Everybody loves Carven

I am sure I haven't been the only one to notice how successful Guillaume Carven's S/S 2012 has been so far. But what I think is most grate about this popularity is the fact that the women that have been wearing his designs are totally different from each other. Beyoncé and her sister Solange did a super sexy take on his blouse and asymmetrical dress while others like Bérénice Bejo, Jessica Alba or Lily Collins went for a more demure look. And even hip trendsetters like Leandra Medine from The Man Repeller and Tala Samman from My Fash Diary find a way to incorporate Carven pieces in their contemporary looks.
Carven quite simply hits all the right notes – classic shapes, contemporary cuts and timeless prints. The S/S 12 collection is one of those lines you and your mother could buy literally in its entirety and both of you would wear each and everyone of the pieces, no doubt.

Below, I have done a selection of my favourite Carven printed summer pieces. Follow the numbers underneath for the links to the products' website.

Best Dressed of the Weekend- Jennifer Aniston shines in Burberry

Best Dressed of the Weekend: Jennifer Aniston shines in Burberry

It hasn't been a particularly exciting weekend in terms of fashion. Thankfully, you can always count on people like Beyoncé and Jennifer Aniston to keep things interesting.
Queen B, who looks like she never carried a baby a few weeks ago, seems to have been taking fashion tips from her sister Solange. She looked incredible in a Surface to Air yellow short suit, which she paired with an also yellow tee, a McQueen clutch and this season's Prada turbo heels.
Jennifer Aniston attended the American Film Institute Gala honouring Shirley Maclaine in a stunning  white crepe evening dress with cutaway back by Burberry. She is looking better than ever, like she's glowing!
Malin Akerman, who already made it into a BDOTW list back in April, is currently on her press tour for 'Rock of Ages'. She is beginning to wear slightly more interesting things but there is still a long way to go. Last night, she slipped into a really nice Marchesa dress for the London premiere of the film. I can't say that I am in love with the dress but there was something interesting about this look. Perhaps it was he fact that it was monochrome, which looks nice with her blonde hair and the pop of colour of the red lips.

Best Dressed of the Weekend- Girls in the Knowles
BDOTW2Apr
Best Dressed of the Weekend: Girls in the Knowles
JustJared
Summer is coming and we are all getting excited so it's been a great weekend of celebrity spottings in their Spring attire.
Beyoncé, who has been looking incredible lately, was caught en route to meetings in New York wearing one of Etro's funky maxi skirts. I love the mix of prints and how the long-sleeve fuchsia top gives it a city vibe. B accessorised it with her favourite black hat, massive hoops and The Row sunglasses we have seen her wear recently.
Rosie H-W is my current queen of airport chic. I am forever amazed with her looks touring the world. This one of black skinny jeans, suede ankle boots, a simple grey tee and a killer camel biker jacket is amongst my favourites. And I'm loving the shades and the pop of colour of the green suede bag.
Solange Knowles' look is probably some of the coolest print mixing I've seen. So subtle and so chic. I just can't think of anything better suited to be worn to a casual cocktail party on a New York spring evening.
Rihanna has been in London for a few days just in time for our week-long spring. She has very well taken advantage of it wearing looks like this bang-on-trend Stella McCartney two-piece. I love the pajama feel, the super chic sandals and the statement sunnies.

Beyoncé & Ivy Blue stroll in New York: Get the Look!
JustJared
Over the last few weeks Beyoncé has been in quite a few posts around here most of which have been lists of best dressed. I really love what she has been doing with her look. There is a sort of 'diva' essence that is always there but she is not afraid of trying new things, which is what makes her so unique.
I was afraid that once she got pregnant we would only see a series of repeatedly slouchy and uninteresting black outfits over and over again but it turns out she has got even more interesting. Proof of it is her latest outfit, which she wore to go for a stroll with mum Tina and baby Blue Ivy.
The look is all about the bold but chic print of the Easton Pearson trousers, which make the statement. Everything else is black but so rightly so. I love the The Row x Linda Farrow round sunglasses, which are so on trend and make the look so slick. The wide-brimmed hat and the black loafers (not unlike these Church's brogues) give a boho chic touch. And the oversized gold hoops make it all a bit sexier. My favourite detail is the bottle holder by Roberto Cavalli. Blue Ivy sure is on for a bright future as a fashionista.

