Giulia and I were talking the other day about how we had left accessories on the side lately, which is true. So I endeavoured her to find her favourite bags and shoes from the fall/winter 2011 collections from the Saks.com website. We decided to group them in three of the biggest accessory trends this season –70's, colour blocking and sparkle.

Going through the accessory section of the Saks' website is quite an experience. They have over two thousand shoes and over a thousand bags in stock! You can imagine how long it took us to go through both sections to pick our favourites. But it was sort of fun to see all the range that brands have for this season.
I wanted to start with the 70's because it's my personal favourite. I love the rich colour palette combined with the snakeskin and the suede. I love the colour block items to add a pop of colour during the winter when we all tend to wear so many dark colours. It just looks perfect to put a bright purple shoe with a black trouser! The spark is Giulia's favourite, she really likes her glitter! Miu Miu is obviously the master in that department and I must admit I am really into all these dark glitter that seems a perfectly glamourous choice for an evening look.

Dress me, sisters

It's been a while since we last saw Ashley and Mary-Kate making a public appearance. This time they were out for the launch of Textile Elizabeth and James and their sister Elizabeth, whom I already warned you is a new style icon in the making, also made an appearance since she's half of her sisters' inspiration. I liked her outfit a lot. It was very simple but very much in line with the American Indie film circles, so she's at least looking the part. Also, you can see the Olsen touch in her flares. Ash and MK, well, they looked awesome. They both wore E&J trousers from the upcoming FW11 line, which they mixed up with some Balenciaga and The Row respectively. I can't get over Ashley's fox jumper and how super cool she looks in it when paired up with the khaki pants and the Balenciaga shoes...
E&Jparty
I then had a look at what's left of Elizabeth and James over at Net-a-Porter as well as at the brand's SS11 look book. The fact is that everything looks like it could have easily been taken out either Ash or MK's wardrobe. In fact, we have seen Ashley wearing a ruched yellow skirt similar to the dress below before, or Mary-Kate in a rabbit-trimmed blazer and slingback wedges. For those of you trying to get some of the twin's iconic pieces for less this is kind of a no-brainer. Also, I really like their mens line. I can't wait to meet James Olsen. Maybe Ashley wants to just make it a surprise for our wedding...

the week in news: 31.05.10

It feels as if I'm starting to create some kind of weekly section made up of fashion news. I really don't intend to do so but I love giving my take on some of the things going on at the moment.
This week it was announced that Olivier Theyskens is the new creative director for Theory. It makes me happy that he is going to be designing again but I doubt it will be for too long. He did an amazing job at Rochas back in the day and then again, for a shorter time, at Nina Ricci. Unfortunately, he is known for his very exquisite (or expensive) taste, which ultimately ends in his departure from the house. Now, pair this up with a seemingly affordable brand like Theory and you have a bit of an issue. However, if he can tackle that problem, Theory is in for an amazing makeover.

A bit less exciting but equally stylish is the news that the Olsens are launching an eyewear line for Elizabeth & James. I don't know if you are as sunglasses-obsessed as I am but if you are you'll understand how amazing this can be. Ashley and Mary-Kate are two of the people with the best taste in sunglasses and that can only translate into awesome pieces for their line, like the cat-eye ones above.

couleur face-off

Just by glancing at Kate Bosworth one knows she is very much clued in when it comes to trends. Her outfit of soft lines and muted colours paired up with neutral-coloured shoes and bag epitomises the look of the season for SS10. Looking at any shops it seems evident that these colour palette will take over the upcoming season but let's not forget the other significant trend of the season —military khaki. Which one will you be sporting for SS10?
