Seeing how happy and radiant Anne Hathaway looks ever since chopping off her brunette locks you would never guess the actress actually sobbed on the day when they cut her hair for her role in 'Les Miserables'. I know women are generally terrified of short hair but to me it means confidence and if it suits you, a short do can be sexier than any long waves.
We have been seeing a lot of Anne and her new hair style for the last few weeks as she's been promoting 'The Dark Knight Rises'. The film finally comes out this Friday and I am tremendously excited to see it. I have this feeling that Anne will make a great Catwoman. Armani has designed the wardrobe for half of the cast, so that's always a plus.
Last night, for the world premiere of the movie in New York, Anne wore a stunning Prabal Gurung gown. It was so nice to see her in something so feminine and summery. I love the simplicity of the shape, the Grecian vibe, the subtle peplum and the crystal detail on the top.
But Anne has been looking her best as of late. Only last week she made an appearance at the Jimmy Fallon show in an amazing gingham number by Stella McCartney. It was almost a childish look but the short skirt and the cut outs on top gave it a sexy edge.

Bestest Dressed of the Weekend: Anne's Oscar-worthy gown

Because I always make the Best Dressed of the Weekend post on Sunday night there is always a risk that I might miss one or two looks between then and Monday morning. Luckily, I came across these pictures of Anne Hathaway before it was too late –I hereby create the 'Bestest Dressed of the Weekend' post.
The Resort 2012 Giambattista Valli black gown Anne (or Rachel Zoe) picked for the US State Department gala could have easily been a perfect look for a non-nominated Oscars attendee. I would actually choose this dress over the vintage Valentino gown Hathaway wore for the last Oscars' ceremony that she hosted.
This look was exquisitely elegant. The tied back hair, the rouge lipstick, finger and toe nails, and the subtle necklace struck all the right chords. And Anne looked so happy. Perhaps she used this occasion to properly celebrate her engagement to Adam Shulman. In any case, a floor length black dress is always good company for a diamond ring.

It's all about Tod's this week, it seems!

Yesterday they announced Anne Hathaway is the new face of their Signature Collection. Even though I don't quite get why Anne is lying on a Ferrari or why the car is even there I do love how she looks on the ad shot by Mert & Marcus and styled by Karl Templer under the creative direction of Fabien Baron.

The collection is called Signature because the leather has been given the texture of Tod's famous pebble motif, which has made their 'gommini' shoes so famous. They come in red, black, electric blue, fuchsia and shades of lavender, beige and cream. It seems like the brand is positioning themselves up there with the likes of Louis Vuitton and Gucci to become iconic.

The collection will be available at Tod's stores form October.

I loved Anne Hathaway's look for her John Stewart appearance. The white Balmain Resort 2012, Elvis t-shirt and black flared trousers were rock and roll and very chic –and had Rachel Zoe's name all over them.

What I liked most about the look were the sunglasses –vintage looking, with a big frame in white not unlike the famous Giles' ones. I have always been very much against white shoes, bags and glasses frames. They're very tricky to make and even harder to pull off. But Anne looked so great in them!

I started to think whether the really big shape could be what makes the shades so chic. Sunglasses have been getting bigger and bigger but in a different way than a few years ago. Lenses are staying the same size and it's the frames that are getting super chunky, which makes their colour and design more noticeable.

This is a trend that I am a lot more in favour. The Olsens have been sporting sunnies like these for years and, of course, launched a few models of the like for the upcoming season of The Row.

I found that Linda Farrow has the best choices, especially in their designer collaboration lines –Peter Pilotto, The Row, Eley Kishimoto, Dries Van Noten.

I'm not posting about Anne Hathaway's look for the White Fairytale Love Ball because I liked it. I thought it was a big mess in the shape of a sparkly meringue. I am more interested on talking about the dress, regardless of how Anne wore it.

