I was so surprised when I woke up this morning and found that ELLE UK had already released their September 2012 newstand cover. I thought it would be at least another two weeks before we saw any September cover from the big titles. But I'm not complaining.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looks super sexy in the cover shot by David Vasiljevic wearing FW12 Dolce & Gabbana. While the concept is quite simple, not very new, I quite like the fact that they've chosen Rosie because she's probably the biggest British model at the moment. I am also hoping that the subscriber's cover will blow my socks off. Who know, they might even have more than one cover star... After all, that's what LOVE magazine does and it seems to work every time.

Kristen Stewart covers the new ELLE UK

This morning I woke up the subscriber's issue of the new ELLE I posted about yesterday.

I have to say that I do like the sub's cover a lot more. It is simple and chic and the background is simply perfect! But I am still not too keen on Kristen's styling, which is odd because I usually really like Anne-Marie Curtis' work. I love the Miu Miu combo chosen for the cover but I don't think it doesn't look that great on Kristen. The shoot inside is nice but disappointingly short and borderline bland.

It is a shame because the front of book is simply brilliant – such a carefully picked selection of items – but the rest of the editorials are not up to standards. Enrique Badulescu shot 3 out of 4 of them and not only the pictures are bad and the poses forced but the post-production has done some appalling things to the colours, saturations and the light.

So it's a 10 for the first half and a generous 3 (out of 10) for the second.

The June issues of ELLE & Harper's Bazaar UK are out!

I thought it would be at least another week until the new covers of British ELLE and Harper's Bazaar were released. The timing is also a bit off because they have both come out today in quite good quality and by their respective houses – no leaks here.

The second I saw Kristen Stewart on the cover of ELLE the first thing I thought was how 'American Vogue' it looks. I like the colours of the cover but the hair? C'mon, she is not 25 yet, she doesn't deserve ageing hair like this! The pose is also a bit awkward but her face does look absolutely beautiful! Hopefully the subscriber's cover will be a stunner.
Cameron Diaz covers Harper's Bazaar for June and she looks amazing in Calvin Klein. It's like she never aged a minute from "There's something about Mary" and she's almost 40! I love the colours and the simplicity of the newstand cover – it's chic and sexy almost in a 90's way, no? The subscriber's cover is also beautiful. I only wish it had been in colour. It's a shame to miss out on Cameron's blue eyes!

Emily Blunt covers the latest ELLE UK

I was a bit annoyed when I woke up this morning to find out the sun had abandoned London after a glorious week. Luckily, after a nice salmon and scrambled eggs breakfast and coming home to find the May issue of ELLE UK I am seeing the day in a different light.

This is my first ever subscriber's cover of ELLE and I am loving it. Emily Blunt, shot by Thomas Schenk, looks great in a minimalist black and white picture wearing a Valentino dress and JPG shoes. Now I'm quite curious to see the newsstand cover, which will probably be in colour.
The editorial inside looks so chic! I have included two of my favourite looks, which you can see clicking on read more below. My favourite shot is of Emily in a sheer Vionnet dress with metallic embroidery and I also loved the double-peplum look that the McQueen jacket and the Hakaan skirt create. And the touch of the Balmain bra is great!

UPDATED: This is the newsstand cover, what do you think? I much prefer the subscriber's one!

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen cover the new ELLE UK

Over the last week or so there has been so much talk on The Fashion Spot and on Twitter about the new covers of ELLE UK. Ever since we all found out that Mary-Kate and ( my wife to-be) Ashley Olsen were covering the April issue people were arguing whether they would each get a newstand cover and a subscribers one too, since they've become quite the 'thing' as they're pretty much the only fashion magazine worth buying in the UK these days.
Lorraine Candy and Jenny Dickinson too to Twitter to let everyone know that indeed both MK and Ash would get their respective newstand cover but the 'subs', as it's known, only featured Ashley. Now, don't take this as a complaint because if it was in my hands Ashley would get every magazine cover every month but wouldn't it have made more sense to have them both on the 'subs' cover?
In any case, even though I still haven't seen the Ashley newstand cover I am loving them both. I love the fact that they're wearing Prada and I can't wait to see the full editorials inside. I must also confess that this issue finally made me go ahead and subscribe to the magazine so I am looking forward to receiving my first 'subs' cover in about a month's time.

