shades of green

One of my favourite things to do when fashion week ends is to look back at all the collections again but paying special attention to the accessories and details in them. However, there are some that already caught my eye during the first round. This is one of those times. I am not sure about how YSL's transparent frames and green glasses will look on me but I will at least give them a try. Which items are you already coveting?

soVIP bedtime story

Once upon a time there was a girl that was very bitchy and shady but very beautiful. She was very mean to Whitney and soon left to work at Elle. There she was mean to a whole other bunch of people. Then she met a German prince that was anything but Upper East Side. And she changed. And she wore a Zara shirt with amazing bright green DVF shorts. And she took everyone's breath away.

green with a red soul

Last night I watched the first episode of Kell on Earth —which I recommend to anyone that truly loves the fashion industry— where Kelly Cutrone, amongst other things, organises David Delfín's SS10 fashion show at NYFW. This made me realise I have never spoken of David Delfín in soVIPzone. It might be that I take certain Spanish designers for granted because they were always there while I first started to learn about fashion. In any case he is someone to have in mind. He has been taking Spanish fashion forward for the last ten years and his SS10 collection deserves a mention because the colour palette was superb and the shoes (in collaboration with Christian Louboutin) awe-striking.

After having a new look at the collection my brain rapidly started looking for ways for me to get a hold of any of the pieces (I am inquiring about the shoes —not sure if they'll be going into production). Luckily, my birthday coincides with the beginning of the SS10 season and with the Easter break so I migh be flying back from Madrid with a couple of "hospital green" (as coined by Style.com) items in my suitcase. I would particularly die if a pair of green patent leather shoes were among those items.

fly me to the moon

... and let me play among the stars —aka: give me YSL goodies.
There is always a reason of utmost importance why I ban myself certain things. One of which is strolling around Selfridges, Harrods or any place of the sort with my eternally weak wallet. But it is also very easy coming up with rather brilliant excuses to ignore such bans every so often. And one of these occasions took place only a week ago. This time the department store that had the pleasure of my visit was the one famous for its yellow bags —a characteristic that makes me question the expression "to be green with envy". And so I proceeded to the second floor where all things seem so within reach yet so so far from it at a time. However, there is a particular section on that same floor labeled "Exclusive brands". If Prada, Dries Van Noten or Kris Van Assche are not exclusive God knows what they call to most things I wear. Exclusive, then, includes Lanvin, YSL, Burberry Prorsum, McQueen and so on. It was in that precise section where I had my blind (or maybe not so) date with my cyber-crush —the most tastefully crafted YSL biker jacket in green. Despite the mutual attraction the fact that we belong to different worlds was finally too strong and we couldn't consummate our relationship the way we should have. But if I am anything that is unfaithful and fell for a blue one with black neck and the forbidden bag of my best dreams in black leather.
Only time will tell if a 21st century Romeo and Juliet sans final drama will eventually take place.

COLOUR for us

I have lately become aware of the fact that I rarely post about menswear, a bizarre thing considering I am a guy who obviously has to dress and hence be updated about the men's fashion world. Well, I have the intention to post more regularly about the trends and inspiration oriented to men, specially those which influence me the most at the moment. However, I am also aware of the fact that most of the readers (at least those who comment) are girls so I would like to hear some feminine opinions about male fashion; what you like better on us and what you think it's totally wrong.

Summer is always the time for colour but I am not quite the fan this season. I love very settled colours, but mostly in the winter when I can play a lot more with them. This year, I found utterly interesting how designers have introduced the brightest of hues through jeans. This made me question my almost complete elimination of colour in my summer wardrobe and threw me for a little web tour to find some good proposals like these for the season. Well, I have.

Red is quite the boss this season, but it usually is like that. I actually bought some very amazing red jeans from TopMan last year. I am very glad I did. After having a look at most of the male collections, I couldn't keep Gucci out my head; I love the way Frida Giannini has played with red in different garments and materials, mixing it up with a lot of black leather and that black and white pattern you have surely noticed too in the women collection. My other favourite using red is Purificación García, a Spanish designer not very widely known even in her country. However, I often visit her shop either in Madrid or Barcelona and I find very interesting how she plays with colour in a subtle way, making very stylish and urban-chic proposals and including sort of a Spanish preppy touch that I have to confess I'm very fond of.

From Gucci are also other more daring hues of jeans —orange, lime green and yellow. That particular shade of orange has me going crazy wondering whether I should buy something similar if it decided to come my way. My goal for this new season was to keep it very very simple, all very clear colours, loads of plain tees, only changing the outfit including different cuts of trousers, playing with belts, shoes, socks and hats. I wanted to wear all that with my beloved classic blazers —rolled up sleeves— and different kinds of foulards and scarves. As a matter of fact, I became fascinated only this morning when I found this Dries Van Noten scarf which would give life to any ensemble.
