This year's VMAs red carpet has been a little on the low side in terms of fashion –these are my favourite looks.

Beyoncé's pregnancy announcement has kind of overshadowed the show itself, which us UK residents will be able to watch on MTV from 8pm. Queen B looked incredibly beautiful in an asymmetric Lanvin dress. I loved how the hair was perfect for it and her huge emerald bracelet cuff was the best way to finish up the look. She later performed in a Dolce & Gabbana tux, also looking stunning!

Katie Holmes, who has been out of best dressed lists for a while, is my second best dressed. It's no secret that an Alaïa dress is the most effortless way of looking sexy and chic. I really liked Katie's hair and I actually thought her shoe choice made the look very interesting!

Zoe Saldana wasn't at her best last night but she still looked better than most attendees in her Barbara Bui dress. I loved that she paired it up with snakeskin wedges. It was a simple and chic summery look.

Britney, who was paid tribute last night, also looked amazing on her own way. She wore a Moschino romper/playsuit with a zig-zag sequin pattern layered with chiffon. It was really mini and pretty see-through, so still quite Britney but more demure than what we're used to. Never mind the shoes!

As you know, I am a big fan of less celebrated international editions of Vogue.
Vogue España has been doing a great job on their covers during the last few months and they've outdone themselves for the August issue! I would have never seen coming a Katie Holmes cover.
I love the fact that they've put her into a lacy dominatrix outfit. She looks like a female version of Peter Marino.
There isn't much of a summer feel to the cover but just like I said with the Vogue Paris one, it somewhat works because the August issue works as an introduction to September, so the line between the s/s and the f/w season is pretty blurry.
This is also Katie's first Vogue cover ever! She's done ELLE, Marie Claire, Another and Glamour and the past but this is a first. I know it's not Anna's or Emmanuelle's cover so it's not as internationally relevant but I love the fact that Vogue España is daring and trying new things. We have seen Kate Moss and SJP on too many covers...

Best dressed of the weekend: Unexpected guests

When I picked the three ladies that would make it into this week's 'Best dressed of the week' I knew that there would be some controversy about two of them. No one will argue how unbelievably chic Kate Moss looked trotting the streets of Paris at the beginning of the weekend. It's hard to find any flaws in her style, especially these days when she's keeping clean, staying out of trouble and getting engaged in Paris. Katie Holmes and Emily Rossum are another story. I choose Holmes' look because, while somewhat conservative, I felt it kind of channeled Jackie O. Which is not surprise considering Katie recently played her for a TV miniseries. I love the combination of the blouse, the light washed jeans and the low cowboy boots. And then, Rossum. I have never liked it as she's always seemed too cheesy for my taste. But she looks charming in that red and burgundy Etro dress very much in line with the 20's orientalism we saw at Louis Vuitton's SS11 show but rather more restrained. Agree?

Oh, Jackie

The word 'icon' is so overused these days it has almost lost all its true meaning. The way I see it, real icons, just like true friends, can be counted with one hand. They can't be dated, as they must inspire throughout time. When I try to think of true icons of the past I often can't mention more than three: Jane Birkin, Grace Kelly and Jackie O. Which is was I was more than thrilled when I found out the History Channel was shooting a miniseries named The Kennedys, starring Katie Holmes as Jackie.

I, then, started thinking of the current trends and designers Jackie would wear if she lived today. Back in the day the choice was more limited —to Chanel, Givenchy and Dior, all of which she would probably still wear today. I think she would have loved this season's trend of muted colours, nudes and pastels. She would be popular for wearing a lot of Chloé and she would have probably been one of the first women to properly embrace Phoebe Philo's collections for Céline. It would have been a more modern Jackie but one people would have remembered throughout time anyway.

vol. III

It seems as if celebrities really want to get this khaki versus pastels face-off going. Katie Holmes, who had fallen off the fashion radar for a while, seems to be getting her mojo back. She was spotted with her hair in a bun and wearing khaki, getting inspiration from Charlotte Ronson's SS10 line (?). This look stands pretty far from the 70's stepford wife-y look she had going on months ago. Personally, I am very much digging this more relaxed, even cool, Katie.

