Tod’s launches the ‘Miky’ bag, Jessica Alba is already a fan

It isn't news that celebrities often get to wear the season's hot items before they even hit the stores. But it is always note-worthy to comment on who is wearing what. Jessica Alba is one of my favourite celebrities and it just so happens that she is also a style icon. I am always impressed with how every season she is always one of the first people to wear the nicest bags. She must have an insane collection.
Her latest addition is Tod's 'Miky' bag, which is one of the brand's highlights foe FW12. The bag comes is four different sizes and various materials such as calf leather, crocodile and python. I personally love how subtly but unmistakably Tod's the line is. My favourite is the deep green, perfect for this season's trends. Come to think of it, a men's version in a bigger size would be a perfect travel companion. Here's wishing...

What better way to kick off the Parisian Haute Couture week than with Atelier Versace? The recently revived line has been such a hit lately and, personally, it's one of the HC collections I look forward the most together with Jean Paul Gaultier and Givenchy. Though this season I am, of course, very much looking forward to Raf Simons at Christian Dior!
Versace, which had been so modern and clean in its lines for couture, seems to have returned to its opulent origins. I must admit that even though it's not quite my taste the play on patchwork on the shorter numbers and the sinuous lines of the collection are as beautiful and striking as they are sexy. I also enjoyed the first hint at the Atelier Versace jewellery line that the house launched yesterday as well  – I can't wait to see it in full!
In attendance at the show were such verious guests like Jessica Alba, who rocked a leather and studs Versace LBD number, M.I.A, who would have made Gianni himself proud in her baroque Versace look, and Anna Wintour, who chose to wear FW12 Prada because... she's Anna Wintour. Franca was accompanied by two of my favourite people in fashion, the ever sophisticated Harry and Peter Brant.

What do you make of the collection?

Everybody loves Carven

Everybody loves Carven
JustJared, Getty, MyFashDiary, The Man Repeller
I am sure I haven't been the only one to notice how successful Guillaume Carven's S/S 2012 has been so far. But what I think is most grate about this popularity is the fact that the women that have been wearing his designs are totally different from each other. Beyoncé and her sister Solange did a super sexy take on his blouse and asymmetrical dress while others like Bérénice Bejo, Jessica Alba or Lily Collins went for a more demure look. And even hip trendsetters like Leandra Medine from The Man Repeller and Tala Samman from My Fash Diary find a way to incorporate Carven pieces in their contemporary looks.
Carven quite simply hits all the right notes – classic shapes, contemporary cuts and timeless prints. The S/S 12 collection is one of those lines you and your mother could buy literally in its entirety and both of you would wear each and everyone of the pieces, no doubt.

Below, I have done a selection of my favourite Carven printed summer pieces. Follow the numbers underneath for the links to the products' website.

Best Dressed of the Weekend- It’s all about Jessica Alba!

Best Dressed of the Weekend: It's all about Jessica Alba!
JustJared
I am bending the rules of the Best Dressed of the Weekend post a little. I never published last week's because of the Met Ball so I decided to mix it up – only for Jessica Alba. The actress is so beautiful and cool and is not afraid to try different things.
I can't get over how good her monocolour neutral look is – She mixed a few different shades of nude together with white and an ivory hat. There was something tremendously chic and Italian about it. Super classy.
I was also in love with the more professional look including one of this season's main trends: the printed pant. Alba went for a pair by Tory Burch, which she wore with navy pieces and, of course, a biker jacket.
Her airport looks are as impressive. I really like how she created a relaxed black outfit and added a pop of colour with the red biker jacket. And it's exactly that pop of colour – or POP – that had a hint of Brad Goreski then...
Her subtle orange and blue casual look was of my favourites too. The mix of textures was perfect and I thought the mirror shades and Prada tote added a very fun edge to it, non?
And, of course, there was some evening wear as well. The Narciso Rodriguez dress wouldn't have been my cup of tea were it not for the golden Giuseppe Zanotti pumps she paired it with that made the yellow strokes in the dress pop.