What do you think of B's momma look?

Blake & Beyoncé lighten up their winter with Burberry Prorsum

Blake & Beyoncé lighten up their winter with Burberry Prorsum

I am a big fan of winter and I'd choose a mountain retreat over a sizzling beach any day of the week. I have a lot of fun getting dressed in the winter because you have to wear so many layers it's hardly a huge effort keep your looks interesting.
Over the years I've realised that not many people agree with me. I guess that's why half of the world chooses to wear depressing dark outfits under dark coats paired with dark shoes for winter. I, on the contrary, wear a lot of colour during the winter and prefer more muted hues for the summer.
And this is why I was happy to find these pictures of Beyoncé and Blake Lively keeping it cheerful with a dash of colour this winter. Queen B paired with her simple outfit with a raffia bowling bag by Burberry Prorsum. I just love the colours because they could be worn in the summer but they work just great with a cozy jumper and boots. The other B (or S, depending on how you want to see it) wore the amazing wooden embellished olive trench coat from the Burberry Prorsum SS12 collection to the Grand Central Apple Store opening. The great thing about this is that the coat does all the work –it keeps her warm, it's casual but special enough to make a statement and, well, no one has worn it yet!
If this were to be an equation it would be B + (B + B) = Success!

Beyoncé wears Swarovski encrusted looks by Ralph & Russo

If you live in the UK you most surely spent last Sunday night staring at your TV without blinking. 'A Night with Beyoncé' literally stopped the nation for just over an hour. If you think the X Factor makes Twitter go mad you should have been online during Beyoncé's incredible show.
Queen B kicked off the show walking through the crowd in a nude mesh bodysuit covered in Swarovski crystals. I instantly started going through my mental database of this season's collections to see if I could identify the look but I wasn't successful. It was an incredibly body-con outfit that only B could have pulled off. She looked bananas in it!
The same thing happened with the even more spectacular look Beyoncé slipped into for the 'Single Ladies' finale –a super short red leather skirt with a trail paired with a bronze metallic cut out corset embellished with thousands of Swarovski crystals. Again, a daring outfit only B could carry off.

Hard as I've tried, I haven't been able to find you a youtube link to these videos. In the meantime, take a look at the trailer. UPDATED: You can watch the whole show here.

Best Dressed of the Weekend- Blonde quiffs and bold colours
BDOTW21nov11
JustJared
I thought I had the four best dressed women of the weekend last night but I completely changed my mind this morning. These are the ladies who got it right this week.
1. Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann. Both Giulia and I are obsessed with the designer and his latest collections and nothing can make me happier than seeing Tilda wear so much of it. If only let her hair down and worn a different pair of shoes this would be a perfect look.
2. Nicole Richie in Halston. Nicole always dresses very nicely but she's been a little boring as of late. I love this matte sequin number with the gathered waist and the splashes of red. And she accessorised it so well too!
3. Beyoncé in Roberto Cavalli. Only Queen B can make Cavalli classy. The shape is simple but very sexy and it accentuates her bump in a chic way. I love the gold detailing on the sides and the big chunky hoops but I'm not a fan of the bracelets over the sleeves.
4. Kate Winslet in Stella McCartney. Even though she's worn a very similar dress before I am still into this look. Red and body-con require a lot of courage but Kate pulls it off in such a classy (and sexy) way.

Beyoncé’s fashion-filled ‘Party’ video
BeyoncePartyvideo1
There was a bit of buzz this morning in the office as some of the die-hard Beyoncé fans watched the new 'Play' Beyoncé video. I've always been keen on Queen B but being around these people every day has definitely made me pay more attention.

You know how much I love some current high fashion on a music video so it's no surprise that I'm posting about this. I love the mix of high and low and the styling of all the rest of the cast including B's sister Solange and of Kelly Rowland.
After watching it a couple of times to do the screen caps I noticed a few of the shots were very similar to the editorial by Sharif Hamza that Beyoncé did for the Dazed & Confused July11 issue. This made me wonder whether this video was shot quite a few months ago (B doesn't look preggers at all), which would explain the abundance of SS11 and FW11 pieces that would have been a lot more new then.

