Shoe Porn Friday- Summer Sales Edition
ShoePornFriday22June
Shoe Porn Friday: Summer Sale Edition
Net-a-Porter
The Summer sales started this week in most places but, most importantly, on Net-a-Porter. I've had everyone from close friends to acquaintances and readers asking, emailing and tweeting me about all the items they were going crazy about. Our very own Giulia, of course, was at the top of the list. So I asked her to choose the pair to feature today.
Her email back to me had a link to the pair of shoes on the right and it read "Alaiaaaaaaaaa foreverrrrr" so I went for them. They are indeed Alaïa and they're stunning. The sinuous lines, the colour combination and the studs are asking to be taken on holiday.

The discount is also pretty amazing if you have in mind they were over 1K! You can get them here.

Shoe Porn Friday- Black Friday Edition
Shoepornfridayalaia
BrownsFashion.com
We're in the middle of sample sale season, which is a time between handy and frustrating. One the one hand, we could save time and money buying fabulous Christmas presents for everyone. On the other hand, we rather spend twice that money on things we didn't even know we wanted in the first place.
This week is also the time when all retailers have decided put on a sale in the UK because the gentle winter far hasn't encouraged people to buy winter wear. So today I decided to pick from the selection of shoes at Browns, by far the best place to buy shoes in London.
And who would I choose but Alaïa. There is something about everything Azzedine creates that makes it feel special. And I believe that a woman's wardrobe is never complete without some Alaïa in it. Where better, then, to take advantage of a sale than at Browns to buy this python and suede platform heels.

Best dressed of the weekend- VMAs Edition
VMAs11a
JustJared
This year's VMAs red carpet has been a little on the low side in terms of fashion –these are my favourite looks.
Beyoncé's pregnancy announcement has kind of overshadowed the show itself, which us UK residents will be able to watch on MTV from 8pm. Queen B looked incredibly beautiful in an asymmetric Lanvin dress. I loved how the hair was perfect for it and her huge emerald bracelet cuff was the best way to finish up the look. She later performed in a Dolce & Gabbana tux, also looking stunning!
Katie Holmes, who has been out of best dressed lists for a while, is my second best dressed. It's no secret that an Alaïa dress is the most effortless way of looking sexy and chic. I really liked Katie's hair and I actually thought her shoe choice made the look very interesting!
Zoe Saldana wasn't at her best last night but she still looked better than most attendees in her Barbara Bui dress. I loved that she paired it up with snakeskin wedges. It was a simple and chic summery look.
Britney, who was paid tribute last night, also looked amazing on her own way. She wore a Moschino romper/playsuit with a zig-zag sequin pattern layered with chiffon. It was really mini and pretty see-through, so still quite Britney but more demure than what we're used to. Never mind the shoes!

Filling up Zoe Kravitz’s wardrobezoekravitzwardrobe
Don't you love it when celebrities really make an effort for their film tours? I do. I can't wait to see the new X-Men film for many reasons. For one, I am a big fan of the saga and, well, January Jones might have something to do with many others.
January, however, is not looking her best these days on the red carpet. And being pregnant is not an excuse as Jessica Alba has proven. Thankfully, Zoe Kravitz is there at every premiere to make up for Jones. She has always had a certain fashion flair but I've never taken much notice. Until now.

I am really into everything that she's worn so far. Specially the super modern Alex Wang silver velvet dress. There is something very 90's Calvin Klein about the silhouette but the fabric and the colour make it super interesting and I love the attitude Zoe wears it with.
And I might just be going to the totally obvious but she strikes me as a very Wang girl. In the same way that I think she would look so cool in many of Phillip Lim's and Proenza Schouler's designs. I didn't think she'd risk going full-length, given her shortness, but I am glad she did because one can only wear so many cute mini-skirts or cocktail dresses.
So I am hoping for plenty of looks as successful as the above. It's not every day that a true New Yorker gets to show off around the world.

TITLE4
bucketlistI have to admit I have sometimes been slightly baffled with the names that brands give to some of their bags and that often spread to other designers eventually creating a kind of new category. We had the dufle and the satchel, which still made sense. Even the tote and the shopping bag did. I started getting a little lost with the hobo, which didn't sound very attractive. This summer's hit has to the the bucket bag; very appropriately named as it looks a lot like, well, a bucket only fastened at the top with a drawcord that might come in leather or chain. I love this shape not only because it's usually a good enough size to fit everything in but also because it works as both a boho chic beach and an urban cool bag. My absolute favourite's are Alaïa's, because the leather seems so delicately worked, and Bally's, because it's a slightly retro classic. Alexander Wang's is also very very cool but all the studs make it slightly heavier than it should be. Are you a fan of the bucket bag?

1. Azzedine Alaïa @ Matches, 2. Alexander Wang @ Net-a-Porter, 3. Bally @ Net-a-Porter,
4. Chloé @ Net-a-Porter, 5. Diane Von Furstemberg @ Net-a-Porter, 6. Stella McCartney @ Net-a-Porter.