Best Dressed of the Weekend: The Day Looks
JustJared
I always tend to find 'casual' celebrity style a bit more interesting than what they wear on the red carpet. I think it's because it feels somewhat less calculated. This week there is quite a mix of styles in this respect.
Kim Kardashian is looking great lately. I feel like Kanye is giving her advice on what to wear and how to wear it. She's been wearing simpler outfits and looking more... natural. I am loving this all-black look, especially the mixture of textures and the open-front leather boots. The chignon, cat-eye sunnies and the chunky chain necklace add a great rock touch.
Mila Kunis, who I haven't been seeing around for a while, was looking great at CinemaCon. The basic tee and jeans look super chic with the peep-toe pumps and the cropped white tux jacket.
Jessica Alba is always of my favourites on and off the red carpet. She has such a ease to wear things and look young and elegant. This time she wore black cuffed slacks with chic patent leather black pumps, her favourite Prada bag, a sheer black blazer and added a pop of colour (so on trend!) with a muted fluoro top.

Vote for your favourite below!

How to and not to Dress for an über VIP Chanel event

How to and not to Dress for an über VIP Chanel event
JustJared
On Saturday Chanel flew about 200 VIP guests from all over the American geography to the Wynn in Las Vegas to celebrate the opening night of "Numéros Privés: A Journey Through the World of Chanel". This sets quite a landmark in terms of PR because not many fashion companies or brands are pulling off events of this volume lately, not in the last one or two years anyway.
The build up to the event was quite fun as a lot of the attendees tweeted about their trip to Vegas. The coolest, of course, were from Rachel Zoe who flew to sin city with Dree Hemingway (and Rodge) and seemed to be quite overexcited about it.
All guests were decked up in Chanel, most of them head to toe. So this was like a massive celebration of the brand and a way to showcase their PR power rather than your standard store opening/honour dinner event.
Jessica Alba, in a super chic bicolour dress, was my best dressed of the night. The accessories, hair and make up were right on the spot. Second after J was Alexa Chung in a very Alexa-meets-Chanel number, which she accessorised with a Christopher Kane clutch. My big disappointment of the night was Diane Kruger. She normally looks so exquisite but here she looked like a pregnant mess.

Best Dressed of the Weekend- There’s no colour like black
BDOTW14thNOV11
JustJared, Style.com
This weekend was a good one in terms of style. Giulia and I have changed our minds a couple of times until coming up with the final four for the post, which doesn't happen very often. Eventually we got it down to these four ladies won...
1. Dree Hemingway in custom made Christian Dior. I absolutely love this. Dior recreated the iconic gown Marilyn Monroe wore for her last photoshoot with Bern Stern, which Dree wore to the opening of the "Picturing Marilyn" exhibition in New York.
2. Zoe Saldana in Elie Saab. Green has always been my favourite colour. I love this simple but super elegant look. It works great on Zoe's skin tone and it hugs her body without being strictly body-con.
3. Jessica Alba in Armani Privé. She wore this to the opening of the Armani Hotel in Milan. I just love the drop waist silhouette and the original length with the kimono detail at the hem. The top, the makeup and the emerald ring were simply stunning. Can you believe she recently gave birth?
4. Jaime King in Oscar de la Renta. She has the perfect look for an old school Hollywood glamour outfit. The hair and makeup are perfect, as is the slick black velvet Oscar gown.

