Shoe Porn Friday: Roger Vivier and then some

I know these Friday posts are meant to be only about a pair of shoes that we love but I simply couldn't resist... The Roger Vivier SS13 collection was presented in Paris on Monday and, as usual, there are almost as many show-stoppers as there are pieces in the collection.

My favourites continue to be from the Prismick line – they were created by Bruno Frisoni only two seasons ago but they already feel like RV staples. I was then in love with the yellow and white model that we recently saw Emma Stone rocking at NYFW. Now the brand has reinvedted them in different shades of pink in suede for the shoe and snakeskin for the bag. I am thinking Carey Mulligan at 'The Great Gatsby' premiere. Perfect, no?

For SS13 has also introduced a few new pieces. The smoking slippers, which come in quite a few different models (I love these sequinned ones!), and the Metro Square bag, that will join the ranks of the RV classics before long. Mark my words.

Shoe Porn Friday: 'A Queen Forever', Part II

Two weeks ago I posted the sketch of the shoes Bruno Frisoni had created for Roger Vivier finding inspiration in the Queen's coronation shoes. Last Wednesday night Roger Vivier invited me to preview the final result at the Masterpiece Brilliant Exhibition, which opened yesterday and will run until July 4th.
It was impressive how such an opulent piece of an astronomical price could actually be so elegant and subtle. The 4000 diamonds that shape the fleur-de-lys motif are beautifully shaped like stars and circles as if descended from the heavens. As I was told, the idea behind the design was that as a tired queen rips her diamond necklace from her neck the diamonds fall onto her feet and stick to her shoes. Pretty royal.
If you have a chance, I recommend you stop by to check this and some of the other exquisite pieces at the exhibition.

Penélope Cruz seems to be looking better now than she did before having a child and I'm glad she's showing it off. I love the wet hair look, which adds a beachy feel to her stunning Michael Kors dress. The accessories were neutral but added to the chicness, especially the Roger Vivier clutch.
Kiernan Shipka is quite simply the most stylish 12 year old in the world. I love seeing young stars enjoying dressing up but being aware that there's always plenty of time to experiment when you're old enough. Her Miu Miu dress with floral macramè embroidery was as fashion-forward as she can get.
Lady Gaga, who has been a bit off the radar lately and wearing slightly toned down looks (by her standards) stepped out in a great gown from the Atelier Versace collection – not one of my favourites but pretty amazing and even conservative for her.
And, of course, Emma Stone. I have a feeling I am going to be posting quite a bit about her over the next few weeks. For the Moscow stop of her Spiderman press tour she wore a floral Lanvin dress. I love the black strokes over it that make it look like an unfinished painting. The only flaw was her slightly odd eye shadow.

Shoe Porn Friday: 'A Queen Forever'

Not a lot of people might know this because it's almost unimaginable for a monarch to wear anything not produced in their country but Elizabeth II actually wore Roger Vivier for her coronation in 1953 and a big par of the later years.
In celebration of the Diamond Jubilee, Bruno Frisoni, Creative Director of Roger Vivier, has created an original shoe inspired by the original Roger Vivier shoes designed for the Queen's coronation. The result is a shoe that might as well be taken to the Tower of London to be kept with the Crown Jewels. 'A Queen Forever' is totally hand-crafted and created in a collaboration with the East India company. Over 4000 cut diamonds are incrusted in an intricate setting shaped like the iconic fleur-de-lys that decorates the St Edward Crown and the Imperial State Crown worn by the Queen. All framed by black satin and jet feathers.
'A Queen Forever' will be showed to the public for the first time from June 28th until till July 4th for the occasion of the Masterpiece Brilliant Exhibition in London.

Last night I attended a Roger Vivier event at the brand's Sloane Street store to celebrate their fantastic Prismick Collection. I have been obsessed with the collection ever since I saw it for the first time at the SS12 press day. I love the art deco vibe of the collection, which feels super modern.

