Best Dressed of the Weekend- Jaime & Diane channel their inner hipster

Best Dressed of the Weekend: Jaime & Diane channel their inner hipster
JustJared
Michelle Williams has decided to go back to the chic almost platinum hair style she sported two years ago before doing 'Blue Valentine' and 'My Week with Marylin' and I couldn't be happier! Michelle is now starring in 'Oz: The Great and Powerful', which I can't wait to watch. This weekend was promoting the film at Comic Con in a 60's inspired Giulietta dress and Giuseppe Zanotti platform heels. I loved the outfit combo but I still give most of the credit to the hair.
It seems every single Hollywood actor was in San Diego this weekend for Comic Con. Jaime King decided to leave her girly girl behind for the day and went all hipster in an oversized black tee, paisley printed jeans and black suede boots. My favourite piece are the The Row sunnies. I must say that while I hope she doesn't stick to this style from now on it was kind of cool to see her in something different.
Diane Kruger also promoted her film 'Farewell, My Queen' (Diane as Marie Antoinette!! watch the trailer here) not at Comic Con but at the French Consulate in LA. She's way chic, as RZ would say. But she was also channeling a bit of a hipster vibe though much slicker than Jaime's. I love the cropped top and baggy trousers and the boho touch of the LV clutch bag.

Best Dressed of the Weekend- Emma Stone tops it off with Chanel

Best Dressed of the Weekend: Emma Stone tops it off with Chanel

It is incredible that Emma Stone has managed to look spotless and different every time during all the stops on her 'The Amazing Spider-Man' press tour, which isn't over yet. This weekend she topped it off with some fresh-off-the-runway Chanel from the Resort'13 collection. It is just perfect for her and I love that she studded Loubs add an edgy touch.
Zoe Saldana has really made me happy casually wearing some Prabal Gurung Resort'12 paired with Miu Miu's Madras bag. It's just so chic to wear them with ragged denim shorts and flats! But of course, she learnt from experience that Prabal is always a good choice.
Diane Kruger is unstoppable. Do you think she even looks much worse when she rolls out of bed? I don't! This weekend she made an appearance at the Berluti dinner in Paris wearing a sailor-inspired dress and my favourite Givenchy sandals.
I have always thought of Sofia Coppola as a stylish woman but I don't necessarily always like what she wears. I also don't usually love Marc Jacobs but somehow the combination of the two works great here. I love the bee-vibe of the MJ Resort'13 dress. It's a relaxed look but it sure makes a statement.

Best Dressed of the Weekend- Sonam Kapoor & Diane Kruger kill it!

Best Dressed of the Weekend: Sonam Kapoor & Diane Kruger kill it!

The Cannes Film Festival closed last night with the premiere of 'Therese Desqueyroux'. I was hoping that Diane Kruger, who has totally killed it day after day this year, would have a finale dress worth waiting for. And I wasn't disappointed – she wore a stunning Christian Dior Couture dress. I loved the fact that she wore it with the panniers, which give it a bit of 18th century drama.
My other favourite, who I didn't expect to see in Cannes this year, was Sonam Kapoor. I have been a big fan of her style for a while now. There is a certain Je-ne-sais-quoi in the way she wears clothes that I simply adore. Yesterday she rocked two dresses. First, a Pre-Fall'12 Alexander McQueen that she wore with a super flattering hairdo and beautiful make up. And later she slipped into a hot red velvet Dolce & Gabbana with matching shoes and a beaded hairband intertwined in her braid. Looking at her is like being transported to a glamorous time of elegant flamboyance.

I didn't want to do a poll this week because it would break my heart to choose between my two ladies but feel free to choose your favourite in the comments section below!

Best Dressed at the amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS Gala 2012

The amfAR Gala during the Cannes film festival bring out every year all the most stylish actors, models and editors. I would say it is, arguably, much better or at least edgier than the Met Ball and this year has been a great one.
My absolute favourite was, of course, Diane Kruger. She wore one of the Chanel Cruise 2013 designs that went down the catwalk just over a week ago. Diane's ben getting it right every day at Cannes and this is a great stand-out chic look. I was also happy to see Doutzen Kroes at the event. I've been crazy about her ever since I saw her at the Giles FW12 show. She looked amazing in a modern Versace gown. Karolina Kurkova, not happy with being one of the best dressed at this year's Met Ball, had another golden moment in Roberto Cavalli. Simply stunning. Milla Jovovich, who has had both hits and misses in the last couple of days at Cannes, made up for all her mistakes in one of the best pieces from the Atelier Versace SS12 collection.
Anja Rubik has found in the last years the perfect balance between looking ultra sexy and sophisticated. I am loving this Emilio Pucci moment – the pulled-back hair, the smoky eyes, the emerald and diamond jewellery were all great choices. Magdalena Frackowiak wore embellishments, leopard print and feathers all in one dress by Roberto Cavalli. And I just loved how elegant she looked in it. Bianca Balti went for grey, which is not a colour we see very often on the red carpet. But I loved the contrast of the lighter shade of the lace and the darker silk – by Dolce & Gabbana, of course. Jessie J, who I was quite shocked to see in Cannes, went for a leopard print Louis Heal dress. I thought it was quite a refined chic choice, especially for her. And I love the fact that she stayed true to her own style wearing chunky boots