CFDA Awards’11- The revenge of the Americans
CFDAawards2011
The fashion at the CFDA awards is never ad grand as that of the Met Ball but it's so interesting to see which American designers models and celebrities wear to the event. Last night we saw the usual pretty but plain Calvin Kleins and Michael Kors but also a handful of very stylish and even edgy looks made in America.
My two absolute favourites were Jessica Alba in a custom-made Diane von Furstemberg and Kristen Dunst in Patrick Ervell. I loved Jessica because the colours are very seasonal, the sort of pregnant take on the wrap dress represents the designer and the accessorising adds just the right amount of bling. And Dunst I loved because it was completely unexpected. We've seen so much Chanel with the hair down that we almost forgot what she's capable of. The matching of the nail polish colour and the velvet lapels was exquisite. I was also very keen on the (chavy?) detail of the loops. I can't say why but it works!
Second and third on my list are Miranda Kerr, who I used to hate, in Michael Kors and Karolina Kurkova in a green sequinned Diane von Furstemberg. They were both simple but the side-slit and golden cuffs on Kerr and the hood and Louboutins on Karolina really made them stand out.
The big disappointment of the night were the Olsens, mostly in The Row with a dash of Chanel, LV and Manolos. Ashley's granny look was messy and felt cheap and MK, the better of the two, got the colours and proportions wrong. The only good thing were they The Row bags, which were premiered then. A little Victoria Beckham, no?

JessicaAlbavogueitalia"Vogue Italia is very Italian", that's what I constantly hear people say about the magazine. Something that, to me, is actually a really great thing because Italian style is the only one that has always managed to stay classic throughout decades yet it feels contemporary and relevant every season. Has Miuccia Prada not been one of the most forward-thinking designers in the world for decades now? I always love what Franca Sozzani does for her Vogue and if you include Jessica Alba in lacy masks, Giorgio Armani sequins and black feathers, well, I'm on board. The editorial, shot by Michelangelo di Battista, goes along an interview with Jessica, which I can't wait to read. I always giggle with her good sense of humour (I remember a particularly good one from Interview magazine) and I'm also constantly amazed at how real and down-to earth she seems. Give me a real woman with a Prada fur stole any day!

Best dressed of the weekend: BAFTAs

BDOTW-BAFTAsI was originally planning a bigger BAFTAs edition of the 'Best dressed of the week post' but most attendees didn't try very hard. Emma Watson, in Valentino, looked slightly off with a very old hair style that didn't do her any good. Emma Stone, in that Lanvin Karlie wore, was on the right track but there was a something missing. And everyone else, except Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann, looked either too plain, too slutty or too dressed. Apart from these three ladies below, that is.
Julianne Moore made up from her bad GG look by looking ravishing in a cobalt blue velvet Tom Ford (?). The wavy tied-back hair and the red lips and light makeup were as perfect as the subtle diamond jewellery. Just wait for her Oscars look.
Hailee Steinfeld has been on endless blogs over the last few weeks. Her previous Miu Miu and Prada looks have proved that she knows how to be fashion-forward while staying age-appropriate. Her Miu Miu choice for the BAFTAs was a great evening choice both as a dress and as jewellery, as it needed none. I'd love Hailee to be in a film with Elle Fanning. Think of those press tours...
I was completely oblivious of the fact that Jessica Alba was attending this year's ceremony. She donned one of my favourite SS11 Versace Atelier gowns (from that post where I said how much I'd love Christina Hendricks to wear it that I then had to take down because the pictures had been leaked) and, being completely objective, she outshone all the Brits. Her choice of hair and jewellery perfectly complemented the gown and, well, it's Jessica Alba, she'd look good in a bin bag.
I'm off.

Jessica Alba's über-chic Parisian trip

Jessica Alba is definitely on a roll. I have been keeping a close eye on what she's worn for the last 5 weeks and she has proven that she has a great personal style. Not only her red carpet and party dresses have been excellent choices but her street style is even more spot-on. This week we have seen a lot more from her as she travelled to Paris to attend some of the Haute Couture shows and Paris Vogue's Gucci party. For the latter she donned a sparkly cocktail dress by the Italian house, which looked almost like a big jewell wrapped around her body. This dress would have looked rather slutty on mostly anyone else but Alba makes it look sexy and subtle. The drapey shoulder detail is a great call. I just hope we get some side and back shots to appreciate it fully.
JessicaAlbainParisHCss11
My favourite thing about her style is that she doesn't really wear anything any woman wouldn't. And what I mean by that is you don't see outrageous stilettos and Hervé Légers to go grocery shopping. She loves her black and her leggings and always accompanies them well with a dash of colour. I am particularly keen on her leather-armed parka. Get me one, please.
I'm off.