In any case, it's a really amazing fun video –you can watch it here– and the great styling only makes it better!

Beyoncé launches ‘House of Dereon’ at LFW
HouseofDereonSS12

Last Saturday I was lucky enough to be invited to the show that Beyoncé and her mother Tina Knowles to present their first collection for 'House of Dereon'.
At first, when my friend told me about the event I didn't have much idea of what exactly I was going to. We walked into Selfridge's parking lot, which had been transformed into an all-black runway space surrounded by huge screens.
The wait, of about an hour, was worth it. The collection's main influence was Africa, as homage to Beyoncé's roots. The feathers, animal prints and tribal patterns and makeup that gave live to the collection contrasted with the very short dresses and skirts or street wear tops usually seen on the New York runways. It was a very Beyoncé clothing line, a cultural crossroads that brought together her two main influences. She ticked all the right boxes for summer clothing: printed jumpsuits and playsuits, sheer skirts, simpler but sexy mini dresses for the night, and heaps of loose tops black basics.
The models walked down the runway to the beat of a remix of 'Run the World (Girls)', of course. I was hoping for  an impromptu chorus by Queen B but there was no luck. And yet, I can't complain because I had the pleasure of sitting front row rubbing shoulders with Hamish Bowles.

Best dressed of the weekend- VMAs Edition
VMAs11a
JustJared
This year's VMAs red carpet has been a little on the low side in terms of fashion –these are my favourite looks.
Beyoncé's pregnancy announcement has kind of overshadowed the show itself, which us UK residents will be able to watch on MTV from 8pm. Queen B looked incredibly beautiful in an asymmetric Lanvin dress. I loved how the hair was perfect for it and her huge emerald bracelet cuff was the best way to finish up the look. She later performed in a Dolce & Gabbana tux, also looking stunning!
Katie Holmes, who has been out of best dressed lists for a while, is my second best dressed. It's no secret that an Alaïa dress is the most effortless way of looking sexy and chic. I really liked Katie's hair and I actually thought her shoe choice made the look very interesting!
Zoe Saldana wasn't at her best last night but she still looked better than most attendees in her Barbara Bui dress. I loved that she paired it up with snakeskin wedges. It was a simple and chic summery look.
Britney, who was paid tribute last night, also looked amazing on her own way. She wore a Moschino romper/playsuit with a zig-zag sequin pattern layered with chiffon. It was really mini and pretty see-through, so still quite Britney but more demure than what we're used to. Never mind the shoes!

The best September Issues of 2011
0UXmPx on Make A Gif, Animated Gifs
Courtesy of Harper's Bazaar España, TFS, Models.com
Since I sort of missed the opportunity to stop and comment on each of my favourite September 2011 covers I thought I would do a roundup (and a gif).
It would be fair to say that, Vogue Paris aside, my absolute favourite is W's cover with Kristen Stewart by Mert & Marcus. It's such a different look for her –soft and girly, very pin-up– and it works so well. I love the over-the-top cat-eye makeup, the big hair and the balanced layout.
I wouldn't say that Kate Moss by Mario Testino for US Vogue has lived up to my expectations but it's still great cover. I really like the pose –a good change from Vogue's usual boring close-up crops. The purple McQueen on Kate looks incredible and is in the line of her boho-Medieval wedding style.
It's crazy to think Harper's Bazaar España has only been around for a year. They are rocking the magazine scene in Spain. Constance Jablonski looks fierce in Dsquared2 and I love the twist of her holding onto the Z.
Beyoncé's UK Harper's Bazaar and Katie Fogarty's Vogue Australia's covers are neck and neck. The cover photography is definitely September-issue worthy. They're both straight up and don't try to hard, which I appreciate.
And lastly, Flare, which I already posted a few days ago but I thought it deserved another, bigger, mention. I am struggling to get a hold of a copy in London but I will
keep trying!

