The Best Dressed of the Weekend posts are never better than during the Cannes Film Festival. This weekend has delivered some show-stopping moments.
Natasha Poly turned up (I don't know why but I don't care) looking absolutely stunning in a green leopard print velvet Gucci dress. It was one of my favourite pieces from the last collection and who better to wear it than one of my favourite models? Her earrings and the incredible eye make up added to the aura of awe.
Jada Pinkett Smith and Freida Pinto made my day when I saw them wearing two of my favourite dresses from the latest Atelier Versace collection. I expected to see them at the Oscars but I guess they work better at Cannes where everyone is a bit edgier. Jada was my favourite of the two – the bright orange was a great choice – but I also appreciated the fact that Freida went for something different.
Paz Vega seems to always get it right at Cannes. Last year she looked incredible in an Azzaro jumpsuit and this year she outdid herself in a Giorgio Armani sequinned gown. It was the perfect fit, the perfect length and elegant yet contemporary – simply a winner!

Some people have argued Emmanuelle's styling is too simple. Personally, I find the concept genius to introduce the military trend we have seen millions of times before. Thoughts?

G spot

I feel all I do these days is post about celebrities in designer clothes. I suppose it's nice to look at the pictures but I never intended to be so celebrity-centered. The problem is there isn't that much catching my attention at the moment and all I get are emails about (mostly) uninteresting stuff, so I turn to parties and red-carpet events instead. However, this post is a bit more justified. Two days ago, Givenchy hosted the closing of Marina Abramovic's groundbreaking piece of art 'The Artist is Present' at the MOMA. I would attempt to describe it but I think this video gives you the gist of it better that I could do it with words.

Back to the event. Riccardo Tisci acted, of course, as Givenchy's host for the event and gathered a couple of my favourite models and a bunch of celebrities appropriately attired in his designs. My favourites? The FW10 pieces, no wonder. Christina Ricci looked pretty amazing in my favourite dress from the collection, as did Liv Tyler, who wore red lipstick like it was done on the catwalk. Mariacarla Boscono looked unbelievable and as edgy as I'd expect in nothing but a skirt and a sheer bra. Natasha Poly was one of the few who wore white and, well, has anyone ever seen her look bad in anything? Exactly.

I loved the fact that the most characteristic faces of the brand always show up at the events so we can see them in action. (Silly, I know). And I wonder if Rachel Zoe got a whole rack of Givenchy gowns flown in from Paris to choose one for Tyler or if it was Tisci who called the shots of who wore what.

A little less stunning were Courtney Love, who actually seemed to have showered for the event and looked slightly pretty in a black Givenchy, and model Joan Smalls, looking über-sexy in a see-through number but lacking that 'something'. And then, of course, we have the ever-stylish Bjork in one of the beautiful golden pleated dresses from Tisci's SS10 collection. I appreciate the fact that she didn't wear anything from her wacko-wardrobe but something that didn't make her look like Gollum wearing a Ferrero Rocher would have been better received.
Which one is your favourite?
I'm off.

Met Gala 2010: The afterparty

As you know, I am addicted to the parties section of Stye.com, so I panicked when I didn't find any pictures of the Met Gala afterparty there. Luckily, I remembered that there is life outside Style.com and found them on the WWD website. And these are no ordinary party pictures, they are all full of First of all, Blake Lively stripped down to a t-shirt (presumably Alex Wang, haha) and a pair of converse! Completely genius, and sexy. Changing for a party isn't actually unprecedented but it kind of is to me since I have never seen graphic evidence before. Then, Matthew Morrison from Glee dancing with Natasha Poly, which was simply genius if you ask me. Although nothing wins over the picture of Sienna in jeans and a tank top looking (allegedly) hammered and Jude's face of love-meets-drunkard-sympathy.

Check out the rest of the pictures from the WWD website here. And have a look at this video below for a bit of the dresses in motion.
I'm off.

PS. Is anyone coining a term such as Jenna for J&S? I feel like we really need it.