Best dressed of the weekend

I might or might not make of 'Best dressed of the weekend' a weekly feature on soVIPzone but the fact is that I find celebrities to be better dressed on weekends. Perhaps it's because they let the most personal part of their style breathe through when they are relaxed. This weekend we saw a rather demure (yes, you read correctly) Gaga wearing a Sally LaPointe SS11 dress, which seemed perfect for a woman's wedding day as long as she's actually attending her husband's-to-be funeral. I did, however, really liked the outfit and how the silhouette works great with Gaga. Her hair is also looking phenomenal at the moment. Let's hope she stays like that for another two or three days. Jessica Alba (on whom I've been fixating my eyes a lot lately) made it evident that she doesn't need any designer cocktail dresses and hours of hair and make-up to look incredible. This weekend she slipped into a grandpa cardi, which she wore with leggings and battered brown leather boots. I particularly liked the choice of earrings (despite my odd feelings towards hoops) and of sunglasses. I do believe a big Proenza PS1 would've finished the look quite well, no?
BDOTW09.01.11
Lastly, we have Natalie Portman. I am still hurt that she never called to inform me of her engagement and bun in the oven before I found out online. But that's another story. She attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival wearing a unknown-so-far Vionnet SS11 sort of chemise dress with golden cuffs and neck. Personally, I found the choice not only exquisite on her but also quite apt for the occasion as it looked like what a (tasteful) ice skater or ballet dancer would wear. I am still hoping for THE Rodarte dress... Maybe for her wedding?
I'm off.

Some Alba to end the year

First of, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Giulia and I hope you've had a great few days and that Santa has been as kind to you as, we know, you deserve (you read soVIPzone, after all). We hope that your new leather iPad covers, winter fedoras and fur vests have kept you amused enough for our absence to go unnoticed. Just as we're gathering forces to post are round-up of the year, choose our New Year's ensembles and write down (or list) our resolutions for 2011 we thought we'd make one last regular post on 2010. Jessica Alba has pretty much owned it this year in and out the red carpet. She's as good an actress and she is a mum and she's now adding style icon to the list. She's now on the cover of the Jan/Feb 2011 issue of Harper's Bazaar Australia looking incredible in some Louis Vuitton, which makes us doubt the obsoleteness of Cruise collections. It also sets the mood for the new season, SS11, which we'll soon be getting ready for.

The best PR for the best collection

I am extremely happy to see how after the last London Fashion Week some of my favourite British designers have really raised their PR game. Erdem is the best example of this. They have been doing an extraordinary job not only because we have been seeing their FW10 and SS11 collections non-stop over the past weeks but because the famous faces who have worn their dresses are the most stylish at the moment. Carey Mulligan's long number at the Dubai Film Festival reminded me of one of my favourite Keira moments from last spring, which was unforgettable. As was Michelle Williams' red lace look from the London premiere of Blue Valentine. It was also Michelle who wore another of my preferred dresses from the collection at another Blue Valentine press tour appearance. Less memorable but equally lovely were Lea Michele, Jessica Biel and Anne Hathaway.
nh3r
But yesterday twitter brought my way another Erdem moment that will linger in my mind for a while. Jessica Alba shared a twitpic of herself in one of the brand's SS11 floral skirts and made me die. I like the fact that the skirt is the protagonist of the look and how she looks quite minimal but super stylish. I'm not quite sure what she does when she wears something but it's like magic happens. That's why I keep posting about her on soVIPzone.
Coincidentally, I attended the Starworks press day a while ago where the Swarovsky people were showing some of the London designers they had collaborated with for the SS11 season. Erdem was among them. It was incredible to be able to take a look at the clothes so closely. I loved how the brand's signature floral prints have become digital this season. They give the clothes a more contemporary feel and mixed with the Swarovky crystals and the hand-made collars and lace detailing the garments become feminine with an air of demure romanticism.