If you have watched 'Valentino, the Last Emperor' and, like me, you are fans of the film (documentary-wise it's a lot more honest than 'The September Issue') you might have realised that Anne's dress is the one from Garavani's s/s06 Couture collection over which he throws a fit in the film.
Valentino had intentionally left those gaps between the strips of sparkly ruffles and his team advised him to add a few more because it looked unfinished, with which he disagreed. I tried to find the clip but all I could find an extract in the film's trailer. It only lasts for a couple of seconds from minute 1:05 but it's there.
The dress stayed the way Garavani originally wanted (who would dare to say otherwise) and that's how Anne wore it. And anecdote aside, I just don't see the big deal about the dress. Do you?

Oscars 2011: Less is more

I am rather disappointed with this year's Oscar red carpet looks. I was surprised not only not to find Angelina, Charlize Theron and Diane Kruger amongst the guests but also to see Natalie Portman and Gwyneth Paltrow in very bland dresses. Luckily, one can always count on Cate Blanchett to save the night. She was unarguably the best dressed at the Oscars in an incredible lilac and neon yellow beaded Haute Couture dress fresh of the Givenchy SS11 runway. She always makes such edgy choices that she wears with incredible taste. Number two on my ranking is very unexpected even for myself. Amy Adams chose the right shape of dress with a sexy back slit and covered neckline all covered in L'Wren Scott navy sequins. The choice of colour was perfect for her skin tone (for once) as were the jade, diamond and emerald jewels.

Third on the list is Mila Kunis, who had been building up to this moment. She saved this stunning lilac and nude lace Elie Saab number, which was made grand and occasion-appropriate by the glamourous hair-do and the smoky eyes. I loved everything about her and was happy to see her having such a great moment. And lastly, one of my favourite girls. Michelle Williams has been having some up and downs over the last few months but she made it clear that the only thing a girl needs is some Chanel Haute Couture. I loved how they turned the original dress into a body-con beaded masterpiece and how she relied on a good haircut and light make up.

On a different note, I need to point out Anne Hathaway's style throughout the show. For the red carpet she wore a red Valentino from 2002, when Garavani was still in charge, and even though she looked stunning there was something not quite right, which is why she wasn't on my best dressed list. However, there were two looks she wore during the Oscars that did out her here. The first was a Lanvin tuxedo, which she wore with a ponytail and Ryan Atwood sparkly pumps. And the second was an Amarni Privé number from the Haute Couture SS11 collection. Giulia and I were thrilled she wore it as we had predicted she'd wear it a few weeks before. Who was your favourite?

Collage Sunday, 22.01.11

Last Monday, after the Golden Globes, Iñaki and I were talking about how Rachel Zoe's girls always look a lot more bananas on the red carpet than the rest and how it was a shame no one even mentioned her name during the event. So I thought selected some of her best moments. I tried not to go for the obvious but looks like Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Couture still make me die, so I couldn't skip it. Making the collage I realised Rachel always puts her girls in colours (I mostly only wear white, pink and black) and designs I would have also picked (ruffles, bows sequins and feathers). What are your favourite Zoe moments?

Golden Globes 2011: The year of minimalism

After going to bed at 4am and sleeping scarcely four hours to wake up early and edit pictures I finally give you the Golden Globes 2011 post! I keenly watched the red carpet and the entire show this year not to miss out on any outfits. We know that the Globes are just the warm-up to the Oscars in terms of fashion. Everyone tries to look as effortlessly glamourous as possible, which this year translated on minimalism as the main trend on the red carpet.
My three clear winners of the night were Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone and January Jones. I was thrilled that Rachel Zoe chose the beautifully sequined Armani Privé gown I first fell in love when Karlie Kloss wore it on the catwalk. It was simple yet tremendously sophisticated and very Anne -simply bananas. Emma Stone chose a salmon Calvin Klein Collection that needed no more than light make up, simple hair and a nice clutch. Check, check and check. And January, oh January. I literally gasped for air when I first saw her on the red carpet. Even though she already wore a cocktail version of this dress at Versace's SS11 show I loved the fact that she was channeling Mad Men this time with the hair and the modern take on Hollywood's golden era.

