Julia Restoin-Roitfeld covers (pregnant) the new i-D
TFS
If you follow my magazine cover posts on Know Wear you will know by now that I am no i-D fan. They always tend to have fairly entertaining covers but the content is usually all over the place and pretty much unreadable. However, every so often they do come up with absolutely genius covers.
Such is the case of the SS12 issue, which features Julia Restoin-Roitfeld pregnant (I believe she is about to pop) and looking stunning in beautiful lingerie styled by maman Carine Roitfeld and shot by Mario Sorrenti – who is at this point close to the Roitfeld's official portraitist.
The Julia's image follows that of Raf Simons, who also covers the magazine's new issue, shot by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Olivier Rizzo. Both covers are apparently the first two of a series of eight (!!) to be released.

How do you like Julia's cover? Are you a fan of i-D?

Burberry’s summer party at the Serpentine Gallery

Last night Burberry co-hosted the Serpentine Summer Party and brought out the coolest faces in town. If you had a look at the actual full list of the event you would be amazed of the number of models, singers, actors, artists and other celebrities that attended the annual event at Hyde Park.
Burberry also provided the entertainment with live performances by One Night Only, Life in Film, The Crookes and Misty Miller from their 'Burberry Acoustic' initiative. I loved the white box that served as stage. It almost seemed like a massive TV in the middle of the park.
Some of my favourite faces like Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Lily Donaldson rocked some sheer Burberry at the event. Julia looking rock'n'roll as usual and Lily with her sweet and sexy style. I also loved Cara Delevigne in her boho outfit and tough boots and Jourdan Dunn (who is probably the only girl in the world who can look that good in brown) in a silk gown.
Jade Williams is not normally on my radar but I am going to keep an eye on her after this. She also looked fabulous in Burberry. The cut of the dress really suits her, the platform shoes keep it interesting and contemporary and the bag really pops out. Great look!

Burberry Brit opens in Covent GardenBurberryBritstoreopening
Last Thursday night Giulia and I attended the store opening party of the new Burberry Brit store in the heart of Covent Garden. We got there quite late and were so impressed with how packed it was. The crowd looked super cool and we had never seen so many our our favourite Burberry Prorsum biker jackets in the same place. Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Ellie Goulding looked sexy and cool up close, as did Lily Donaldson and the Delevignes, who we didn't bump into.

We didn't expect to have such a brilliant time because store openings are usually so dull but Burberry had live music by 'Life in Film' followed by a DJ set by Tom Guiness. So we just enjoyed a few drinks and the really cool nibbles while we got to see some of our favourite pieces like the red plastic trench from the April Showers collection.

Keeping things at home

There was no way I could avoid posting about this. In fact, there was no way I wouldn't want to post it. Julia Restoin-Roitfeld has worn some of Tom Ford's SS11 incredible clothes for a shoot (accompanied by an interview) for the January issue of V magazine. I personally love the pictures because, even though they clearly haven't been shot by JJR herself, they have that very natural coolness and nouveau-French-chicness she's so famous for and which put her as the face of Tom Ford's black orchid ads in the first place. The interview, on the other hand, is very dry and empty. I will be disappointed if I pick up the actual issue of V and don't find that the good questions have been saved for the paper edition. After all, anyone could ask and respond things like these, right?
JRR What do you think fashion needs more of right now?
TF Spontaneity. Fashion needs to be more fun.
JRR What is your favorite piece from the collection?
TF I love every piece. That is like asking someone which one of their children is their favorite.
JRR Outside fashion, what are you looking forward to this spring?
TF I have to say more fashion. I love what I am doing right now and can’t wait to start the next collection.

