Keira Knightley covers the latest American Vogue

Keira Knightley covers the latest American Vogue
Vogue.com
A preview of Keira Knightley's latest American Vogue cover came out a few days so I had enough time to make up my mind about it. And I love it!
Styled by Grace Coddington in  mostly couture and shot by Mario Testino, Keira looks amazing in her Chanel lace dress and cuffed silver gloves (very Karl!). The magazine is back to their close crops for cover images but this one really works. It's the mix of the luxurious look and the more casual pose that really make it great.
The story inside, which I hope is longer than what we can see online, is as beautiful as it is simple as most of the shots are just in a studio. It's about the couture pieces on Kiera, who is probably one of the best celebrities in the world to rock any of them.

What do you think of the cover?

Mid-week Fashion Hits

I normally stop myself posting about celebrity looks during the week because I feel like Monday's BDOTW post is enough for 7 days. But this time around I just couldn't resist myself.
Kristen Stewart usually looks awkward when she dresses up for red carpet events, however that seems to change when the designer she is wearing is Balmain. I guess the house has the perfect dose of rock and roll and sex appeal she needs to feel comfortable. I loved her latest Balmain hit this week, albeit the hair.
Keira Knightley, now with a brand new rock on her finger, rocked a Valentino FW12 dress. You know I haven't been too keen on the house for the last few seasons but this look is a knock-out! The embroidery and the colours are stunning and contrast so nicely with the nude chiffon.
Emma Stone is totally having her moment these past weeks. This is one of her better looks so far, courtesy of Elie Saab. I love the high-waisted tux trousers and the plunging neckline of the embroidered top. The gold on the belt adds just the perfect touch of colour. And you can see in the grin in her face this is a hit.

Keira cover face off- Interview Germany vs. Interview US

Keira cover face off: Interview Germany vs. Interview US

I used to find quite odd, even annoying, finding recycled covers or editorials on international editions of magazines. After reading a bit about it and trying to look at the covers with an open mind I actually realised that some of the new versions were a lot better than the originals.
It has happened again. For their May issue cover Interview Germany have borrowed the Mert & Marcus story from April's Interview US. I was a big fan of the original cover – especially of the cheeks – but I didn't love the colours.
I really like what the Germans have done for their cover – the post is a lot more relaxed, the detail of the cigarette and the trench coat with the collar up give it a sort of 'femme noire' vibe. And the layout is unexpected and super colourful, which contrasts with the black and white picture.

Best dressed of the weekend- Venice, Keira & the bob
BDOTW5thsept11
JustJared
I feel spoiled for having the Venice Biennale just before the start of fashion week. It's a good way to get ready for what's to come.

However, not all of the best dressed women of the weekend were in Venice these days. Sarah Jessica Parker was in London to promote "I don't know how she does it" in a stunning printed Prabal Gurung from the Resort 2012 collection. I am loving her choices for this press tour and I can't get over how incredible her hair looks. If you saw her on Jonathan Ross on Saturday night you will know what I mean. Carrie who?
The clear winner in terms of style is Keira Knightley. Her Mary Katrantzou number for the Venice arrival and her Valentino Couture for the premiere were the most perfect choices. Once again it was the hair that did it for me. The sort of Victoria Beckham bob made her look even more chic and accentuated her signature pout.
Gwyneth Paltrow keeps wearing the same colours but at least she's trying new shapes like the much-less-body-con-than-usual of this Prada gown.
Kate Bosworth wasn't in Venice either but she dressed like she was. Her short black Valentino was perfect for her –I loved the bow at the front.

TITLE7
It's on rare occasions that fashion films, that new genre of movie-making, which now rolls off our tongues actually produces good videos. Dior's are probably the worst films I have seen in my life and most of the rest of them out there (forgive me for not even trying to remember) are, quite frankly, a bit of a joke. The closest thing to quality we have seen in this field would probably be Karl Lagerfeld's "Remember Now", which succeeded more due to his excellent aesthetic rather than to his story-telling skills. His latest work, however, is more in the line with his cringe-ful commercial for Hogan. Keira Knightley stars in the new Coco Mademoiselle ad and, even though she looks stunning and there is something so likeable about creamy Chanel suede, the film makes absolutely no sense. I can't possibly imagine how anyone will be able to edit it into a TV version but I am positive 30 seconds of it will be more pleasant than the over 3 of the original version. Such a shame, Keira's first advert was so perfect!