Diane Kruger wears Giambattista Valli & Versus in Cannes

I am such a huge fan of Cannes Film Festival. As far as cinema-related festivities go this is definitely my favourite over the Oscars and the Golden Globes. Everything is just unmatchably unrivalled in the Côte d'Azur. This year's edition of the festival opened yesterday with the premiere of Wes Anderson's "Moonlight Kingdom", which I can't wait to see, and the traditional morning photo calls and evening red carpets.

Who better to kick things off that queen of chic and elegance Diane Kruger? We are only on day one and she has already raised the bar a lot for the ladies coming after her. However, I will not speak too soon because last year's greatest hit by Armani Privé came towards the end of the festival.
For the day photo call press event Diane wore a burgundy Versus dress with a pleated skirt and strappy side details. It was a super chic moment, which was made even better by the Jimmy Choo Sandals she wore. I loved the mirroring effect of the gaps in the shoes and the sides of the dress.
For the red carpet in the evening she slipped into a Giambattista Valli Couture gown in a stunning shade of aquamarine. I don't know whether it's the fact that she's German so there is something cold and mysterious about her but she adds a Je-ne-sais-quoi to everything she wears that I love.

One of my favourite things about Cannes is the fact that they do these super fun pictures from the back – roll over the images to see these shots.

Met Ball 2012- The Best Dressed, My top 5

I was so excited to be able to watch the Met Ball red carpet live online! It was a brilliant and very intertaining experience thanks to the shouting photographers. It's been hard to cut it down to a top 5 (there will be a part 2 coming up later today) but these are my favourites this year.
Gwyneth Paltrow wore a short Prada, which I love not only because she looked incredibly hot and radiant in it but because a super short number is always daring for an evening occasion like this. I appreciate her courage.
Some of the same goes for Kate Bosworth who also wore Prada. What's interesting is this ombré feather dress would have looked very plain on anyone else but Kate choice of hair and make up give it a slick and slightly 20's vibe that was super sophisticated.
I was absolutely in love with Karolina Kurkova in Rachel Zoe. It's the first time Rach has taken a model date in her design and what a way to kick it off! It was like being transported to the Hollywood of the 50's. It was such a glamorous look and so different from everyone else.
I can't even say how happy I was to see Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Burberry. The stripped gown with long sleeves and the embellished neckline was so elegant. It is amazing to think how innovative the materials that Christopher Bailey uses are and how they can work so well with a Sofia Loren hairdo. Stunning.
Diane Kruger was also one of the bravest girls of the night. Her purple Prada gown played with the combination of black tie and casual clothing. I just loved the effect of the low strappy top as it transforms into a tray finishing off with feathers. She is incredible.

Best Dressed of the Weekend- A double dose of Olsen-ness

Best Dressed of the Weekend: A double dose of Olsen-ness
JustJared
It seems like this weekend no one in Hollywood could stay indoors and so I have actually have to edit out my options of Best Dressed of the Weekend from quite a few options. I have been quite impressed with Elizabeth Banks' red carpet looks for her Hunger Games press tour. However, none of her looks were quite part of the weekend, alas...
Fortunately, both Ashley and her young sis Elizabeth were out this weekend, which more than made up for it. Ash, who we haven't seen a lot in the last few months, looked amazing in a very understated look with a black turtle neck jumper, a classic camel coat by The Row and Aquazzura heels.
Elizabeth Olsen has one of my favourite airport styles at the moment. Unlike most celebs she doesn't go for leather jackets and layers of black. I love her blue suede brogues, which she's been wearing quite a bit lately. The whole colour palette of her look is super chic and I am loving the cropped trousers that are just right.
And lastly, Diane Kruger at the reopening of the St. Regis Bal Harbour resort in Miami. Diane wore Jason Wu FW12, which was one of my favourite collections from NYFW.