This time Roger Vivier presented a series of photographs featuring Fatima Bhutto, Jemma Kidd, Mary-Clare Winwood Fernanda Niven, Amanda Hearst, Marta Ferri, Harumi Klossowska and India Mahdavi with the Prismick collection shot in their favourite spots. Such a lovely project!
Jemma Kidd, Allegra Hicks, Tara Agace, Ortensia Visconti and Elizabeth von Guttman were amongst the stylish crowd that, very appropriately accessorised in Roger Vivier, enjoyed the delicious Bellinis, champagne and chic canapés.
I personally had a great time as you can see in my face! I can't remember what I was talking about but I look so passionate about it, don't I? – A really big thank you to the ever lovely RV team who always treat us so well!

Roger Vivier launches 'Jeune Fille' in London

Yesterday evening Roger Vivier held a beautiful tea party at their Sloane Street store to celebrate the launch of their new 'Jeune Fille' collection. The collection is the first form the brand for young children. Well, not for young children but for stylish young girls.

The new 'mini-Gommette' ballerinas are based on the original 'Gommette' ones made for grown ups. They are perfect for children because they have a rubber sole and their patent leather is soft and will withstand anything! Their ankle strap is perfect to make sure no shoe goes astray but these can also be removed for a more city chic look. They come in perfect hues for the summer – Indian pink, cobalt blue, poppy red, black and snow white.

The RV store was filled with balloons and all sorts of sweets and a line of huge lollipops and little windmills welcomed everyone to the store.

The shoes are available from March exclusively at Roger Vivier boutiques worldwide!

Three V-Day gifts for men who like to keep it classy

Who wants a pink toaster for Valentine's Day? After being bombarded with emails about V-Day ideas for the last few weeks I wanted to prove that gifts for this date don't have to be tacky but they can be pink just as long as Miuccia designs them.

Prada has created a super fun capsule collection that you can see here. My favourite pieces are the heart earrings, which are great because they could easily be part of the SS12 collection but with a heart detail. And the iPad cover, because even though it's covered in hearts you will realise looking closer that all the love is for Prada so it's actually a timeless piece.

Roger Vivier has chosen not to cover any of their products with harts or paint them pink and instead they invite customers to pay a visit to a RV boutique tomorrow, Saturday 11th, where calligraphers will be available to write a love note for your other half to accompany one of the scents from the RV Fragrance Collection – Rose, Neroli, Iris, Amber and Sandalwood. Now, that's old school romance!

Shoe Porn Friday: Roger Vivier's 'Blue Angel'

I have know I was going to post about this shoe since the beginning of the week. Roger Vivier has released a limited edition collection of bags and accessories named 'Rendez Vous' (I love the play on the RV). Everything is so decadent, which is one of my favourite adjectives, and looks incredibly crafted. Bruno Frisoni, creative director of RV, has envisioned this line as a collection of classic pieces (with a twist) that can be passed through generations.
I have posted the rest of the pieces on our Facebook page – you can see them here. This week I could not cheat like I did last Friday so I actually chose only one model. Its name is 'Blue Angel'. What I love about it is that it feels almost like a sculpture. The way the feathers have been applied sticking out here and there is such a stunning touch. There is something royal about the shoe (Marie Antoinette would go bananas over it), like it has an attitude of its own.
The collection will be available for orders from June 2012.

Gossip Girl Fashion: 'G.G.' – The 100th Episode

This week's episode of Gossip Girl was a special one not only because the one and only Blair Waldorf is finally getting married but also because the show celebrated its 100th episode. It's kind of crazy to think we've been watching for 5 years now!

I can honestly say this episode is anything but disappointing, which is refreshing after the last couple of episodes. Fashion-wise it was interesting to say the least as bridal attire can go either way just by adding a bow or a lace sleeve. I loved Blair's Vera Wang dress even though I expected something slightly more... grand. I missed the original lace top and I would have gone for a more classic hair style, perhaps done up rather than wavy and down –that wasn't very Blair.