Keira finds Valentino's lost mojo

It turns out I did find the time to make a second post today! Regardless of what little time I had to blog in this busy say I couldn't ignore this exceptional fashion moment.
Ever since Valentino Garavani stopped designing for his namesake brand the Italian staple house utterly lost the focus that it had acquired through decades and took a different turn, which, at the moment, seemed rather non-directional and unattached to Garavani's previous work. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli took their time to find a new, more modern path for the brand to have a future in. Their latest SS11 collection felt as if they are finally on the right track. It established some of their usual motifs as signature elements and it made their designs desirable. But fashion is also about who wears it. So far, a great variety of celebrities had worn Valentino but they hadn't found 'la donna Valentino'. I believe they have done so with Keira Knightley. Her edgy and modern yet classic look is as perfect a fit for the current 'Chanel femme' as it can be for the Italian house. And that's why I think that, after the brand's fuzzy last seasons, the Emperor can rest assured his brand has its mojo back.

Keira in Erdem

Looking back at our coverage of fashion week I realised soVIPzone had payed little attention to one of our favourite London shows: Erdem. Once the fashion week momentum is gone it seems hard to find a way to talk about shows that took place weeks ago. So I was happy to find this picture of Keira Knightley walking the red carpet in one of the gowns from FW10 and use it as an excuse to go over the collection once more.

It was nice to find out that Erdem Moralioglu had refocused the brand's vision by refraining from over-embroidering dresses. Instead, we saw a beautiful reinterpretation of romanticism. Full length gowns, high necks and stunning cocktail dresses in anything from flirty A-lines in silk to body-con lace.

Welsh springs

I have occupied my leisure time this Monday evening to cuddle under a blanket in the company of some coffee and chocolate to watch The Edge of Love, set in the 1940's. I was struck by the inspired photography of the more-than-lovely Welsh landscape and, of course, the utterly anglophilic costume design that caused nothing but sheer astonishment in me. The combination of the two made the film an even lovelier experience for me as I share that particular love for Wales and its folk and confess myself an incurable anglophilic. Sienna Miller and Keira Knightley jumped around in light flowery gauze dresses with thick knit jumpers and cardigans and paired them up with knee-length socks and rubber boots. An odd combination, one might think. But, having a closer more considerate look it is undeniable that there is exquisite quirkiness and unexpected comfort. And so, I looked around the net to put together a few more contemporary ensembles I feel make great transition-to-Spring outfits (particularly if you are lucky enough to live in the UK).

SCARIER than halloween

As promised only a day ago and as full proof of soVIPzone's return to regular business I proudly present you with my personally selected list of the most disgusting features of the season.
Every season thousands of new commercials start showing up on TV and on the papers and magazines and it is us who, in the end, have to bear with the fact of having to take one more look at it. Yes, it gets scary, gross and annoying. Have a look at my "favourites".

Let me begin with this unbelievably classy brand that Guess is. Taking that taste is something flying around the air of Guess' corridors, it should not come as a surprise that they managed to take tackiness to a WHOLE new level splashing a black and white picture of a hooker on the new ad for "Guess Gold", the brand's newest perfume. If it smells like the ad it's not good; not by far.
Something I have noticed since I arrived in London is how amazingly popular UGGs are. I never thought this Hollywood-created trend would last for so long in a city this fashion-forward. However, success has not meant anything positive for the brand. UGG's new creations are more appropiate for Skechers. Don't buy them, hopefuly they'll stop when they go to bankruptcy.

