It is such a relief, after the American and British September covers, to see that at least some people still know what they are doing. Instead of going for an over-the-top cover Emmanuelle Alt has taken the most essential F/W basic – black – and put it in the hands of Mert & Marcus and modelled by Kate Moss, Daria Werbowy and Lara Stone. If this isn't a subtle and chic way of going grand for September I don't know what is.

I am very excited not only to see the 64 pages of the three girls' editorial inside but also to see more of the new artistic direction, which you know I am generally quite fussy about. I gather it will feature "a cleaner, airier design, with remodeled typography and the use of a craft-paper-like brown background — both of which hark back to its look in the Sixties and Seventies.". Sounds pretty good to me. So far I love the fact that all 3 covers are identical and the girls have simply been put in the gap. It makes a really fun gif!

Daria Werbowy looks like a cupcake for the latest Vogue Japan

Pastel colours are most definitely in this season! So much so, in fact, that Vogue Japan is very much channeling delicious sugary pastel cupcakes on their July cover starring Daria Werbowy. The Canadian beauty is wearing a pink Prada skirt embroidered with yellow roses and paired with a Prada top, and the brand's famous jewellery from the SS12 collection.

Vogue Japan hasn't had that many hit covers this season apart from the Bianca Balti in Dolce & Gabbana issue back in March. So I am happy to see that they have recreated something as good as the August 2011 cover with Daphne Groenveld in Miu Miu (of course).

I like this cover so much that I am not even bothered by the heaps of text they've featured in it. It feels less heavy because of the soft font colours that work brilliantly with the cover photo by Inez & Vinoodh.

I am slowly catching up (again) on things after my weekend in Milan so please bear with me! I will try to do a recap of my favourite Golden Globe outfits and Gossip Girl has started again this week and I have to write about the menswear collections I saw in Milan on Fashion, Frankly so I have a lot to do!

I wanted to start with the latest cover of Vogue Paris. I think Emmanuelle has finally found her voice by marrying the artistic with the commercial, which is exactly what Vogue should be. I am super happy to see Daria back on the cover, hers are always my favourites. And I am, of course, so happy that she is head to toe (or shoulders to hips) in Prada SS12, I wouldn't have had it any other way.

I can't make up my mind about the colour font of choice, however. I love the feeling of the cover because it's really tight and cohesive but the bright fuchsia cover might be a little too much. Maybe they should have let the Prada swimsuit speak for itself.

Carine's colourful farewell

It's that time late in the month when pictures from all the new month magazines start filtering into the Fashion Spot before they magazines actually come out. And, of course, this means I have to post about the new Vogue Paris. And I don't only have to do so because the March issue is particularly good (I am in love with Giovanna Battaglia's story) but because this is Carine's last issue as Rédactrice en Chef. After the big controversy of the Tom Ford issue Carine seems to be making up for all the advertisers she left out then by making incredible over-the-top styling on the spring editorials. My favourite, by far, is Pop Égerie, styled by Emmanuelle Alt and shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Not only they have used an obscene amount of Jil Sander (officially my favourite SS11 collection) but also those Prada stoles that are everywhere, a lot of Blumarine and Miu Miu all modelled by Daria Werbowy!. Do you love?

EA's Greatest Hits

As days go by after the announcement of Emmanuelle Alt as the new Rédactrice en chef of French Vogue I think more and more that we can expect great things from her. Vogue Paris is the only version of the fashion bible that I have religiously bought every month for most of my "adult" life. No other excites me as much as it does. There's a question of affinity as well. Their vision and style is the closest to my personal one. And so I have looked back at my little archives to dig out some of my favourite Vogue Paris editorials styled by Emmanuelle. I stopped at three because I have an endless array and you'll guess from it that many of them include Daria Werbowy and are either shot by Inez and Vinoodh or by Mario Sorrenti.

A proper fashion magazine

It's become a bit of a staple for me to monthly post the new Vogue Paris cover and what makes it exciting for me every month. We all have our favourite version of Vogue for different reasons. I love Vogue Paris because it never has too much writing on the cover, because Carine's short editor's letters mix regular, bold and italic fonts and because there are, mostly, models and not celebrities on the cover.
On their August 2010 issue they have chosen the 64 most significant FW10 looks and it's Freja Beha Erichsen's (Shot by David Sims) and Daria Werbowy's job to wear them. My favourite are Daria in Viktor & Rolf and Calvin Klein (which kind of takes me back to the Kate Moss time) and Freja's nymph moment in Chloé, her happy jump in Jil Sander and her rebellious self in Prada.

The worst part is I need to wait until I get back to Spain on Wednesday because otherwise I won't have time to properly get immersed into the issue...

Collage Sunday, 13.06.10

Summer is here (only some days if you live in London) and it's time to make your swimwear picks. I am tired of the good old triangular bikinis, which is why I have tried to give a bit of a contemporary-meets-vintage feel to today's Collage Sunday. Think 70's with a touch of 20's brought to today. Avoid pink and go for orange and choose interesting shapes and prints for your swimsuits. Happy Sunday!