quatre-vingt-dix

When I first heard that Vogue Paris was throwing a masquerade ball to celebrate their 90th anniversary I simply thought of a chic party with the best crowd in a decadently glamourous venue and the odd mask. What I didn't know was that it would take place during Paris Fashion Week and that most of its guests would take the theme seriously. Following the inspiration from the magazine's October issue, many models and editors showed up in lace masks paired up with sexy dresses with hints of baroque. Everybody was there and the Vogue Paris team tweeted themselves silly. Tweets like "Emmanuelle Alt et Peter Dundas dansent joue contre joue sur la piste de danse"* or "Emmanuelle Alt danse avec Anja Rubik sur la piste"** made it sound like the party of the century. Or, at least, my party of the century. But nothing, not Carine as a leopard or Julia as a vamp or Olivier Lalanne, were a match for Anna dello Russo. The queen and muse of all things fashion did what she does best: dress up. She wore a custom Pucci white dress (kudos to Peter Dundas) that she accompanied with a long white wig and mask in the same colour. The final touch was an incredible Trojan inspired feathered head piece by Gareth Pugh. Talk about decadent.

When the gods descend

Right, so this is where I eat my words. I have spoken too much too soon regarding Cannes. Yes, Cate Blanchett looked alluring in McQueen; yes, Michelle Williams looked fantastic with in her silver mini-dress. But I didn't see this coming. Last Thursday, Tom Ford, Carine Roitfeld and her two very stylish offsprings (and with Giovanna Battaglia clinging to Vladimir's arm) made THE appearance at the amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS 2010 benefit gala in Cannes. I honestly have no words to describe this. Seeing Carine in Alaïa and posing next to Tom gives me goose pumps and her stare from behind her locks makes my knees shake. Julia totally rocked the event with a Mark Fast that proved she's very much learnt how to be fashion-forward from mummy while Vladimir and Giovanna, more classic but über-cool, both donned Armani.

they read soVIPzone

I'm always glad to be able to help out those in need with some fashion advice. It looks like Kate Bosworth, Anna Wintour and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld have been reading soVIPzone, notebook in hand. Kate took our approval of her all-nude Calvin Klein ensemble as a heads-up to keep wearing neutral colours and looking chic. Anna saw in our wear summer post an opportunity to get a little bit of the holiday she hardly gets. And Julia couldn't but give into my khaki/military/parka obsession and mixed a nude dress with her own version.

Fear not, I'll continue to try and sort out their fashion dilemmas. So keep checking back.

voler pour Hakaan

Sometimes the meaning of a certain act isn't defined by the act itself but for its subject. This was the case of the Roitfelds' flying directly from NYC to London only for the Hakaan show. As an objective fact it could be considered one of many diva moments during fashion week. But looking at the collection it becomes only obvious why Carine and Julia wouldn't miss this show for the world. I can proudly announce that the Hakaan FW10 collection is soVIPzone's LFW favourite so far. Take a look at what we'd love to see on the famous Rédactrice en chef and her beautiful fille.

there's nothing like Paris to clear up your mind

You might not believe it but it's true. I am back to soVIPzone after a summer of utter lack of inspiration. I just came back from a flash 2-day trip to Paris and I have seen the light.
My friend Giulia and I decided to pay a visit to the city of light to track down editors and models alike. And we succeeded.
Our first stop was the Balmain show at the Le Grand Intercontinental Hotel. We walked in as if we were invitation holders and people seemed to buy it. Giulia kept being asked to get photographed for street style blogs and magazines as I stepped aside and watched with a smile on my face. Once the paparazzi fever was over we proceeded inside where, after a little waiting, everyone from Lily Donaldson and Sasha Pivovarova to Scott Schuman and Garance Doré to Kate Lanphear and Anna dello Russo (in a stunning Balenciaga) paraded less than a meter from us. The highlight? Anna Wintour sans shades turning her head to look at US!

The second and last day started with a late arrival at the Dior show at the Jardin de Tuileries. The most crowded with voyeurs due to the magnitude of the brand. Not many spottings occured then.
From there we caught a cab to L'école de Médecine where the Isabel Marant show was going to take place. Virginia Smith and Stefano Tonchi appeared once again but their attendance was overshadowed by Emmanuelle Alt (more beautiful than you can imagine) walking around right next to us and the arrival of Carine and Julia who simply take your breath away.

Stay tuned for new posts, because this time they're coming!

I'm off.