When the gods descend

Right, so this is where I eat my words. I have spoken too much too soon regarding Cannes. Yes, Cate Blanchett looked alluring in McQueen; yes, Michelle Williams looked fantastic with in her silver mini-dress. But I didn't see this coming. Last Thursday, Tom Ford, Carine Roitfeld and her two very stylish offsprings (and with Giovanna Battaglia clinging to Vladimir's arm) made THE appearance at the amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS 2010 benefit gala in Cannes. I honestly have no words to describe this. Seeing Carine in Alaïa and posing next to Tom gives me goose pumps and her stare from behind her locks makes my knees shake. Julia totally rocked the event with a Mark Fast that proved she's very much learnt how to be fashion-forward from mummy while Vladimir and Giovanna, more classic but über-cool, both donned Armani.

Friday indulgence

I decided to make this post today not out of laziness but because I must have seen all these videos about ten thousand times in the last week. Sometimes I'm looking for a very precise version of a song or a live one and youtube seems to be the only way to find them (because, let's face it, spotify is a little crap). Also, I love watching old fashion videos for inspiration ad much as I love seeing the current collections in motion. Specially if Phoebe Philo's voice narrates the action.
I have a thing for Opera. I don't know the last thing about it but it completely hypnotises me. I do love "Carmen", very much, but I specially love this version because I know Teresa Berganza since I was very young. She is ever-elegant, ever-glamurous, ever-chic. And NO ONE sings Habanera like her.

Should I even explain myself? Anyone that comes around soVIPzone often enough knows about my obsession with Phoebe Philo and Céline. She is an utter genius as well as ridiculously beautiful and super chic. And Céline FW10 was the top.

If you live in London or can get down here easily, don't miss Hair. I have seen it three times, which is a little over-the-top but I love the experience. The cast is very good as they come all the way from Broadway, specially the guys playing Berger and Claude. You leave the show with this incredible energy which seems imported right from the 60's.

This video is hilarious. I cannot think of better vintage fashion moments than this one of Azzedine Alaïa and Grace Jones.

Now, this kid blew my mind. Some people have had the unkindness of calling him a new Justin Bieber but they are only similar in the hairstyle. Greyson Chance sings Lady Gaga's Paparazzi with the most incredibly powerful voice, and he makes a hell of a version too. Plus, the faces of amazement of the girls in the crowd at the back are priceless.

And this is my wardrobe in motion. Dries Van Noten's SS10 collection for men is a series of perfect piece after perfect piece that would make my wardrobe complete. The setting is stunning and the music is a pretty brilliant contrast with the clothes.

Which video you can't stop watching?
I'm off.

never beat the Law(s)

Everywhere you read today, the news about Sienna Miller wearing her old wedding ring again are there. It seems the former British style iconic couple is back together for good. And to celebrate it they have gifted us with these pictures of their very stylish selves shopping around L.A. This time, though, Jude Law can feel as an equal to Sienna in terms of chicness. Red carpet events, roll on.

I couldn't find out exactly where are Sienna's wedges from but they go in a very Alaïa direction, no? I like the fact that she is always very casual about everything she wears while Jude would wear a suit anywhere, anytime. He wore it with cuffed trousers and one of his want-to-show-off-my-chest-hair tees and a cool pair of Havaianas (my personal favourite for the summer).

soVIP 3rd birthday

Such day as today, three years ago, I made my first post on soVIPzone. It feels like an age ago when I first wrote about Anna Wintour and the Oscars and accompanied the text with rather poorly edited images. A lot has changed since then —a new layout, more diversity in content and, most importantly, my new contributor and friend Giulia. And so, to celebrate my three years as a blogger I am giving you, the people who keep visiting and supporting soVIPzone, a look inside our rooms and wardrobes. Our very own fashion shrines where inspiration comes and goes and where all that you read here is written.

My room in Bermondsey —you can see Tower Bridge and the Gherkin from my bedroom window— is still a long way from being finished (please don't judge my shoe disorganisation) but everything from my inspiration wall to the order of my blazers and my trousers follow very strict arrangements. Also, I took a picture of my favourite daily shoes (clockwise from the grey suede ones: Cos, Lanvin, Acne, Cos, All Saints and Zara) and of my massive collection of blazers that takes up half of my wardrobe (each hanger has at least two and has anything from H&M and Zara to Hugo Boss and vintage pieces).

Giulia's room in Marylebone is the perfect space to dress up —high ceilings and plenty of white space. It gives her select assortment of statement jewellery an understated touch while it makes her jumbo Chanel, her Miu Miu array and her vintage Alaïa totally pop out even just on their hangers. Contrary to me, her shoes are perfectly organised in boxes —where you'll find anything from Zara and Stella McCartney to Louboutins and Dolce & Gabbana. It's her home-made portion of Heaven!

Thanks once more for keep checking back, leaving your comments and, generally, showing some love.
All the best,

Iñaki & Giulia x