Magazine Covers go Gaga

It is that time of the month again when I barely have time to catch up with who is releasing which cover. It's particularly confusing at this time of the year as some magazines publish a December issue and some a December/January issue.

Lady Gaga seems to be the hottest cover star for the first issues of 2012, which doesn't help knowing who is doing what. She was first on the cover of the iconic Visionaire, shot by Inez and Vinoodh. V Spain, the foreign younger sister of Visionaire, decided not only to also have Gaga on their latest cover but also to have her posing next to a larger-than-life copy of the Visionaire cover. Do you see why I'm confused?

ELLE UK has also chosen the Monster Queen (shot by Matt Irwin) as well to front their January issue. This means another two different covers –regular and subscriber's edition– to add to the pile.

And last but not least, Gaga is also the cover and main story on the latest Vanity Fair. This one is probably my favourite. The editorial, shot by Annie Leibovitz, is absolutely stunning and completely different from the odd stuff she usually does for magazines.

For whatever reason I keep forgetting to get my subscription to ELLE UK, which makes this all the more upsetting. Michelle Williams shot by Alexei Hay covers the December issue looking stunning. As usual, I am a lot more into the subscriber's cover. Just when I thought that their choices for cover stars couldn't get any better they pull this off.

Michelle is going to be at the front of more and more magazines as the date of her 'A week with Marilyn' move release approaches. I am really looking forward to watching the film not only because I want to see her portrayal of the famous sex symbol but because from what I gathered from the trailer the style and photography of the movie is simply incredible.

I can't decide whether this is my absolute favourite cover of Michelle this year. It's definitely in the top two but it's hard to compete with her Interview May cover shot by Mikael Jansson. I am interested to see a high-res version of the regular ELLE cover that will hit newstands in about a week and I can't wait to take a look at the editorial inside. The ELLE team have been on fire this year!

I LOVE everything about the October cover of British ELLE!

It was a surprise to see Agyness Deyn on the cover after the disappearance that followed her big success a few years ago. She looks really amazing in black Gucci and I am also loving the hair with the longer fringe.

This cover has also made me decide to subscribe to the magazine. I have been talking endlessly about how much I love their subscriber's covers but I don't actually own any of then, so I'm changing that starting next month. But I have to say this time I like both covers equally.

The sort of 'S' shape pose of the colour cover looks beautiful against the degradé background and I love how they have distributed the text. Everything is perfectly balanced!

I am also excited to read their pieces on Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Joan Smalls as part of their models issue. And I'm happy to see that even though Frida Giannini has guest edited the issue there isn't a clear Gucci style, at least on the covers.

When is this in shops? I can't wait!!

Every month I feel like the new covers come out earlier. As much as I like looking at all of them I'm often too tired by the time they hit the newstands, by which point I will only buy the handful of issues I think are really worth it.

After a few months on the up British Vogue is quickly dipping in terms of cover style. Last month's multiple royal wedding covers were as bland as can be and this month's Alexa cover genuinely looks like you've picked up a magazine a couple years old. Her editorial inside doesn't try anything new in terms of styling and photography and it's just Alexa being Alexa in Alexa clothes with Alexa hair. The only thing that saves the issue is one double-page picture by Patrick Demarchelier and styled by Lucinda Chambers in the "Let's dance" story.

Vogue should really learn from the other British fashion titles. This month's ELLE and Harper's covers are chic and spot-on. And I'm especially keen on ELLE's rotated frame on their subscriber's cover. They keep getting it absolutely right every month and it's making me want to get a subscription.