Lizzy Olsen, Rosie HW & Diane kill it at the Vanity Fair party
JustJared
Every year after the Oscars I go to bed happy that my post is ready to go for a few hours later (I went to bed at 7am this morning) not realising that I will wake up in the middle of the day to an endless list of all the celebrities that attend the after parties. It would be pointless for me to try and choose all the ones that I liked because, truth to be told, everyone has really made an effort this year!
I really missed Elizabeth Olsen and Diane Kruger on the red carpet. Lizzy should have totally been nominated for her role in 'Martha Marcy May Marlene' and she would have given us one of those moments like Zoe Saldana in Givenchy that we will never forget. Instead, she looked exquisitely chic in Christian Dior at the Vanity Fair party. Diane Kruger I missed only because of her fashion sense. The woman has this ability to wear anything and look like it's been custom made by Coco Chanel herself. I was pleasantly surprised by her party look – a sexy Calvin Klein Collection number. This is a bit unlike her, which is why it works. The lace on the top makes the dress and adds a sexy edge that kind of reminds me of Julia Restoin-Roitfeld.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley continues to look incredible, this time in (J'adore!) a spring Antonio Berardi dress that does all the right things to her body. I always love Rosie in red!

Best Dressed of the Weekend- Three top grades!
BDOTW30Jan
Best Dressed of the Weekend: Three top grades!
JustJared
This week I had no doubts about the chosen women for Best Dressed of the Weekend. Click here to have a look at the other three runner-ups for this week.
Diane Kruger in Erdem is, by miles, one of the best looks I have seen on a celebrity in a long time. It was exquisite and delicate, sexy and very classy. She gets this week's number one. And I do hope to see more celebs in Erdem's SS12 pieces, everything was simply stunning!
I am a huge Meryl Streep fan and I have been for years so I am thrilled to see her still at the top of her game and looking so radiant! I can't wait to see what she chooses to wear to this year's Oscar (she has to win!). For the moment I am happy to see her making unexpected choices like this Cacharel number from the FW1 collection. Mila Kunis wore a similar dress from the same line a few months ago, which makes Meryl even cooler.
Blake Lively is the third to get a top grade this week. Her Jason Wu look to celebrate the launch of the designer's collaboration with Target was a great fit. Just like I said last week re. the latest GG episode, her hair is looking great like this and the light coral of the lipstick and the earrings makes her glow. The peplum is super chic and I love the subtlety of the embroidered details on the skirt.

How to and not to Dress for an über VIP Chanel event
ChanelVegasJan12
How to and not to Dress for an über VIP Chanel event
JustJared
On Saturday Chanel flew about 200 VIP guests from all over the American geography to the Wynn in Las Vegas to celebrate the opening night of "Numéros Privés: A Journey Through the World of Chanel". This sets quite a landmark in terms of PR because not many fashion companies or brands are pulling off events of this volume lately, not in the last one or two years anyway.
The build up to the event was quite fun as a lot of the attendees tweeted about their trip to Vegas. The coolest, of course, were from Rachel Zoe who flew to sin city with Dree Hemingway (and Rodge) and seemed to be quite overexcited about it.
All guests were decked up in Chanel, most of them head to toe. So this was like a massive celebration of the brand and a way to showcase their PR power rather than your standard store opening/honour dinner event.
Jessica Alba, in a super chic bicolour dress, was my best dressed of the night. The accessories, hair and make up were right on the spot. Second after J was Alexa Chung in a very Alexa-meets-Chanel number, which she accessorised with a Christopher Kane clutch. My big disappointment of the night was Diane Kruger. She normally looks so exquisite but here she looked like a pregnant mess.

Best Dressed of the Weekend- It’s a Double Decker!
BDOTW12Dec11
Best Dressed of the Weekend: It's a Double Decker!
JustJared, Style.com
This weekend my absolute favourite was Brooklyn Decker. First, for the UNICEF Ball in New York City, in the aquamarine SS12 Tory Burch. I love the braided hair, which complemented the Greek feel of the dress. This is a perfect example of how a drop-waist dress can make a night gown look so easy to pull off. The touch of the neon orange Jimmy Choos was also a great call! Her second look, a super short Nah Khanh, was so different. What I like about this one is how, despite of the shortness of the dress, she looks so classy and natural. I love the hair do and the pop of colour that the fuchsia lipstick and the yellow stilettos bring to it.
Diane Kruger, who keeps on surprising me by not wearing white Chanel gowns, also looked stunning this weekend in this black Emilio Pucci. I love how she makes everything look like couture. I love subtle the textures of the dress, the nude Bottega clutch and the shyly hidden red satin shoes. I am not so keen on the hair but it's a great look anyway.
And lastly, Joan Smalls at the Pirelli calendar party. I haven't been able to id the dress but I am loving it. It's so simple the the two sort of panels that hang over the top front make it chic and interesting. My favourite part of the look has to be the side braid and the gold ethnic earrings.