Victoria keeps getting it right —and looking a bit Jackie O, no? She can't seem to decide between khaki and pastels, which seems fair enough when you're a fashionista. This time she was seen in Russia in a beige pair of legging-esque trousers with a black cropped jacket and her favourite Louboutin booties. Following this line, I wonder if we'll see Victoria in any Céline this season. It was one of my favourite collections and I'd love to see her wearing a couple of their pieces.

soVIP decade

A certain Welsh source whose name I can't reveal recently brought to my attention that this December wasn't only the end of 2009 but the end of the first decade of this new century. With this in mind, I started looking back both at soVIPzone's archive at at my immense iPhoto collection. I selected my celebrity fashion highlights of "noughties".

She has been flawlessly elegant for ten whole years thanks to an endless number of Armani gowns and her recent, more fashion-forward choices.

She got high. Then she got clean. Then she dumped Pete. Then she had a sandwich. Now she's just stunning.

Ash and MK became an iconic fashion duo and launched their diverse brands. But they also became individuals. Ashley recruited the slick dressers of the world while Mary-Kate took a more bohemian, yet chic, tangent.

Rachel Zoe went from creating style-clones of herself (see below) to being the first stylist celebrity and creating a clothing line, publishing a book and getting her own reality TV show.

In The O.C. you couldn't help but love Marissa and all the Chanel she wore to high school. And Mischa never disappointed red carpet-wise either, until Ms. Zoe was fired, that is. We enjoyed it while it lasted.

Fortunately, Nicole managed to collect or her Zoe wisdom and reinterpret it into a new style. One that successfully worked. She also parted ways with Paris and had a couple of offsprings that made her put on the few pounds she needed to make the most of her beauty.

Skinny, chubby, orange, white, knickers, drugs, biker jacket, leggings. They all work in many combinations when talking about Lindsay. She too, had her moment of fashion stardom courtesy of Rachel Zoe. But that moment was even shorter than Mischa's.

Both Summer and Rachel took longer than Marissa and Mischa to get interesting fashionably speaking but it was worth the wait. Rachel Bilson slowly turned into a ridiculously cute chic woman that didn't go off the rails.

Tom left the Gucci group. And the past ten years are history.

Anna and Carine went from signatures on the first page of Vogue to iconic fashion celebrities, filling the party section of Style.com and Scott Schuman's shots.

Victoria kept everyone talking about her diverse range of highly calculated everyday outfits. Whether we liked them or not, it was good entertainment.

She also kept us amused with her extravagant travelling ensembles. Let's make special mention of the hats and the black leather in its multiple shapes that are Beckham staples by now.

Katie had a cut and a beautiful mini-me. Contrary to popular annoyance soVIPzone was awestruck.

Kanye was cool for about 10 minutes. Then he opened his mouth.

Brad and Angelina made it official and turned the Jolie-Pitt family household into a United Nations orphanage. Plus, Brad wore a lot of Tom Ford.

Yves passed away and we lost one of the fashion geniuses of the century. Oh, and Stefano looked sharp at his funeral.

We got hooked to the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite. An addiction that is destined to outlive the decade.

Chuck Bass. Girls want him, guys want to be him.

Lauren Conrad took the hoodie off and ditched Laguna for LA. It was all amusing cute blonde locks and manis but the bad scripts and annoyance of the Heidi/Spencer combo made it too much.

We saw a new era of supermodels being born. Claudia and Linda were substituted by Daria and Anja. (And I didn't complain).

It all started with that dress on the left. It was all dashing smiles and spot-on fashion choices from then on.

Rihanna changed her umbrella for some YSL and ended up as a musical cross between a dominatrix and housewive with a quiff.

ramshackle catch-up

In the last two weeks I have been to Barcelona and back, spilled a ridiculous amount of water on my laptop, been laptop-less for a week, read two whole books, got back my laptop and got a job for Luella at London Fashion Week.

During the full one-day lock-in due to snow, this is one of the things I managed to do. Me and one of my mates created this unordinary snowman and tried to hit the other snowmen down in the garden resulting in purple hands.

Well, maybe picture perfect is a bit too much considering Scarlett's hair. Overlooking that fact, the picture is quite fashionably spot-on. There is colours and there is black, long and short, hidden and displayed shoulders, even a tuxedo. But even though they all looked pretty much flawless nothing could outshine the Balmain. The green and the little bit of shiny simply synchronized perfectly with Jennifer Connelly's emerald eyes and onyx hair.

Katie, Katie, Katie. Not only she bloomed into one of my favourite and most fashionable celebrities of the last few years but she cannot seem to get it wrong. Whether it is red carpet soirées or family trips to the beach she knows exactly what to wear and how to pull it off. As of late, she seems quite keen on adding a certain retro look —30's, 50's, 60's.