Now, once again, i signori Domenico Dolce and Steffano Gabbana have decided to keep going wild, and cheesy. If last season's "Animalia" line devoted to leopard prints wasn't enough, they chose to make it a constant for this Fall's D&G line. Just swell. I name leopard prints the top annoying trend of all times. But, wait, this is not all. Dolce & Gabbana also appears in this list for providing us with the most tasteful collection of adverts including random naked studs. How lovely. (Steven Klein, my prayers are with you. We'll all forget you ever shot this).
Should we talk about lack of originality? Miu Miu surprised me a lot a few seasons back when they started those intense and plastic-coloured ads on magazines, I thought it was quite innovative and interesting. However, when you try to squeeze this sort of invention and make exact-looking commercials for seasons, there's just nothing interesting about it anymore. The same occurs with those shocking Dolce and Gabbana metalic corsets from the Summer collection. They did look as a big statement back then, but reusing a successful item is simply wrong. Sorry.

I feel bad for her, she used to be cute and nice to look at. Not anymore. Keira Knightley and her ludicrous obsession of looking skinnier than Michael Jackson high on kid-candy are at the point where it's not pleasant to stop and stare anymore. First it was the "Coco Mademoiselle" perfume advert for Chanel, where a hat covers the unexistant and bones pretend to be sexy. Then, on October's Vogue UK cover, there she was again; trying to look glamourous in a black gown with silver sequins like a moviestar from the 50's. Guess what? She did not pull it off. There was nothing to fill the dress, bones do not have any expression.

I would have never imagined, even in my wildest dreams —or nightmares—, that this was going to happen. Sasha Pivovarova, my russian baby, is featured in Swarovski's ads for Winter and they are beyond horrid. It is too painful looking at my gorgeous eastern beauty in that hideous clothing and wrong make-up. I'm here for you, hun.

Being a model has to be hard these days, that's for sure. But it means more hard work if you are a Lacoste model. They have been jumping around like crazy for a while; that has to be exhausting. Put on the next outfit, have your hair and makeup done and there, go, jump your butt off honey! Well, gotta make your living, right?
Versace's love for white was never a secret, they create their basic line based on white (like that hideous bag Britney carries everywhere) and mistakes are made, of course. This time, not only the background and the accessories of the ads are white, but all three dresses in it too. Is that supposed to be a statement? That Versace has enough skills as to come up with a whole collection in white and make it work? That is something only Valentino can do!

I love the fact that every season means the appearance of a new "IT" bag and I like even more that designers have to fight —in terms of business— with each other for only one to achieve this. But apparently watching this success from the outside makes you feel the strange urge of run and dive in the pool. Cartier —the old jewelery and watch house— decided to go for it and create a bag. There is actually nothing special nor horrible about it, but it is because of this that it means an insult as "it" bags have to be out there and be desired.
Mr. Michael Kors used to be object of my respect, a person I would refer to as "the American Giorgio Armani" and this is a name I do not dare to use in vain, you know that. But lately Mr. Kors has decided to sort of let go and make others choose his advertisments for every collection even when the latter are not the brightest of his career. This season's paper ads are dumb, like they hired a just-got-out-of-uni publicist. I hate it. And speaking of dumb. Some months ago the italian denim brand Diesel prepared a set of attention-catching commercials with "funny" statements at the bottom. Well, NOT FUNNY! They have been keeping on doing them non-stop now and, yes I want to buy their jeans —that's not new!— but I also feel a very strong desire of stabing myself in the eye.

I have saved the best for the end, as you do with dessert. Two words: Jennifer Hudson. One word: Yuk! I'm not a fan, you know that, but which kind of person would look like a hook-ish Ursula from The Little Mermaid to promote Avon??!!! If that look and that face —and God! that voice and accent— were not enough, she decided to use her beauty and talent to be the face of the most random company ever (with all my respect to Avon). Jenny, Jenny, you sneaky thing!

And now, for the grand finale, give it up for Spanish stars —and now designers?— Penélope and Mónica Cruz!! The Spanish brand Mango has very wise management, get a couple of stars and make them tell everyone they "collaborated" on the designing of the line. The result: uncountable sales! The problem with this is that not only Penélope is annoying to death or that they did not do a thing concerning "their" designs or that the clothes are "blah"; the problem is that wherever you went this fall you would find them in billboards, buses, magazines, newspapers... are milk bottles next?
Anyway, the season's news are pretty much done so we can rest for a little while until Spring kicks in and we'll have to put up with the usual crap.

I'm off.
