My favourite September 2012 covers
Sept12covers
My favourite September 2012 covers
TFS
I have been quite bored and disappointed with most of the September issue covers this year. Knowing that it's the most iconic month of the year, can't magazines actually make an effort?
Thank god for Vogue Italia and Interview! Franca Sozzani and Steven Meisel have, once again, created something completely different to everyone else. I love Carolyn Murphy and I love the vintage feel of the cover but also the idea behind it. I know not everyone gets Franca's work but whether you like it or not she marches to the beat of her own drum.
I was really blown away when I saw the September cover of Interview featuring Emma Stone. It's kind of genius that they went for her after so many people had featured her over the last months. The styling and the photography are something completely different to what they usually do to Emma. I personally really liked the choice of the Chanel neckpiece, the eye makeup and the studded earrings.

Another great cover from Interview Russia! I'm obsessed with some of the international versions of Interview and Vogue at the moment. And I love how they play with their own material and with reprint with the European and American versions. This time they have taken one of the stills from the June/July issue of the original American Interview shot by Mikael Jansson. I actually like this version a lot more than the original and I love what they've done with the colours and the title detail.
Kristen looks super pissed off here but I like it, it's a bit bad ass. The composition actually reminds me a bit of the June 2011 cover of W featuring Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks. There is something so nice about this kind of crop. I just love everything about this cover!

What do you think?

Do you remember that season a couple of years ago when Kate Moss was the face of every single campaign? It was a long time ago before she was clean and married and even more chic.
But she's become a lot pickier recently. Now she only chooses a handful of adverts where she appears every season. The first of them for FW12 is the new Salvatore Ferragamo campaign shot by Mikael Jansson. The beautiful Karmen Pedaru and Sean O'Pry keep her good company in the rich interiors of Barlin's Russian Embassy.
I love seeing Kate featured in more sophisticated, slightly more opulent campaigns instead of her usual minimalistic choices more in line with her personal style.

What do you think of the campaign.

The latest cover of Interview comes as a relief. This magazine and Vogue Paris are my two favourite publications so I like to see what they do regardless of whether it's my taste. However, last month's Lil Wayne cover wasn't my cup of tea at all. In fact, I found it so unpleasant I couldn't even get myself to post about how much I disliked it.
Gratefully, Michelle Williams cover for the May issue will make up for that. The front picture and the editorial inside, by Mikael Jansson, feel very refreshing after some of the very dark main stories from the last 2010 issues. I would still like to see more body shots on the cover but Interview hardly ever do that.
Michelle's story, by novelist Vendela Vida, promises plenty of talk about the shooting of 'Blue Valentine'. It's quite a nice idea to have Ryan Gosling (Williams' co-star on the film) talking about the experience pre-release and then have Michelle talk about it once we've seen it.
I am also excited to read the Olivier Theyskens interview (I wonder who's done it). See the rest of the editorial here. I love the picture of Michelle with the big glasses!