I really liked Claire Dane's pink Calvin Klein Collection. Especially the fold detail on the top. She looked lovely but there was a kind of spark missing. She was still one of the best dressed of the night. Now, Natalie Portman is a tough call. I was horrified when I saw her first but then I sat back and looked more carefully. If anyone could make her Viktor & Rolf dress look refined that's her. I liked that it was quite dramatic, apt for the role she was nominated for, and that it celebrated the woman she's become and the things she's achieved. I also thought the choice of wearing a necklace was a great way to draw a bit of attention away from the baby bump to the neck and balance the look up. And lastly (for now), Leighton Meester in Burberry Prorsum. She always looks so incredibly cool and feminine in anything. I love how she never lets dresses wear her and I particularly liked this one below because it was unexpected and very event-appropriate.

Round Monday

As promised, we are back to business at soVIPzone. Giulia and I have been busy over the last week and we were both lucky enough to catch simultaneous colds, which reached their peak over the weekend, so neither of us could update the blog. Fortunately, we're feeling a little better with the beginning of the week and even though we're still quite busy again we couldn't go another day without a new post.

I can't tell you how happy I was to find so many incredible celebrity pictures this evening when I got home after a long day. Doing my daily website tour I couldn't believe how many of my favourite people had been wearing some of my favourite designers. They have made my Monday night so much better! Jessica Alba wore Valentino (and a kind of First Lady hair-do) at an event in Hollywood and she looked beautiful and elegant. Anne Hathaway melted my heart with a smile (yet again) in a beautiful sequinned Oscar de la Renta dress from SS11 during one of her appearances on the 'Love and other Drugs' press tour. Carey Mulligan slipped into a red Prabal Gurung and looked stunning at the British Independent Film Awards. Vicky Becks delighted us with yet another of her famous airport looks —this time in a Giambattista Valli cape-coat. And my favourite on-screen couple at the moment, Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling, looked as cool as it gets —her in one of my favourite collections, SS11 Erdem, and him in a biker jacket brilliantly accessorised with a paisley-print scarf. What a day!

It's a first

It has taken all this time for someone famous to finally wear one of Burberry Prorsum's shearling coats! I have to admit this has made me anxious for a while because I couldn't understand how, if you can afford them, you wouldn't have one. I have to thank Anne Hathaway (or Rachel Zoe) for this. Jake Gyllenhall and her arrived in London today to promote "Love and other drugs" and Hathaway was clever enough to bring the trendy jacket to our icy city. While I didn't quite agree with the styling choices, particularly the ill-fitting high-waisted jeans, I understand that it must be difficult to find anything that covers the bit from where the jacket ends to where your trousers would normally be. In any case, I love how it gives Anne a kind of après-ski look. Hopefully we'll get to see it in some other outfits during her time in London.

The Princess Diaries

It was only 9 years ago that Anne Hathaway first starred on 'The Princess Diaries' where she played a geeky scruffy girl that found out she was in fact a princess and so she had to be coiffed to fit the part. A story, it seems, not so far from her real personal one as a 19-year-old actress that blossomed into a glamourous and beautiful movie star. Her style transformation became more evident after her famous role as Andrea in 'The Devil wears Prada'. That was, I believe, about the same time when Anne brought Rachel Zoe into the picture. An tandem that resulted in incredible red carpet moments. The latest is this editorial below. Shot by Mario Testino and styled by Tonne Goodman for American Vogue. What I like the most about it is how straightforward it is. There is a beautiful face with classic dresses and jewellery and it simply works because it's just beautiful. There isn't a need for edginess or complex settings or lights. Well, and it's shot by Mario. Pictures like these bring me back to the ground as I realise that there is more to fashion than only looking forward, not matter what Anna might say.

Saturday splendour

I have been holding on to these pictures on my iPhoto (where I only keep my fashion imagery) trying to decide whether I had chosen them because they're sort of a chic version of pin-up or because Anne Hathaway looks ridiculously beautiful and hot in them. In any case I really like the fact that it is just about her —the wonders of GQ— and her body, which has this amazing combination of curvaceous and skinny that I very much like.
It seems Saturday morning is all about good-looking people. I don't know if any of you has ever heard of Brooklyn Decker. She is known for her swimsuit shoots on Sports Illustrated, which is very much a shame considering those unbelievable legs could do wonders for Victoria Secret! I think she lookes stunning in such a simple way —plus and I have a thing for blondes— and I'm really digging that sort of Anna Paquin-esque air she has too.

a night to remember?