It's always nice to see celebrities keeping it chic and simple when it comes to day-to-day style. I have been a fan of Diane Kruger's style on and off the red carpet for as long as I can remember –you can't really go wrong with a Chanel muse and Lagerfeld protégé. And this look only confirms my keenness.
Diane was spotted this week out and about in LA –where it's never freezing and grey like right now in London– in a pair of grey skinny jeans, a boyfriend white shirt casually tucked in, an oversized double-breasted cardi and a pair of tan leather tasselled loafers. She added a perfect high-end touch, of course, with her 'cameo and talco' saffiano lux bag from the Prada FW11 collection. I love classic lines of the bag and the combination of the pale pink shade of the bag with the grey jeans and the beige cardigan. It's one of those combos you can't really go wrong with.
I thought this was the perfect inspiration for a relaxed weekend look for those of you who want to stay stylish without trying too hard after a long week at work.

Zoe Saldana & Diane Kruger kill it in Prabal Gurung
PrabalGurungZOEDIANE

When I choose the celebrity images that I use on the blog I usually simply save them onto my computer if something catches my attention about the dress or the general look. And once I've done my round of websites I go through them again to pick out my favourites.
Well, in the last few weeks there have been quite a few looks picked like this signed by Prabal Gurung. His Resort 2012 collection was exquisite –lots of bold colour blocking and prints, I especially liked the polka dots. And he is also responsible for two of my favourite looks of the weekend.
Zoe Saldana attended an event in one of the stunning silk colour-blocking numbers from the Resort collection. Earlier in the weekend, it was Diane Kruger who also went for a Prabal Gurung. This one, from the FW11 collection, was very her. A very 30's sequin dress down to the knee with a three-quarter sleeve. I loved how the sequins seemed to drip from her body. It was exquisite.
I can't wait to see what he does for SS12.

Are you a Prabal Gurung fan?

TITLEMET2011
MG1
It has been an intense weekend for the fashion world. First it was the Royal Wedding on Friday and last night the fashion equivalent of the Oscars (or the red carpet anyway), the Met Gala, took over New York City. This year they celebrated the opening of the "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" exhibition.
This year I expected a lot of dramatic gowns with big trains and also a lot of feathers. And I was right to do so, at least the first part. Despite Daphne Guiness' big feather McQueen number (she always looks so great it's hard to be surprised anymore) and Sarah Jessica Parker's chic number also by the designer I would have to say it was Giselle Bünchen who wore the brand best. The tight body and pleated big skirt made this a moment we hadn't seen since the old Valentino days.
My other favourite was Diane Kruger in Jason Wu. She is one of the chicest women in Hollywood and it's a pleasure to see her wearing something that's not white or Chanel. The embellished top made jewellery unnecessary and the mad side slit on the skirt adds a sexy edge balanced by the long sleeves.

[JustJared, Style.com, Zimbio.com]
MG4
Funnily enough, it is at these kinds of events that fashion insiders get less attention because of all of the celebrity attendees. That is why it's hard to even find nice pictures of them to post.
Lily Donaldson, in Erdem, and Mariacarla Boscono, in Givenchy HC, looked ravishing. I always say no one can compete with a model in terms of fashion. I love the fact that they know how much see-through they can get away with and they take advantage of that. Lily looked very classy in the navy lace, a perfect look to go with her new marital status. And Mariacarla channeled Morticia Adams for the hair and make-up adding that big of Goth that Tisci loves in his clothes.
Giovanna Battaglia, NYC's newest neighbour, wore Marni to accompany Consuelo Castiglioni. I am in awe of this glamourous 60's look. You know I adore both her and the brand and every time the two get mixed they achieve perfection.
MG2

I don't care what people say about Anna Wintour, I think she's got great taste. Year after year she slips and yet another incredible Chanel HC dress, which is what she deserves to wear. I found this year's number quite cool for Anna, though. The colours and the art deco feel of the sequins made it a youthful look that really suited her. And I loved the fact that she added diamonds into the mix anyway.
I might've not liked Blake Lively's Chanel as much if I hadn't been bracing myself for a big disappointment. I have to admit she looked stunning and must've made Kaiser Karl very proud. I still haven't seen her carrying one of those fugly Mademoiselle handbags she advertises, though.
I guess people just invite Thandie Newton because she always looks great. I absolutely loved the way her Stella McCartney dress played with the sheerness of the pleated skirt, the black lace and the nude touch of the underskirt.
MG3

Less dramatic or surprising but beautiful nonetheless were Gwyneth Paltrow, in a bejewelled Stella McCartney, Miranda Kerr in Marchesa and Zoe Saldana in Calvin Klein Collection.
I am especially shocked by how much into Miranda's look I am. There is something so obviously Black Swan about the dress (Mila Kunis would've looked amazing in this) but the fact that she wore the Nicholas Kirkwood lace-ups makes everything interesting. It's the red carpet equivalent of someone wearing a tutu skirt with converse, just genius!