Round Monday

PerfectMonday06.12.10As promised, we are back to business at soVIPzone. Giulia and I have been busy over the last week and we were both lucky enough to catch simultaneous colds, which reached their peak over the weekend, so neither of us could update the blog. Fortunately, we're feeling a little better with the beginning of the week and even though we're still quite busy again we couldn't go another day without a new post.
I can't tell you how happy I was to find so many incredible celebrity pictures this evening when I got home after a long day. Doing my daily website tour I couldn't believe how many of my favourite people had been wearing some of my favourite designers. They have made my Monday night so much better! Jessica Alba wore Valentino (and a kind of First Lady hair-do) at an event in Hollywood and she looked beautiful and elegant. Anne Hathaway melted my heart with a smile (yet again) in a beautiful sequinned Oscar de la Renta dress from SS11 during one of her appearances on the 'Love and other Drugs' press tour. Carey Mulligan slipped into a red Prabal Gurung and looked stunning at the British Independent Film Awards. Vicky Becks delighted us with yet another of her famous airport looks —this time in a Giambattista Valli cape-coat. And my favourite on-screen couple at the moment, Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling, looked as cool as it gets —her in one of my favourite collections, SS11 Erdem, and him in a biker jacket brilliantly accessorised with a paisley-print scarf. What a day!

I'm off.

Jessica Alba's stylish weekend

I have been kind of a fan of Jessica Alba for a very long time; ever since she did Dark Angel, to be more exact. Becoming a fan of her style took a bit longer as celebrities need to go through that period of adaptation to fame and red carpets. She finally graduated with honours from the style academy last June when she wore that incredible off-runway Christopher Kane dress. Her dress choices stylishly rocketed from then —she stole the show at the Dior Couture show, took my breath away in Valentino, made Dolce & Gabbana edgy, and injected Balmain with personality. For the last few weeks it had been quiet for her on the red carpet but this weekend she came out to shine again. She first wore another off-runway look, this time from Prada, Rachel Comey for the CNN Heroes event on Saturday. The morning after she enjoyed some family fun at the park in a casual yet extremely chic outfit just a few hours before her stunning polished look in Cushnie et Ochs on the American Music Awards red carpet.
JessicaAlbaNOVweekendBD
I am really glad that there's still stylists out there who pay as much close attention to the hair, make up and accessorising as they do to the dresses. Whoever is styling Alba definitely deserves a standing ovation. Hopefully, there still are a lot more excellent looks like these to come!
I'm off.

ZigZag & Love

I just got back from a fun and (very) warm day in Madrid celebrating my sister's 19th birthday. I didn't think I'd post today but I've had this picture of Jessica Alba in my head all day. She does chic rock and roll so well she should wear Balmain a lot more. I love the fact that the cut is simple and the pattern not too fussy but it still has character because of the pronounced shoulders, the three-quarter sleeve and the sequins. And the length of the hair is perfect as well. Keep it up, please.

The new LOVE magazine is out and its pictures are absolutely flooding the net. The magazine is also one of the biggest books in the business, which means we have pictures for a while. Some of my favourites so far are these of Liv Tyler. It's refreshing to see a different face every so often and the shoot looks somewhat pinup but there is also a little femme fatale vibe to it. I also very much appreciate that one editorial doesn't include either a Prada or a Louis Vuitton dress.

