up to this standard I'm happy to let the plot go bananas.
For the party later in the episode Serena slips into a draped salmon/pink Jenny Packham. The dress is exactly the kind of thing she used to wear two seasons ago when all you could think of during her scenes was 'how can someone look that good?'

Blair also has to brilliant fashion moments in "Shattered Bass". The first is an orange number (do you know who's it by?) of which I wish we got to see more. I loved how it was accessorised with layered chunky necklaces.
The second is an Alexis Mabille Couture dress. I looked and thought carefully about this dress because Blair looks stunning in it but only when you see full shots of her. Looking only at the top it seems like a Baroque extravaganza someone might've designed while on crack. However, it is a great fit for someone who is about to become royalty.

I'm excited to see more from the "Queen of Monaco" character. She dresses extremely well with a slightly Mad Men twist. And now that Lily is confined to her house it's nice to see an adult looking chic.

I've just about had it with Serena's cousin. Not only she steals her clothes and looks absolutely rubbish in them but her moves are so dumb. If you're going to go all Waldorf-bitch on someone do plan ahead.
On the bright side, Nate and Raina get out of the house for once. She looks smashing in a bight orange gown with asymmetric silver straps and Nate also looks the part. If only his suit jacket was his size...

You might have also noticed the worst product placement in history. Eleanor actually slips in her lines about Vitamin Water and some kind of creative project in collaboration with the CFDA. Is that even real or just some extra BS so try and make the story plausible?
And also, did anyone notice this parallelism between the scene in the warehouse and 'Resevoir dogs'?

Because I make this post this week a lot of my friends like to talk about what happens and what doesn't every week at Gossip Girl. And I'm happy they do because it helps me know I'm not going mad. Every week I think the show gets more dull and everyone agrees. The fashion usually makes up for it. Except for this week, that is.
Apart from Blair's beautiful Jenny Packham dress all the looks were nothing out of the ordinary. The only other thing I would probably point out, which comes as a nice change, is how Serena has stopped wearing odd layers of uneven tops and jackets and has chosen skinny trousers that suit her better.
I didn't even got to enjoy a breakfast or brunch in this episode. So I had to be contented with the (very!) cool Blair Waldorf phone.
Let's hope next week's brings a little more drama than "The Princess and the Frog".

Are you still watching Gossip Girl?