I am deeply and utterly uninspired as of late, hence the lack of posts around here. Hopefully, with the imminent arrival of the holidays this situation will change. In the meantime, I could not ignore such an event as the Met Ball. It certainly was an odd night, to say the least. Celebrities swapped roles and some seemed as if they were in those clothes to convince the world once and for all that they are not only tasteless but complete nutters. But some others, the few, lived up to the expectations or were simply pleasant surprises.

I AM IN LOVE... and she doesn't know it.

For those of you thinking "WTF?", I will say: it works on them and it wouldn't on anybody else.

Totally unexpected but extremely successful nonetheless.

It was pretty much a Marc overdose what that night was. I have always said it and I always will: He is overrated.

Talk about tables turning... Blake looks slick and sexy even when the dress is not my cup of tea while Leighton, poor thing, was somehow cheated. I like the print, though.

Simple cuts with colours that work great with their skin tones.

Wait a few years and that photo up there will have another member.

Daria has no need to accessorize with such a cleavage and that pair of jeweled eyes. Unlike our little friend on the right, just don't.

Not like  I was blown away but still, at least it wasn't wacko.

I am speechless before this.

style SALAD

Once again, I felt like fixing up a Sunday salad. I chose some outfits I am quite digging at the moment. I have to admit some celebrities are making an effort when dressing up for the summer weather and it's showing.

Whether you like Rihanna's style it's another thing, but no one can deny it's original in the least. Give it up for the stylist, people. I was glad to see her in some colour a few days ago with the flowery mini skirt and the tight green tank top. It was very refreshing. The other look is from yesterday and she's back in black with tights, blazer and feathers —trendy trends. What really caught me attention from that whole outfit is the bag, military LV anyone?

Next is Katherine Heigl in a very simple dress in a colour I adore and gladiators. I am dying to get a pair myself but while I do she manages to look perfect without overdoing it. Also, I'm fond of that waves in her hair. To her side is Anne Hathaway looking smoking in a trench dress and that sort of messy-on-purpose hair. She looks cute as hell.

Last is my favourite fiction persona lately —Ed Westwick. He's the guy. As if all those preppy outfits from last season of Gossip Girl weren't enough, he's gearing up for the summer in shorts and sailing boats and  argyles in polos and socks.

power GIRLS

I am back with a celebrity post, something I haven't done for a while even though every once in a while one or two show up. As the weather changes the rich and famous search for new ways of looking stylish before the paparazzi while not passing out under the hard LA sun.

My winners of the moment are Heidi Klum and Lauren Conrad. As you may have noticed I am feeling quite fond of colour lately and they have pulled of very simple, colourful outfits. Heidi goes for grey skinny jeans, a white tee with beach-inspired prints in various hues, and purple flats with gold embroidery. If you ask me, the perfect touch are the sharp-cut bangs and the kick-a** orange sunglasses.

As with Lauren, it struck me that she was not wearing a dress or a skirt but red jeans! Hell yeah, girl! I have to say she looks specially hot in those and I thought the v-necked plain white tee was the perfect top for the jeans. Also, I would've never expected those huge red shades à la Kanye West but she rocked them too; and I am so glad she had her hair in a pony-tail, so she stops fixing her bangs every two seconds.

Anne Hathaway leaves me well impressed every time I glance at her candid outfits as of late. This time, however, it is the role in her last film that impressed me, or rather, her looks in it. I have always been a big big fan of though girls with good looks (Buffy TVS, Bond's girls...) and it seems Hathaway has just joined them in my very personal soVIP hall of fame.

Lastly, I wanted to include LiLo because I was enjoying much her looks up until this one when she decided to go back to her old boring self. Coco from Coco's Tea Party already pointed it out on her Hit and Miss of the week but it felt just right to put it out there once again. And, no, I don't like her as a blonde! (Notice the Miu Miu bag, Victoria Beckham wore it first; will it be the it bag of the season?)