Alba's roller-coasting edge

Just yesterday Giulia and I were ranting about various fashion stuff and saying how we both always make comments like "agh, Diane Kruger in black and white again. Give me a break" and two days later Bosworth is wearing bright prink. Maybe out flats are wired. Or maybe we're simply delusional. Anyway, yesterday we discussed Jessica Alba's amazing Christopher Kane dress for her Jimmy Kimmel interview. We commented on how she's kind of being a little edgier and how much we liked it. And what happened this morning? There pictures of Alba from Genlux magazine were released. The shoot cannot be called edgy per se, it is kind of going away from her usual 'plain-but-pretty' Vogue US looks.
JessicaAlbaGenlux
Apart from the slightly creepy doll theme which I'm quite digging, I absolutely love all the Marni in the editorial. It was one of the top FW10 collections for me and, while I love the fact that we rarely get to see it on paper, I love it when it kind of trickles down to mainstream fashion.
JessicaAlbaGenlux2
In terms of her personal fashion, Jessica Alba is often right and occasionally spot-on but always very inconsistent. There have been some amazing moments in the last few weeks like the one in Proenza Schouler below and the incredible Christopher Kane one I mentioned before.

American heroines

To be quite honest, this post was not what I had in mind when I started preparing it. I was trying to come up for a good reason to put Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba together since they have been glowing in their stylish ensembles during the Tribeca Film Festival.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I tried to come up with a witty reason to explain why 'fantastic three' sounded better than 'fantastic four' but I didn't. So I somehow started to picture them as superheroes. Hudson's Louis Vuitton cape/poncho reminded me of the black wings of Hawkgirl and Jessica Alba has that sort of shy sexiness just like Jane Grey (and shiny dress with pleated skirt, hello?). Even though Gwyneth's outfit seems more ordinary I can picture her as the confident Wonder Woman who wears short shorts and always looks awesome.

a black and RED affair

Fellow fashionistas, happy post-Oscars day! Someone should turn this day into a holiday devoted to fashion lovers to have the time to stop, stare and comment 'till we drop. I am posting early to share with you my favourites from last night.
I have to say I can't decide whether I am surprised or not, I assume the writers guild strike affected even the preparation of the real protagonists of the night —the gowns. Black and red were the clear favourites of the night in an event characterized by sobriety and elegance rather than the striking glamour expected from the awards gala of the year.
I will to try to be kind and skip my endless commentaries, briefly talking about every dress but only treating myself with a little more extension on the big catastrophes of the night.

The winners

I would like to start with the woman I thought best dressed. The fact that I've chosen her as the style winner will prove to those who know me that I am, among other things, quite objective. It should come as not surprise, though, that wearing a Chanel Haute Couture gown specifically made for you plus jewels by Chopard and Jimmy Choo's rocket you to the TOP. Therefore, I crown Penélope Cruz the most beautifully dressed lady of the night. The only flaw? The blah hairdo; that dress was screaming for an up do.

Moving to some of my dear ladies, I was stunned and amazed and moved by Cate Blanchett's  —& Co.— semi-casual Dries Van Noten looked like a piece sent down from the Olympus to be worn with those amazing Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Looks like the pregnant ladies of the moment had a special good taste for the night, for Jessica Alba's Marchesa with Jimmy Choo clutch and shoes were a dream and I am specially thankful to her for injecting the red carpe with a little colour.

I wonder what will be said about Cameron Díaz this time, last year's white Valentino made different opinions arise. To me, she looked stunning in that pale pink Dior.

To finish the list of my favourites, a girl who screwed it up big time last year in a white Valentino (big black bow included)—Anne Hathaway blew me away with the glamour that red Marchesa conferred her.

The catastrophes

I am glad the number of catastrophes decreased this year, although it was not hard to achieve considering the almost unexisting fashion risks that were taken this time. However, XXL snowflake Jennifer Hudson managed to look like a huge mess for the third year in a row in a white Roberto Cavalli with some snake detailing that was probably awful enough even before she stretched it in.

My second and last miss of the gala was Heidi Klum. Some will feel the strong urge to shake and punch me when they read this, but there was something about that red John Galliano with Jimmy Choo's that, although beautiful, made Heidi look like a highly-paid burlesque hooker.

*Look back to soVIPzone last year's Oscar coverage:

What do you think? Who were your favourites? Comment away!