smoke gets in your eyes

Whatever the newspaper covers say, I don't care too much for Gaga smooching a girl in the lips, taping her bosom or forgetting her knickers at home. I do care, though, about the jaw-dropping work of Nicola Formichetti in every single one of her videos. Whether for or against Gaga it is undeniable that her association with the Japanese/Italian stylist and Dazed & Confused creative director is pushing the fashion envelope. Now, we are not sure where the envelope will end up. And, for the moment, we don't care.
The fascinating stub glasses that seem somewhat disturbing as they still steam. Perhaps a cliched metaphor?
Takes the whole concept of trashy chic to a complete, very literal level.
My favourite piece of clothing from the video —the black & white Thierry Mugler outfit.
I would have liked to see Beyonce fight the crazy 88 as Uma did.
I am still trying to understand the reason why this "Let's make a sandwich" bit is a part of the video. But I am really digging the latex dress and the fact that there's visual evidence of Gaga ingesting food.
Worst fringe and best eye-shadow.
One of the many Castelbajac from the video. Strikingly beautiful.

Friday, December 26

First of, Happy Christmas, Chrismukkah and Boxing Day everyone! Hope you're all having fun playing with your toy planes, Barbie dolls and Manolos.
On this lazy and happy day I have decided to post a little about everything and nothing. I figured there is nothing better than some entertaining to kill some free time and forget about stomachaches.

With too much of this free time on my hands I started to have a look at the Pre-Fall 2009 collections even though I had promised myself (yet again) I would not. The traditional disappointment was substituted by some kind of odd surprise. Diane Von Furstemberg and Donna Karan provided a certain excitement, de la Renta some yawns, and Versace, Alexander Wang and Cavalli a bunch of smiles. If, like me, you have nothing better to do than filling your brain with a bit of harmless fashion click here.

I realized I rarely post about music, when it is in fact a big part of my life and inspiration. Today I was happy to find the first ever Dead Man's Bones (Ryan Gosling's band) video ever. Gosling (piano and vocals) and his mate Zach Shields (drums) have come up with an indie mixture of gospel and gothic. I do not know if it is good or bad music but it certainly is enjoyable. Go here to watch their video. Also, look for Gosling's "Put me in the car" —a song he recorded ages ago that is part of my list of favourite tunes.
For some more music, I would recommend Britney's Circus, Beyoncé's CD2 Sasha Fierce (plus her performance on the World Music Awards), and any Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and John Mayer.

Paper-wise, I have been trying to think a bit out of the box and avoid buying another version of Vogue. Instead, I bought a seasonal magazine called View of the Times. As far as I know it is Spanish, but I have just discovered it so correct me if I am wrong. It reaches a good common-ground between alternative and mainstream fashion. The layout follows the same logic and it is both affordable and long enough to fill a couple of afternoons or even three when keeping your laptop by your side.
I recently finished reading Everyone Worth Knowing by Lauren Weisberger —the author of The Devil Wears Prada. Change the magazine for a PR company and add some upper-East-side drugs and parties and what you get is a book you cannot let go of your grasp. I am currently reading Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh —I loved the TV show and will like the film about the decadent lives of a British noble family. I usually like having one or two extra books to read in between the main one. They have to be short stories or something that is easy to follow if not read in a while. These two books are The Diamond as big as the Ritz by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Return of the Timewaster Letters by Robin Cooper, both of which I would also recommend so far.

In the fashion department I would encourage all of you Londoners out there not to stop visiting Beyond Retro, Rokit and all those fabulous vintage shops in the surroundings of Brick Lane. If you are looking for some chic relax go to Harvey Nichols and have one of their delicious Mojitos. Being home in Madrid has also provided some new shopping experiences such as the brand-new Marc by Marc Jacobs shop (with wicked accessories for the holidays) and the Oscar de la Renta boutique (a type of fashionable sightseeing). If in Barcelona, pay a visit to el Born with its cool shops full of Isabel Marant, Danielle Alessandrini and Vanesa Bruno.

into the FLARE

To be quite honest, I never thought I would see this happen any time soon. We all know it is just a matter of time until runway trends filter down to celebrity closets. Regardless of this, I could never imagine flare pants would do so this hastily. Some of the most iconic celebrities of the moment have not been able to resist wearing them. Have a look.