Giambattista's boutique opening

I still remember how Giulia jumped up and down (literally but in a classy way) when she first heard Giambattista Valli was opening his first store ever in Paris at the beginning of the year. She loves his clothes to the point of madness. And so does the rest of the world. He has an exquisite eye to create modern shapes reminiscent of the golden eras of fashion to make a woman feel and look beautiful. Even even more so if the woman is already stunning as it is. That's the case of Diane Kruger (not in Chanel, for once), Lapo Elkann's ex (who he didn't deserve anyway) Bianca Brandolini and Industrie's über-chic Editor-at-Large Elizabeth von Guttman. They all went out to celebrate the store opening at the Rue Royale, which coincided with the designer's collaboration line with Longchamp sold exclusively at the new boutique.
GVpartyJan11
In case you don't remember (I doubt you don't) here is the SS11 collection. Not Giulia's or my favourite because he tried to do the same kind of minimalistic thing everyone was doing. But it improves about halfway through when the leopard comes into scene. (Sorry about the quality, couldn't find the full show better).

I'm off.

I've got the biggest Chanel bag!

Big (or huge) bags started becoming a trend many seasons ago. They spread out so quickly and efficiently they are now not only a must-have but pretty much an essential that's present in most women's accessories array. During this time there was a brand which stood out the most not only because of the amazing design but because of the astonishing size he gave the bags. Who else but Karl Lagerfeld would have first brought out a traveling-bag-size croc shopping back? And who else would've continued producing an even bigger patent leather tote and quilted oversized version of the iconic 2.55? I was surfing the web today and came across a picture of Ashlee Simpson carrying a humongous Chanel vintage bag, which reminded me of my friend Tala's (from MyFashDiary) and its older sisters carried by Ashley Olsen and Diane Kruger (for the brand's advert).

What are your thoughts on massive bags? Do you like something halfway or are you a clutch kind of girl?

Look ahead and be bold

You know how much I love when people wear clothes way ahead of season. I have tried to refrain from bombarding you with posts of celebrities wearing SS11 looks that haven't even finished being produced to hit the stores in the spring but this was too good to resist. On Monday night, Diane Kruger and Gwyneth Paltrow attended an ELLE event in Beverly Hills and, as Francisco Costa's muses, they both donned Calvin Klein Collection. And not only both their dresses are from the SS11 line but the two looks weren't even in the catwalk show. If you remember the CK show you'll know that apart from a lot of white, some black and the odd blue there was only one bright-coloured dress that kind of resembles Kruger's. I'm a big fan of the looks that designers create outside the runway as more "commercial" pieces, which real people will be more likely to wear. And I particularly like the two cocktail dresses below because there is nothing better than a strong shape (that suits your body and personality) and a good colour (that compliments your hair and skin tone). Not to mention how bang-on future trend they are.

shutting (it) down at Cannes

After almost two full weeks of never-ending premiers and their subsequent red carpets and parties the 2010 Cannes film festival has wrapped up. This year we have seen the unexpected style change of Kate Beckinsale (Coco's Tea Party explains it best) as well as other amazing fashion moments that I have religiously reported here. The closing ceremony, far from being boring clothes-wise, delivered some looks I did not see coming.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
First of all, Beckinsale (who did not wear a white Marchesa) totally looked the part in a Nina Ricci from the FW10 collection that mixed layers of fabric with bits of lace and see-through material. She was desperately asking for that little bit of edge. Kristen Dunst went for a bright turquoise Chanel Cruise 2011 dress fresh from the catwalk. It is not a colour we normally see at this kind of events but I very much loved it, as I did the simple but interesting design. I did hate her shoes the hem of the dress, which looked lovely from the side but odd from the front. Diane Kruger joined the colour club for the evening, for which Giulia and I will be eternally grateful as we're tired of her black and white Chanel. Instead, she donned a fuchsia Jason Wu with dropped from a beautiful black bustier with lace and sequins.
All in all,  this was a very amusing year in terms of fashion. I am so intrigued about Beckinsale and whether she'll keep up the good work or go back to her old tricks. What do you think?
I'm off.