As it often happens, Serena looked better than her BFF. Also in Vera Wang Bridal, S looked really stunning in pale pink. I loved the detail of the bustier covered with chiffon and tied at the shoulder. The sort of beehive hair was also perfect, a tad Chanel, no?

Otherwise, everyone looked great at the wedding, even the 'cupcake trio' (see below) who looked a bit like upside down roses also in Vera Wang –she got a pretty sweet advertorial deal, right?

Even with plenty of drama and a wedding going on I would say the highlight of the episode was the beginning. There is nothing I love more than a classic GG moment of a character's dream. This time Serena dreams up the iconic Marilyn moment singing about her sparkly best friends. This soon turns into some sort of surreal yet brilliant face-off with Audrey Hepburn (Blair) who fights her to get Dan. The funniest bit is looking at the boy's faces –Nate and Chuck really crack up at some point and Dan looks totally into it.

Random as this moment was I can't think of two glamourous and iconic characters that go so well with the characters' personalities. Maybe they should do a special episode of everyone in costume? A sort of Gossip Girl version of 'Midnight in Paris'? I would LOVE that!

We're not even halfway through season 5 of Gossip Girl but even without watching the rest I would dare say this is the best look! Serena wears one of the best pieces from Mary Katranzou's SS11 collection for Blair's shower. I can't tell you how excited I was to see this. It was something I didn't see coming (which is brilliant!) and also something that suits Blake's character so well. Not to mention how occassion-appropriate the dress was. I also have to say that I loved the accessorising –the über-long pearl necklace, the patchwork Louboutin heels (which wouldn't work in another scenario) and the super cute messy pony tail tied up in a pink bow. This is the best Serena has looked in all of this season! Hopefully we will get to see her in some of the incredible pieces Katrantzou created for FW11 and (my favourite) SS12, that would just make me so happy!

I am so ecstatic about this look I will not even mention how overdressed Serena's day outfit was. Ha!

I think I've figured out what's wrong with Blair's styling as of late. All the necklines of everything she wears are very off. All the garments also happen to be quite loose around the waist so perhaps they're trying to give her a 'pregnant look' to go along with the plot? I wish they looked at Beyoncé or Nicole Richie for examples of how to dress pregnant. Even Victoria Beckham!

I really disliked B's day look in this episode. It was way too fussy even though the pieces individually were quite nice –I loved the Alberta Ferretti dress and the Moschino jacket but not together! And I wish they stopped doing head pieces! The evening look was a lot nicer, fun and very Blair. It gave her an odd flat chest but at least it was sexy and different!

Last week I eventually decided against posting about Gossip Girl because I didn't have time to do it for Wednesday/Thursday and, to be honest, the fashion wasn't that notable anyway. This week's 'The Big Sleep No More' episode isn't particularly exciting fashion-wise but at least there's a couple of changes of clothes for every character. Even Serena!
Blair had a big big miss and quite a hit in this episode. The miss was her day look. I don't know if they're getting too much inspiration from the Duchess of Cambridge but it's not working. The headpiece is completely out of place and even though I love the Dolce & Gabbana dress the thick black tights really spoil the vibe. I did appreciate the details, though. I love the Roger Vivier 'Diligence' bag and the cuff and the Phillip Lim shoes are super chic. The hit was her evening look –an embellished cocktail number by Oscar de la Renta that needed no extra accessorising. Alas, this better look is only in the episode for a short time.
My only question is, why isn't anyone wearing a coat? This is supposed to be New York in November.

Once again Serena (and when I say Serena I really mean the show's stylist, but you get the idea) was the best dressed this week. Not because she's trying particularly hard but because everyone else is looking so rubbish. Especially Charlie/Ivy. I have no words for her day look. It's like she's trying to be Serena on a budget and with a flat annoying face. I am only hoping that the cute M Missoni cardigan she wore this week is the beginning of slightly better fashion choices. Her evening dress I could have not minded were it not for the tacky flower details at the bottom of the skirt. Could someone put in a request for a wonder bra for her?
Serena's day look was very her. I am starting to get a bit tired of these boho city looks, though. Start wearing winter wear, it's bloody November! Serena is a huge Mulberry fan, I gather, and this week she's trying out the 'Harriet' bag, which she paired with a stunning statement necklace and a pair of studded burgundy Brian Atwoods that I loved. Her Moschino evening moment was so sexy. Not many people could pull off that many details on a dress but she looks very elegant and young. I simply love it!