Hilary Duff's style has been changing a lot for the last couple of years. She has gone from girly to gipsy to chic independent woman. It's the latter that has provided what I would say is the top "flared look" so far. A black tank top tucked in plus a wide square-buckled belt. An intelligent choice for the very fit body.
Spotted yesterday, Lauren Conrad also in flared trousers. It follows Duff's vision, only this time the top is a bit baggy and white. I am glad Lauren is trying new things and reserving her enviously-massive short dress wardrobe for best-suited occasions. That very long hair adds a bit of a hippy touch to the overall look and a Chanel bag is always a good pick.
Another celeb wearing this trend a lot lately is Vicky Becks. Since her dVb line came out we have seen her several times in this light-blue denim flares. She, too, pulls them off remarkably due to that über-slim body of hers and to her obsession for tight tops. I find those white paint stains all over the denim very cool.

How could she possibly not appear in any post? Ashley Olsen is the Queen of fashion. Contrary to all the rest, Ashley started wearing flares months ago, before Lauren or Nicole even could consider getting a pair. Her trousers were wider from higher up the leg and she combined them with leather peep-toes and black leather biker jacker and an Hermès Birkin bag.
Of course, queen of hippy Nicole Richie could not escape this post either. Ever since Miss Rachel Zoe came her way, and even after leaving her, Nicole has not been the same. She is now a modern chic woman. Sleeve-less white top plus standard denim flares equals effortlessly stylish.
Last, someone I never though I would write about outside a list of disastrous clothing choices. Beyoncé Knowles looked quite good in those very wide kakis paired up with Chanel accessorizing. The whole ensemble is rather flattering on her, which also strikes me as a surprise. I suppose her mum (and stylist) can get it right every once in a while, right?

Tough as it was, I found some flare pants I could even say I like. It is not like they provoke utter disgust in me, but I strongly believe they only suit very few fortunate female bodies. I chose two denim ones from Top Shop, probably one of the best —if not the best— highstreet shops to get flares. The other one, a kaki option from Chloé. This, a chicer version, is quite like Beyoncé's and my personal favourite.

What will you do —join the craze or stick to skinny?

xoxo, soVIPzone

I admit it, I'm obsessed with it and I can't stop watching. Gossip Girl has me trapped like an Armani shop on sale. Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen in fiction) has me under her hot spell and, honestly, I do not want to escape. What else could be expected from the creators of The O.C.? I needed a show that would mix fashion, NYC elite and a bunch of very sexy 20 something-year-olds playing high-school bitches. As it could be assumed, the plot is not the brightest and some of the lines are such clichés, you just want to jump out of the window but even then, it's completely addictive!

This time I come with the most random, yet one of the most enjoyable celeb mixes I've done so far.
I would like to start with Sex and the City's star Sarah Jessica Parker. When I saw that picture of her wearing that yuk thing that cannot even qualify as an outfit the only thing I could think of was WTF?

How can someone who has been dressed by Patricia Field with the most exquisite clothing go this disturbingly wrong? My poor little brain can not take it; only a few weeks ago I was actually starting to like SJP because one of Sex and the City's movie ensembles. Guess I shall stop now.
Last week's Movies Rock gala was the stage for Beyoncé's secret announcement of the new film she'll be in: Alice in Cocaine-land. Take a look at the "wonderful" two gowns she picked up to attend the show. Aren't they moving? Yes, they make you cry.
On the bright side of it all, Cate Blanchett made an appereance to save the week. The promotion of Elizabeth The Golden Age is to thank for all the times my favourite Armani-girl is being spotted lately. God save the Queen!
Time for a little more tackiness. I have never though highly of Christina Aguilera, in fact I would say I quite despise her person. However, seeing how she dressed like a poor version of a mistakenly-pregnant luxury hooker was probably one of the worst experiences of my life. What was she thinking? I would have looked ok without the hideous metalic bolero jacket and the public-girl make-up. Can't say it was unexpcted.

As I usually do, I save the best fot dessert. Nicole Richie showed up at some other random event in LA and delighted us with another of her very clean, simple garment choices. How nice is to watch a pregnant lady dressing with style! The second part of dessert is not a regular to the blog, but someone I have certainly been keeping an eye on for a while because I knew he'd begin to deliver soon. Ryan Gosling was spotted making a quick stop in a shop in LA wearing a beautiful grey blazer, black suit trausers, an Oxford light blue-striped shirt and, most importantly, the most beautiful version of the Ray Ban Way-Farer ever made. Go Ryan!