And now, to bring this randomness salad to an end, a few looks from the Style.com parties section. Red seems to be in wherever I look. I love the Lacoste jumper and I wish I could get my hands on the suit. But of course no one can win to Mr. Pilati, specially is he is wearing black.

After being absent for almost a month I have finally managed to be back. I am happy to say I will now have enough time to devote to soVIPzone, so stick around. While I gather materials and come up ideas for all the juicy posts coming up, have a look at Miu Miu's S/S'09 campaign featuring Katie Holmes. I could not be happier about the choice. Ever since Katie became Mrs. Cruise and started pumping up her style I have been daily amazed. Let's hope this is only the beginning of new fashionable surprises.

a STAR behind the clouds

When spotting a celebrity and scanning their outfit our eyes often skip garments and go straight to the accessories —bag and shoes, that is. Within days some of those über-stared at shoes and bags become the so-called "it" items of the moment and she-admirers start plotting to make themselves possessors of one. Alas, this has not been the case of all the types of Goyard items that have been hanging from starlets' hands for quite a while now.

Goyard is an old French brand. Or rather, one of those old craft houses which preferred to stick to quality and exclusivity even if that meant having a low revenue. Monsieur Goyard started out this brand under his own name around the 1860's and rapidly proclaimed himself as a master craftsman with deep taste and innovative vision. Just like Louis Vuitton luggage and custom-made bags are the signature creation of the French house. Nonetheless, Goyard differences itself from the acclaimed logo-maker only producing those items that are loyal to the house's foundations.

For most of the tasteful fashionistas reading this will probably not be a big discovery but it was only fair to give some credit to those items that sometimes are snatched their attention by trendier shapes and colours. After all, it is the classics that stay faithfully by our side despite changes in fashion.

night, black and beyond

I was desperate for some action! I have been endlessly going through the Spring collections, trying to remember every single ensemble so I am ready in a moment like this. However, I am not. Last night, at last, a proper fashionable event occured in the city where la mode is protagonist for the week. The opening of the new Gucci store was the perfect ocassion for Madonna to hold a benefit gala for her own  charity Raising Malawi. Only her Ladyship can gather such a big number of celebrities. Only I missed it.

Ignoring that February is still young and cold, most of the attendants wore outfits out of the Spring collections. However, night-time avoids being eclipsed by imposing its ever known etiquette: black. Only a few dared to disobbey, and for that I love them.

When Drew Barrimore signed that contract with Gucci jewlery she probably didn't realize how restricted her wardrobe choices were going to be. This summer's Gucci collection is, overall, a bore. After the contract expires, she'll have nausea everytime she spots a yellow garment or a big flower print. Apart from poor Drew, I have to admit I was impressed by all the good choices of the night. All my dearest ladies have apparently very-well understood that simplicity is just so in this season. I did not know haircuts could perform a whole image metamorphosis, but this is certainly the case of umbrella spokesperson Rihanna. Her emerald green was perfect; it suited her skintone and was the adequate night-alternative to black. Also, I loved the make-up and hair. But who could be more chic than expert of chicness Katie de Cruise. I think those shoes were totally out of the equation, but so was Tom and, really, I have no need to look at her feet. Red, clean and simple, there's nothing else to it. My last black-skipper of the night was my darling Gwyneth. Pink and its whole palette are a match for her skin and smooth style. For me, this dress was the mini aftermath of last year's Oscars gown. Any thoughts?

Rihanna was also very right indeed when she opted for Yves Saint Laurent for her Cosmo party. YSL's summer collection is probably my favourite; my outfit today is actually inspired on it — grey jeans, bright blue cotton sweater and black blazer. The only faults I found on Rihanna's overall are that awful military necklace (YSL's season flaw) and the out-of-place sandals. But she is forgiven. Sophia Bush, which is keeping fashion bloggers quite expectant lately, made her final debut last night with a beautiful grey Lanvin? gown. I hope my deeply admired Coco will now include her in her tea parties' list.

Now, to end, remember a few posts back when I busted Rachel Bilson being a copy-cat and wearing Ash Olsen's jacket?
Well, it's happened again. Rachel thought she could get away with it, being in Rome, but oh no! This time, she wore Christian Louboutin's tacked botties. Also, her manière of wearing it, with dark jeans, reminds me of MK's at Sun Dance Festival. What do you think?
