Prabal Gurung SS12- Ultraviolet sci-fi jellyfish

I've been a big fan of Prabal Gurung ever since Karlie Kloss opened his FW11 show in an asymmetrical red dress. Funnily enough, it was his Resort 2012 collection that made me fall in love with his work.

I was ecstatic to catch the live streaming of his SS12 show. I loved the silk and chiffon mini dresses that reminded me of jellyfish and how they seem fragile but they're really tough creatures. And that was the attitude for the collection. The prints, which Prabal started to master in his FW11 collection, were perfectly symmetrical in the way that a Rorschach test would be if it were painted with violet watercolours. The sci-fi sunglasses seemed almost stuck to the models' faces and added to the tough attitude.
There were a lot of shorts and dropped-waist dresses, which we have been seeing a lot of in New York so far. But Prabal also provided show-stoppers like Karlie's side slit black gown with geometric cut out details covered in chiffon.

I usually don't pay too much attention to beauty but I really noticed it this time. I loved the slicked back hair –a middle part in kept in its place with gel and the rest of the hair flowing at the back– and the makeup –an overall natural look with strong blush and beautiful fuchsia and purple lips.

Collage Sunday, 27.02.11: Versace goes back to Gianni

VersaceFW11I have very seldom posted about Versace on the blog over the last few seasons. Except for the odd red carpet hit it's not a brand that often appeals to me. But every once in a while Donatella rescues some of Gianni's old flavour and manages to create a collection that reminds me of why I loved his brand so much. For fw11 Donatella has done very simple shapes, mostly cocktail dress length and black or white, with bold graphic motifs in purple, yellow and green. These, together with the big gold logo detailing took me back to the Versace of the late 80's and early 90's. I particularly liked the white one-shoulder night number that Abbey Lee rocked on the runway and the incredible bejewelled medusa evening bags, which, I hope, will make a big hit.

I'm off.

friday cuteness

I was happy to wake up this morning to find these two ladies out and about in very well put-together ensembles.
First Rihanna, who leaves her popular umbrella in the winter closet and pulls off one of my favourite pieces of S/S 2008 a —sheer flower-printed Stella McCartney jumpsuit. I have to say I am impressed with Rihanna lately; as much as I don't agree with her style, I admire some of her choices, like that other jumpsuit in purple she wore during Paris Fashion Week. Night called for black and she went for shorts and a cropped tuxedo jacket, dressing it down with a rather low v-necked tee. Is the matching purple lining of the jacket and in the t-shirt intentional?

My other joy of the day is Rachel Bilson. I am totally in love with her and the amazing style she has been walking around for a few months now. This time, she lets us know she, too, can experiment (event if it's not too wildly). First, with a cute short-sleeved shirt with skinny jeans and beautiful leather belt and shoes; secondly, with navy jeans, a printed loose top and purple bag. I am looooving the green Way-Farers!

Thoughts?
