If, like me, you are not one of the lucky ones to get out of London during the Olympics, fear not, there are good things happening here! Today Rag & Bone opens their first European flagship store at 13-14 Sloane Square – that beautiful Victorian corner building on the corner of Sloane Street. And they are bringing it all with them: the women's and men's collections, accessories and denim.
The brand has also released their new FW12 campaign featuring Kate Moss and shot it Kentish Town by Craig McDean so the brand is going mega-British at the moment. They will also be re-showing their SS13 collection at their London store during London Fashion Week.
You can visit Rag & Bone from Mon-Sat 10-8pm, Sun 12-7pm during the Olympics.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen cover Vogue’s Best Dressed

I love the Olsens. In fact, I love them so much I would become a mormon so I could marry both. But you didn't need to know that, right?
I love their style almost as much –or is that part of the reason why I love them in the first place?– so I am thrilled to see them covering the latest special issue of Vogue Best Dressed.
I am loving the little Chantilly lace veils that sort of remind me of that great picture of them from a few years ago for Numéro Tokyo wearing the lacy Maison Michel bunny ears.
My only complaint about this cover is the fact that below their 'dynamic duos' section they've included Kate and Pippa Middleton. Seriously? What does dynamic duo even mean here? People move if they're alive so it's a good thing they're dynamic.

Also this week Net-a-Porter released their latest magazine featuring a special piece about The Row alongside a video where MK and Ashley explain what are the foundations of their brand and describe each other's style. They're just so cute and elegant and cool. Click here to watch the video.

Florence Welch by Craig McDean- The covers that could have been

I feel like some of the big magazines really miss the point with their choice of cover picture. I can tolerate bad choices when the shoots inside are equally as bad but when the editorial is full of stunning pictures it really infuriates me.
This is the case of the October cover of Interview magazine, which is probably my favourite publication ever. They tend to do a lot of really dark close shots that they crop even closer, which is a little repetitive but usually looks beautiful enough to be overlooked. For the latest issue they had Craig McDean shoot Florence Welch styled by Karl Templer. I must say that despite the catastrophic piece of crap that the cover turned out to be I could appreciate their trying to do something new –i.e. not a super close crop.
The shoot inside, however, is a completely different story. They've played a lot with the editing in terms of filters, saturation and contrast and I am in awe. I especially love the black and white shots of Florence and there is something very attractive about the blue one too. That would have made a brilliant cover for this issue!

Amazing covers from unexpected magazines

I have often mentioned in the past how I'm not a big fan of magazines like i-D, Dazed or Another. I don't dislike them equally or for the same reasons but there is something mostly pretentious and often empty about them.

The October issues of Another and Dazed & Confused are a whole other story, though. Riccardo Tisci has guest art-directed the cover shoot for the 20th anniversary of the magazine, which is celebrating over London Fashion Week. I actually got a copy of the magazine and the shoot inside is stunning. The composition references are mostly religious, as it's normal from Tisci. And so it's easy to link the front cover of him with Mariacarla Boscono and Saskia de Brauw as version of "La Pietà" by Michelangelo or "The descent from the Cross" of the Virgin de Guadalupe.
Rachel Weisz covers Another magazine looking very unusual. I love the bold makeup and the yellow Miu Miu coat and the fact that she's holding a little lamb –"Rache's got a little laaaamb", anyone?– is random but, hey, it works! I will, however, not buy this issue because Another's layouts are too messy for my taste.

It's covers like this one that make me love magazines so much. This is probably my favourite cover of W since Stefano Tonchi took over and one of the best ones he's done so far. I wasn't the biggest fan of the last two issues. Even though I really liked the content the covers were messy and I didn't quite see how the cover stars were relevant.
I can't deny the fact that January has a lot to do with it but I love how minimalist and clean these shots by Craig McDean are and how modern and elegant Lori Goldstein's styling is. I love that they've kept the cover headlines to a minimum in at least one cover, my favourite, and that they've done a full body second cover. We don't get to see many of those these days and, quite frankly, I am getting very tired of the waist crop, not to mention Anna's and Alexandra's extreme close-ups.
From what I've read about the content of the issue I already know I will love it back to back. I am excited about the big Design Now feature as much as I am about Silvia Fendi's and I can't wait to see Alexander Wang's apartment!