I am still amazed by the turn out at Fashion's Night Out Tokyo last Saturday. If we thought that New York's or London's were really big this one has very easily put them to shame.
Bloggers, stylists and editors in general all came together making it evident that the Japanese capital is quickly becoming sort of a new mecca of fashion. Even all of the world's Vogue editors made their way to Tokyo for the fashion events.
And, of course, brands from all over the globe also travelled to the city to share their products with the Japanese market. Among them was, of course, Roger Vivier. Their pop up shop was the first opportunity  Tokyo shoppers had to buy the brand in their own country. Not only they could stock up on the FW11 classics from the current collection but they could also enjoy a preview of the new SS12 line.
Seda Domanic, Victoria Davydova, Emmanuelle Alt and Anaita Adajania stopped by the pop up shop, which was decorated as a good old French Maison with vintage and original pieces of furniture.

Know Wear

A few weeks back I attended the Roger Vivier SS12 press day, which, as anything hosted by the Tod's Group, was very enjoyable. They're always so lovely and they treat me so well.
The collection was stunning and very fun. This time Bruno Frisoni is taking the Roger Vivier woman to Africa for spring. It was very interesting to see how he had taken the brand's signature shapes, which are very geometric, and mixed them with bold prints, bright colours and new materials.
I absolutely loved the Micro Metro bag in the colour block cheetah and leopard prints. The same goes for one of my favourite bags, which they previously did in a 'Chesterfield' style for FW11, and now is covered with animal print canvas with a colourful inside of the Roger Vivier logo.
My favourite pieces from the collection were the ones in the metallic brushed leather that had a slightly 20's feel but were at the same time very modern. It was such a strange sensation to feel these pieces in your hands. At first sight you think they will be heavy and rigid like metal but instead they were light and soft to the touch. Not to mention the fact that they would make excellent accessories to complement your evening looks.
Frisoni played a lot with different materials –African necklace beads, applique plastic pieces and even aged folded sequins. The result was a very striking collection of pieces that make a statement yet remain classic and rather timeless. After all, there is a reason why people so diverse such as Carla Bruni, Inès de la Fressange and Blair Waldorf all love wearing Roger Vivier.

We've seen a strong 20's influence in many SS12 collections. I love how designers have reinvented drop waist dresses and flapper fringed hemlines. You can almost hear the 20's roar again.

This weekend Roger Vivier presented their SS12 collection in Paris, which I was sad to miss. Their people always put together the most beautiful presentation in really stunning venues.

The brand joined in on the 20's trend for next season. They approached it from a different angle –the early era that saw the end of the Art deco movement and the beginning of Cubism started by Picasso and Braque.

The key for the Roger Vivier SS12 styles created by Bruno Frisoli are the geometric leather pieces in different colours sewn together onto a uniform base that make up the shoes and bags. The effect reminded me of the cubist take on the figure of the harlequin that Roger Vivier has often used as a motif –this time in that cubist/art deco way I mentioned.

The 'Prismick bag' and the 'T Bar Sandal' (picture on the right) are two of my favourite pieces. They're fun and contemporary but classic. I can really see them on Blair Waldorf. She's worn some stunning Roger Vivier pieces in the past and these citrusy colours would be perfect for her!

I was quite excited for Gossip Girl's return this week. I always get this feeling in September after being deprived of my main source of entertainment during the summer. And the first episode did not disappoint.

Before I go on I would just like to warn that

there are spoilers ahead

so don't blame me if I spoil it.

My favourite two things about this episode were Blair and the Serena-Chuck-Nate triangle in LA.

Blair seems to have become a lot sexier and cooler over the summer. She delights us with 4 or 5 changes of clothes during the episode and each is better than the next! I was thrilled to see the only Oscar de La Renta look I liked from the SS11 collection but my favourite for the jewel print mini dress by Moschino Cheap & Chic. That is exactly the vibe the stylist should be aiming at for Blair!

While Blair stayed in NYC Serena, Nate and Chuck went away to LA. I really loved the dynamics they've got going on in this episode –very chilled and grown up. And I am also very much into their styles, which have also relaxed. I also really enjoyed all their New Yorker references to LA, they make it sound like they're in a different country!

Mr Porter

The best dressed guy in the episode is obviously Chuck. You know how much I love his style. And I like it now even more. The tan biker jacket (Ralph Lauren, if I'm not mistaken) and neckerchief give him a kind of vintage air and feels current and rock'n'roll. It reminded me a lot of Leo Dicaprio's style from The Aviator, though his jacket was Belstaff.

What I do not understand is how he is not absolutely roasting in that jacket if it's the summer. But hey, he's not the only guy who sacrifices comfort to look good. A man must have his priorities in order!

I am intrigued to see if he keeps up this cool flair once he's back to New York or if he'll go back to his purple shirts and red ties. In the meantime, he really needs to get that bruise looked at. How can you get one of those and not realise until a day after?

Roger Vivier is relaunching their namesake site and adding an e-store to it. The pictures to the right are a preview of what it will look like. I love the really homey interiors that serve as a background, almost like you're hanging out there sitting on the velvet sofa and looking at accessories.

If a beautiful aesthetic wasn't enough the new website also offers its own fashionable version of the famous Pacman game. Only in this particular case you are a little red Metro bag and you must find all the Miss X collection pieces by picking up all the RV signature buckles without letting the scissors get you! I actually played it a couple of times and it's quite fun!
Also to celebrate the relaunch and as an ongoing feature Roger Vivier will sell 'ultra-limited' edition pieces like the Lunge Psyche Mexico bag in the picture exclusively online. You can even get your hands on any of these things via their also new iPhone app.
What else could we possibly want?!

The Venice Biennale is about to kick off and so all the most stylish fashion insiders and socialites have headed to the city to enjoy yet another dose of fun and sunshine after Cannes.

Last night Roger Vivier and art magazine TAR hosted an event on the rooftop of the Palazzo Brandolini to celebrate the launch of the magazine's 5th issue.

Coco and Bianca Brandolini d'Adda were obviously there (Coco edits the magazine) as were Tatiana Santo Domingo, Eugenie Niarchos and Margherita Missoni, all wearing some of that colourful zig-zag I can never get enough of in the summer.

Also attending were Roger Vivier's creative director, Bruno Frisoni (in the picture with Livia Firth), the always spotless Shala Moroque and Industrie magazine's über-chic Editors-at-Large Alexia Niedzielski and Elizabeth von Guttman.

Gossip Girl finally came back last week after a (ridiculously) long break. Unfortunately, I was out of town for a few days and I couldn't post about last week's episode. The truth is I keep growing bored of the show after each episode. The plot is reaching levels of ludicrousness that even someone who watched The Hills back to back can't stand.

Thankfully, the fashion is just as good as it used to be and that is enough, for now, to keep me entertained for 40 minutes. I love that they have brought back Blair's French prince (everyone knows France is a republic, right?) and her stunning pair of Roger Vivier Maréchale pumps, which inevitably remind me of Carrie's Manolos.

This is the first time in months I have seen someone wearing Marchesa without rolling my eyes. It annoys me how much American celebrities resort to the brand for easy (and original) red carpet looks. However, Serena looks pretty incredible in this short number from FW10. I don't know if it's the light in the show or if the dress is actually a different colour but I like it a lot better than the original either way. It's nice for a change that there's no huge cleavage —the neckline is very Lily but the body-con fit and the trail make it flirty and cool. I also like the fact that she's wearing a 'messy' ponytail rather than her usual boho take on hair that goes with everything but it's just too easy.
